Humpday Happenings...
Yes, friends, it's the middle of the week once again, and I believe we may be out of this recent "rut" of scattered showers through the day. We only have to worry about fog out there (in some places). Seems like we were starting each day this week in similar manner.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us partly sunny skies, no rain in the forecast, and temps reaching back up to around the 84 degree mark, and that includes a fair amount of humidity. Yeah, we're gonna need to run the A/C today once again...sorry.
Be thankful you're not digging out from a hurricane or earthquake, and take a moment to offer some prayers to those affected. You'll be glad you did.
Now, what say we all get a nice drink to start the day, as we see what has been going on elsewhere, hmm?
*** First out of the foot locker is our WHO SAID THAT? quote for the week:
"You can't just give someone a creativity injection. You have to create an environment for curiosity and a way to encourage people and get the best out of them."
I think a lot of our society could benefit from such words, because they (like all words) have VALUE.
You can't go shopping and pluck some some creativity off a shelf, and the same applies to imagination...or even courage. It has to be nurtured and grown.
So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the University of Warwick...
*** Next up, is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
SEPTEMBER 20 -
---It's National Punch Day
(the DRINK, and not a pugilistic endeavor...got it?)
---It's National String Cheese Day
(don't know how well that goes with punch)
*** Next, our "king" (Mayor Henry) is kinda like horse crap in a stable these days...all over the place. His latest presser involves some alley and sidewalk upgrades. Here's the story link:
http://wane.com/2017/09/19/city-outlines-sidewalks-alleyways-eyed-for-improvement/
Now (to me), this is only a decade or two late in coming, and it's something that was mentioned by Dawn Ritchie when she worked for the street department in the early 2000s (before she went to the parks department). She had video of various alleys in states of disrepair, and the city admins (at the time) did nothing about it.
The (gravel) alley that WON'T get a rehab.
One thing I find odd, is that the alley just NORTH of ours is getting a rehab...and to be fair, doesn't seem to NEED it as much as ours does, for one simple reason - OUR alley is still gravel
The alley that WILL get the rehab.
The alley north of us is CONCRETE. It just needs the foliage to be cut back (because the hud-rental crowd never lifts a finger to do that sort of stuff).
We need a more solid and permanent surface, to keep ruts from forming due to all the damn traffic we get when the mooks use the alley as a "side-street".
Helluva "fix", isn't it? And bi-yearly.
And for ONCE, Glynn Hines and I are on the same page concerning the alleys.
Takes almost an act of God to get this councilman to do something down here that's worthwhile.
*** Next up, and speaking of our part of town, it looks like we might have ANOTHER government-sponsored renter MOVING.
Good riddance to BAD neighbors (and kids).
And, it appears to be the house across our side street - the one with the 3 holy terrors they call "children".
See...goes to show that prayers are answered.
My only concern, as with anyone who moves OUT of our area these days...will we get someone WORSE moving IN?
That is always a distinct possibility, when you have such a low number of home OWNERS around here.
Crime has been moving south for over a decade, so, it would come as no surprise to have more of the "typical" people moving in...time has proven me right so far.
*** Next up, president Trump goes to the U.N., and manages to poke a lot of people in the eye with his middle finger. Here's the story link:
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/451501/trumps-un-speech-was-success
You have to sift through ALL the libtard media coverage to find a story that tells the TRUTH here.
Good for him. About time we had someone at the United Nations who wasn't afraid to call out all the morons that deserve it, unlike Obummer and his "great worldwide apology tour" from years ago.
Trump called out the Norkos, Iran,Venezuela, and even the U.N. itself. I mean the USA has been paying about 1/4 of the freight for operational aspects concerning the U.N. for a while, and this includes supplying arms and such. We should be getting a lot more bang for OUR buck, right?
*** Next up, how about some HIGH-SPEED TRANSIT to move things along?
Here's the story link:
http://wane.com/2017/09/19/fort-wayne-route-a-worldwide-finalist-for-pod-transportation-system/
Now this IS intriguing (for many reasons), and although this seems wonderfully futuristic, I can prove to all of you that (to me), it's nothing new at all, at least when it comes to science fiction.
