Tuesday Tidbits...
Okay, yesterday felt more like autumn...finally.
And, it was nice to not have everything damp outside.
The balance of the week will have rising temperatures (but nothing approaching the 80 degree mark, thankfully). I think I've had my share of "summer fun", such as it was.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us mostly sunny skies, temps reaching to about 67 degrees and some windy conditions early on...not too shabby a day.
So, let's take a minute to get ourselves a nice cup of coffee...or tea...or hot chocolate to chase the sleepies away, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the keyboard is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
OCTOBER 17 -
---It's Black Poetry Day
(what? They're making this in COLORS now? Save it for February)
---It's National Edge Day
(and here I thought it had something to do with the group U2)
---It's National Mulligan Day
(we all need one once in a while, right?)
---It's National Pasta Day
(not to be confused with national noodle day)
---It's National Pharmacy technician Day
(note: drug dealers are not pharmacy techs in ANY way)
---It's Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity
(well, at least the protests will be quieter than anything the leftards come up with)
*** Next up, since we are at Tuesday, time to once again see all the FWPD calls that we should have heard about, but didn't, because most of the media was busy diverting our attention with nonsensical tripe...

FIREWORKS CALLS - OCT 9 - OCT 15
NONE!
Well that's just A-f*cking-mazing!
=============================
*** Next, more about the shooting that took place at (or near) Foster's Sports Pub.
Here's the story link:
http://wane.com/2017/10/16/one-dead-another-injured-in-shooting-near-fosters/
And this is the "icing on the cake":
http://wane.com/2017/10/16/woman-defends-south-side-neighborhood-after-more-crime/
So, ONE resident in that area thinks Fosters is like CHEERS?
A lot more "user-friendly"
Nope...I won't buy that for a buck.
Sorry, dear...I can't defend a place that has such a "history", as was mentioned in the story:
Incident reports over the last five years are nearing 300 calls, ranging from fights to stabbings and shootings.
2013 shows 39 calls related to Foster’s
2014 had the most calls with 69
2015 had 47 calls
2016 had 54 calls
There have been 48 calls this year (as of 8 October and not including Monday’s call.)
Doesn't quite seem to give me that "Norm, Cliff and company" feeling.
I'm sure everybody knows your name (at Foster's) ...but ONLY if that "everyone" happens to be wearing a shield and carrying a service pistol in their FWPD cruiser.
This place fits the criteria as a chronic nuisance property to me.It needs to simply go away.
((Monday’s shooting added to a worsening reputation. “I just hate that this neighborhood gets a bad rap all the time because of a few sets of people who choose to bring garbage to a place that was intended to be a place to socialize and quote on quote fellowship.”))
From November 2012
The neighborhood DESERVES the "rap" it has earned...simple as that, cupcake.
From May 2012
(the word she was looking for was "rep" as in REPUTATION)
Now THIS works for me.
And when I think of FELLOWSHIP, I tend to think more of a CHURCH venue...not a taproom.
(then again, there IS that fellowship of the ring gig in Middle Earth)
This ALSO works for me.
People have GOT to start looking at the PROBLEMS, not defending them...period.
*** Next, I've never been a fan of NETFLIX, and with good reason - cable costs enough as it is!
But maybe this story might give me even more reason to shy away:
http://www.journalgazette.net/business/20171017/netflix-sinking-as-it-grows
Imagine that - with MORE subscribers, Netflix is wallowing in debt.
How the hell does that happen?
((The billions of dollars Netflix has borrowed to pay for exclusive series such as “House of Cards,” ''Stranger Things,” and “The Crown” has helped its service more than triple its global audience the past four years – leaving it with 109 million subscribers through September.))
Ahh, so THAT is the reason. Makes sense, I suppose.
But, to me, I'm not into that kind of thing. I feel like any "fad", it will fade eventually.
*** Next up, we already know HOW distracted drivers are with all the crap in the "infotainment" systems in vehicles, right?
Huh? Wha?
So how's about we ADD to that, in a "Big Brother" kinda way, with this:
http://www.journalgazette.net/business/20171017/toyota-cars-to-read-your-emotions
Cars that can read your EMOTIONS...!?!
Now, while being asleep at the wheel IS a problem (literally as well as figuratively), they already have driver alert systems in many vehicles. Or maybe, people SHOULD NOT DRIVE when that tired (or otherwise impaired)?
Toyota is leading the charge here, but you can bet others will follow (another fad).
Lemme ask the obvious question then:
How is any of this THAT important when you're ALSO trying to develop SELF-DRIVING cars, anyway? Doesn't that tend to take the driver OUT of the equation?
*** Next, and while we're on the subject of cars...Mercedes has a big problem. Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/business/20171017/400000-mercedes-get-recalled
Oops, looks like the German auto maker (Daimler, which owns Mercedes) has issues with self-deploying airbags.
(never had this problem when we DIDN'T HAVE airbags...did we?)
Doesn't Daimler also own Chrysler?
Be interesting to find out if THEIR airbags have similar problems? Just wondering.
*** Next, time to drop on by "Kitten Corner"...
Stretching on the kitchen floor
The kids were busy yesterday, getting into the laundry room closet...to which I ahd to block off the door to keep them out. Why they want to get in there eludes me. Nothing in there but Wifey's shoes and handbags.
C'mere...there's 2 cats outside
Other than that, they were not that ill-behaved, and spent some of the day lounging about (napping) and following me around (gotta watch when I change direction...lol).
*** Next up, let's check in with "Midnight and Company"...
Ever watchful.
Our furry duo spent all day at or near our house (a couple time they cam in through our gate from what appeared to be next door). The cooler weather keeps them close, and that's fine by me.
I don't wanna look up. I'm busy eating.
I will admit they are quite hungry whenever we go outside, and let you know as they meow for their grub.
Other than that, all is fine in our community cat realm.
*** Last back to the mainframe...the way some people think today should scare the hell out of the rest of us.
I've always been of the persuasion that if you're not working to be part of a solution, then you're part of a problem. Case in point, the woman interviewed about Foster's Sports Pub.
I'm sure at some time in the past, that WAS a reputable establishment that catered to a working class of people who DID enjoy the company of like-minded individuals. That's what a neighborhood bar usually was. Past-tense.
I grew up in an area of Philly that had a taproom at every third corner (it seemed). And the fathers of families in these neighborhoods frequented them almost nightly (after work to discuss the day, shoot some darts, or watch a ball game).
That's the way things were, and I never recall any fights breaking out at such places, let alone homicides.
I guess back then, people having a few drinks made them LESS combative, rather than today when people pick fights for NO good reason and will shoot you quick as look at you.
It also says a lot about the "clientele" that frequent these bars today.
Outside the former Sports and Spirits bar
When the neighborhood changes (as many have on the SE side), the culture of that neighborhood changes accordingly, and not always in a manner that many would deem to be societally-appropriate.
When you add illegal drugs into the mix, or sexual improprieties, or other types of lewd behaviors, you'r asking for trouble. Where once you had a nice place to stop and have a cold one with people you knew, you now have a place where you might wind up taking your life in your hands.
Sure the south side of Fort Wayne has a bad reputation, and it's because we no longer have the civility in the neighborhoods. We no longer have businesses where people can go to shop...or relax and have a drink with neighbors.
All we have around here today are places to hang out.
Funny, back in the day, we used to call people who just hung out by another name.
We called them...vagrants.
Something to think about, isn't it?
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Black poetry- does that include the "alternate lyrics" for the Daniel Boone theme?

