26 February 2018

Monday Musings...
Before coffee? NEVER!
And the last few days of February ebb away, and with it. most of April's showers (we can hope).
Then, we get to enjoy (?) the winds that like to come in March.
I can hardly wait.
Our Hoosierland weather will bring us mostly sunny (really?) skies, temps rising to around 51 degrees, and the cessation of those nasty winds we had over the weekend...
So, let's get things rolling with a nice hot cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the drying streets is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
FEBRUARY 26 -
---It's National Pistachio Day
(shame they've gotten SO damn expensive nowadays)
---It's National Tell; a Fairy Tale Day
(Wonder if our "king" aka mayor has any LEFT to tell us?
*** Next up, a story about how our prosecutor has gotten some unexpected "support".
Here's the link:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/37579921/former-drug-dealer-partners-with-prosecutor-to-educate-community-about-bringing-cases-to-trial
Roderick Parker is in agreement with Karen Richards, and yes, even I have to agree (somewhat) with her regarding how difficult it can be to bring a case to trial...when people refuse to cooperate with law-enforcement.
It's not television where things are solved ion an hour.
Roderick says that minutes after a killing, the family knows, relatives know and friends know who the killer was, but they don;t come forward.
I tend to believe Rod, because he got his stuff together and knows the streets better than most police.
*** Next, stores are ALREADY getting ready for Sunday Booze Sales. Here's that story:
http://wane.com/2018/02/23/local-liquor-stores-prepping-for-sunday-sales/
You have to understand that this is NOT a mandate, so if Sunday sales are not what is expected, you can bet that some stores simply won't open (good for them). I can see a rise in sales at those convenient stores and groceries who stay open.
And, I wonder how long before thefts and robberies follow in the wake of this really bad idea?
*** Next up, actress Nanette Fabray has died. Here's the story:
http://wane.com/2018/02/24/nanette-fabray-star-of-stage-screen-and-tv-dies-at-97/
And here is her WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanette_Fabray
Sure makes you long for the days when actresses (and actors) were ALSO singers and dancers.
We had a rare crop of talent back then...
*** Next, some folks would rather sell illegal booze (I thought that era had passed LAST century.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20180224/2-accused-of-illegal-booze-sales
Idiocy knows no limit...does it?
*** Next, Michelle Malkin has a great take on the whole "kids leading our nation and dictating policy" and explains WHY it won't work..
Here's that link:
http://michellemalkin.com/2018/02/21/do-not-let-the-children-lead/
This makes a very good case for NOT devolving into something akin to that movie (listed as a "satire") Wild In The Streets.
I'm also wondering why no one (like TCM) ever shows that flick? It's becoming more prophetic than satirical to me.
And that's ONE prophesy I (for one) can certainly do without.
*** Next up, time to stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
When the weather changes, it seems the demeanor of our indoor cats does as well. That means we bring out the laser pointers to tire them out, and divert their attention from running about like the crazy cats they can become.
Sure, there are times of calm...just not as many of them as we'd prefer.
They do (both) get up a head of steam when they take to going from window to window, or set about chasing each other.
That's why having them get tired and take to napping is such a relief.
*** Next, time to check in with "Midnight and Company"...
The furry twosome were close by the house all weekend (with a few brief patrols tossed in).
And the funny part, both of them were for the most part DRY all weekend, too.
I know Midnight has to be cribbing at a neighbor's house.
I hope they don't fix that garage door, or we might not see him for a while.
Yeah, we have ghetto-fleas infesting our area...the TWO-legged variety.
Whiskers is content to have a shelter. I would like to see Midnight do likewise.
Yesterday at dinnertime, we had another visitor - one of the "twins" from across the street.
I had to chase this one away with the squirt bottle.
I don't like to do that, but we've plenty of mouths to feed as it is, plus, we don't want any "bad blood" between cats. The two we have now get along quite well (for not being raised together).
*** Last back to the wind-blown garden...Wifey has got this gig which keeps her out on Sunday night to around  midnight, so when she gets home, and I can stop worrying, we immediately hit the sack.
So, you can understand my amazement when we get a knock on the door around 0100 hrs...
Wifey called it into the FWPD as an intruder, but to our amazement, it WAS the police...
Yes, this was a "WTF???" moment.
Seems they were given  OUR address as the source of "sounds of a child being beaten"...
((record-scratch))
Hey, if you can find a child of mine...lemme know, because I don't HAVE any (that I know of...ditto for Wifey).
I told the officers we have 2 cats...(plus the 2 community ones outside)...that's it.
I heard nothing that loud from anywhere in our immediate area that would give me cause to notify the police, but we DO have our share of baby-mamas, and their kids...it HAS to be one of them that's doing the beating...NOT US.
I would LOVE to know WHO placed that call into police...and have a nice LONG talk with those morons.
If this was a prank...I am NOT amused.
And if it was a real situation (occurring nearby), then learn to get the friggin' ADDRESS RIGHT, you dumbasses.
Because when I don't get enough sleep and in the manner I prefer, I am NOT the most sociable person to deal with. That's something even I don't want to see.
Just another day (or night) in the crotch of Fort Wayne...where police wake you up for a false call, but never seem to arrive fast enough when a loudass takes root nearby with their car stereo.
And that's the ONLY consistency we have down here...INCONSISTENCY,
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Rod P.: So then tell me why I care if justice is EVER done for these people?

I had caught about Nan passing.

Illegal booze: Hennessey. Kinda told the whole story, dinnit?

The reason for not letting kids lead is captured best by Rush- "Young heads full of mush". Too unwise to yet realize that "opportunity to help" is actually "active indoctrination."

I'm guessing your call might have to do with the amazingly crappy 12 y-o driver through your lawn the other night. As many times as the constabulary has talked to you ABOUT problems, they shoulda known better.

Chris:
---I think many times, people tend to confuse justice with CLOSURE. At least that's what I'm seeing a lot of. Lack of education will do that.
If a person was shot while involved with a drug deal (that goes bad) that doesn't dismiss ANY culpability (imho), so any justice for the victim can be easily misplaced. Street "justice" usually takes care of that via social Darwinism.
---It sure did tell the tale.
---I have embraced that phrase, and it wasn't much different when WE were that age either.
But, back in OUR day, we didn't resort to such tactics and (overall) had a better sense of self-policing (morality).
Things have certainly changed.
---Yeah, I would think that with our "history" w/ the FWPD (being more of help than a hindrance, which goes against the "norm" since the area changed for the worse), you WOULD expect otherwise than what woke us up early this morning...

Thanks for stopping by today to comment.

Stay safe (and free from FWPD "wake-up calls") up there, brother.