Here's the lowdown...back in 1973, none other than Gene Roddenberry created a TV movie (pilot) he called GENESIS II, starring Alex Cord.
It takes place in the future, where a NASA scientist is found cryogenically suspended from centuries before (think Rip Van Winkle) and awakes in a post-apocalyptic world.
The means of getting around the globe is something called a SUBSHUTTLE, which is a series of underground tunnels that allow a transport vehicle to literally "fly" along these tubes at hyper velocities...
And this concept had to have been borrowed from the 1956 movie Forbidden Planet.
(remember the Krell transport tubes?)
Guess something old has become something "new" with this Hyperloop One project.
It IS being fronted by Elon Musk (the Tesla electric car...maybe he was a "fan" of Gene?
My main concern would be the ABOVE-ground aspect to this project...plenty of room for something to go wrong, but it IS easier to access the system above ground, rather than a subterranean venue.
Still, any accident at supersonic speeds is nothing to sneeze at, is it?
We'll have to follow this and see what shakes out.
*** Next, time to stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
Our kids took some time yesterday for some grooming...well, at least Violet was looking after Gallifrey, who seemed to enjoy the experience.
What better way to end some chasing about the house than with that, right?
I think she's grooming him, and not "tasting" him...lol.
As for the remainder of the day...eats, naps, and being sinfully cute.
*** Next up, let's check in with "Midnight and Company"...
Taking time to dry out after the rain.
It was another rainy day to get fed, but we managed it well enough. The patio table provides some shelter from getting wet, at least enough to eat one's meal. As to where they go after that is anyone's guess. I think Midnight stays under a pine tree or near the side of the house, and I think
Nice to be dry for a while.
Whiskers stays under some small shrubs against our garage (there's an overhang that keeps rain away from the garage itself).
Whatever works for them, works for me.
*** Last back to the barracks...Fort Wayne is truly a city of CONTRASTS.
In some ways that can be a good thing. In other ways, it can spell trouble.
We're small enough not to have the SAME afflictions that overburden major cities, and yet, we have enough problems (some for decades) already to put us on the radar for major improvements across the spectrum of humanity.
Societal issues abound, especially on the south side, where the majority of minorities can be found, as if the city WANTED to keep any "problem people" in one specific area.
And how's that working out for those of us down here that have the deal with this crap daily, and with little to no real retail or service to give us that "quality-of-life" our king mentions?
We've lost businesses, good neighbors, and the safety of being able to walk, and shop, and live normally down here, while other parts of the city thrive at the pleasure of our mayor and his cronies. We're certainly NOT some "point-of-destination", are we, your highness?
Even the government-sponsored welfare cheats are looking elsewhere to live, and are getting what THEY want, which only spreads the bane of society all over, making even more nice parts of the city worse in their wake.
You don't have to go far to see the differences between people who GIVE A DAMN...and those who simply DO NOT.
I know whenever I feel a need to be with REAL people, I go someplace ELSE, and I don't think I should have to.
But unless and until the attitudes of (some) people CHANGE, it will be the same old story.
Personal accountability and responsibility has to rule the day, otherwise, more of the city will fall into a social abyss.
And that can become a helluva climb to get oneself out of it.
Contrasts can be a good thing...just not so much in this case. Better to everyone to work together for the betterment of all.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

String cheese goes with anything, trust me...!

Loved what I read about the speech yesterday. Especially his primer on the "faithful" application of socialism. Too bad the responsibles who didn't care for it at the UN didn't use it as a mirror-viewing moment.

My dad always said that if you saw it in a comic book, you'd see it for real ten years later. Up until the 80's that was a pretty good rule of thumb, but since then comic books have pulled away- except from a cgi basis.

Chris:
---LOL - had a feeling you'd take notice of THAT!
---You got THAT one right. A little self-examination under those circumstances would be a humbling experience for a LOT of them at the U.N.
---There was a time when we had MORE life imitating art...seems the shoe has been put on the other foot with art (now) imitating life, sad to say.

Thanks for stopping by to comment.

Stay safe (and keep cool) up there, brother.