(That was me being VERRRY bad.)

Mulligan Day- God knows I did, and ta-da, got so far ahead of the sewers I got out at noon!

I have to say, a lot of bars have been getting the "lowlife creep-in" that lady talked about. I don't doubt for a minute it had better days... and, I'll remind you there once was a time that you got more honesty from a bar "fellowship" than some churches. The problem isn't the existence of a bar, it's the downward spiral of the clientele. Society has taken the brakes of on its own spiral, not surprising then that bars get an exaggerated sample of that fall. Like she said, bit by bit the places you can go to be just folks are dwindling as the asshole percentage goes up. The UK is getting this, too, hence the message in the M10 song First Date by Plume Of Feathers. When they run out of bars to run out of business, then it will be the malls and stores... then the libraries and churches... until it isn't safe to be anywhere. (And yes, I wrote all that before I got to your close, lol)

On a side slant to the car thing, Laurie told me Pizza Hut got hacked now. Can you see how this all plays out? "No internet connection is safe- unless you use this official system, accessed through the chip imbedded in your hand..."

A more direct car thing- one of Japan's leading steel makers has admitted to fudging tests and sending substandard metals to customers- including the airplane, locomotive, and automotive industries.... You think you have recalls now? Several customers of Kobe steel are trying to figure out just what they have to recall as we speak...

Chris:
---Don't think so, but I might have to submit a requisition for a huge GOVERNMENT GRANT to investigate it...heh.
---Nah, that was you being VERRRRY Chris!
---Glad you got your mulligan for the day (or is that week?)
---I agree that a while back, there was a lot LESS hypocrisy in some bar than in some pews...oh, yeah.
The clientele spiral is directly attributable to that changing neighborhood thing...you can feel it. Lord knows WE have seen it first-hand over 20 years - not a pretty sight.
We are running out of places to run to, that's for SURE!
---Mark o' the BEAST time...sad to say there will be people missing HANDS after a spell, because you KNOPW the way society travels down that road.
---Kobe Steel has found themselves up to their eye-teeth in the old CRAP TANK, and they aren't getting out of it anytime soon. How far reaching the effects will be...we'll have to keep an ear to the rail for that.

Hey, thanks for swinging by today to comment.

Stay safe (and well0informed) up there, brother.
(and say "hi" to Cliff and Norm for me...lol)
