16 April 2018

Monday Musings...
Well, we had TWO days of "spring-like" weather (and that worked for me for the time being).
Today, it's back to the cold and damp...all I need now is "The Sound of Silence"...lol.
Yes, you want to take care today outside. Hope you didn't put away those heavy jackets just yet.
Our Hoosierland weather for today has us dealing with cloudy skies, windy conditions, temps only reaching to around 38 degrees, and a chance of SNOW showers (you heard right).
So, let's get a nice large (hot) mug of coffee, tea, or cocoa, as we see what's been going on elsewhere...
*** First out of the maelstrom is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
APRIL 16 -
---It's National Bean Counter Day
(I say give 'em a can of Van Camps and let them work with THAT)
---It's National Eggs Benedict Day
(it's kinda hard to NOT like eggs...pass the bacon)
---It's National Healthcare Decisions Day
(the only decision if how MUCH you're gonna get screwed with the costs)
---It's National Orchid Day
(guess that's when you CAN'T afford the healthcare?)
---It's National Wear Your Pajamas To Work Day
(our "neighbors" wear them everywhere else, but they DON'T work. Go figure)
*** Next, a sad note. Former marine (staff sgt) and actor R. Lee Ermey has passed away from complications connected with pneumonia.
He was 74 years old. Here is his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R._Lee_Ermey
Imagine making it through the 'Nam and then being done in by a bunch of "bugs"...
I really like watching him, and always followed his shows on the History Channel.
His best performance has to be that of Sgt. Hartman in Full Metal Jacket.
But, he did a lot of commercials, guest-starred on quite a few television shows and appeared in magazines as a Glock spokesman.
He's also been featured here opening many of my posts in the past.
And I will miss having him around...
Semper Fi...carry on, "Gunny"
Guess the Pearly Gates got a new watchman. Lord help those wanting free admission!
*** Next up, we notched homicide number 14 for the year (and still going strong, apparently).
Here's the "4-1-1":
http://www.wpta21.com/story/37961854/one-dead-after-sunday-night-shooting-in-fort-wayne
This took place last night around 2030 hrs in the 2800 block of Fruehauf Drive (SE).
Police found one man listed in critical condition from gunshot wounds, but soon after died.
*** Next, two boys were found shot earlier in the day.
Here's that story:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local-news/2018/04/16/1-juvenile-critical-another-serious-after-double-shooting-early-sunday-morning-fort-wayne-police-say/
This took place before 0700 hrs in the 2700 block of Chestnut St. Police found two boys shot inside a house there. One was listed in serious condition, while the other was listed in critical. Not much else is known at this time.
*** Next up, another pot bust in the city.
Here's the story link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20180414/police-tip-leads-to-morning-drug-raid-person-arrested
The raid took place around 0930 hrs Friday morning at a house located at 902 Columbia Ave.
((The occupant, Kwyn D. Harley, 22, was found during a traffic stop with more than $900 cash and was arrested.)).
A 21-year old was also charged with visiting a common nuisance.
Nice to know we have SOME vestige of "retail" in this part of town.
*** Next, a burglary suspect has a standoff with the FWPD.
Guess who wins?
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20180414/WEB/180419906
Yep...another stellar citizen takes on the police on the (where else?) SE side of town. This took place in the 5000 block of Christopher Lane around 2120 hrs.
Lovell Hamlet, 43, was the burglar who initially refused to leave the house, and after several hours (and a flash-bang from the Emergency Services Team) he surrendered to officers. No other suspects were involved and no one was injured.
*** Next up, I hear there is a renovation in store for the monkey exhibit. Here's the link:
http://www.wane.com/news/local-news/fort-wayne-childrens-zoo-renovating-monkey-exhibit/1120630233
Neighborhood kids admire YOUR car.
Now here I was, wondering if EVER the SOUTHEAST part of Fort Wayne  would get a facelift...
And the city provides us with one...
Oh, wait...you mean the ZOO exhibit (and not our surrounding neighborhoods)...ah, well THAT makes a world of difference, doesn't it?
Damn...so much for any gentrification happening down HERE.
But, I'm sure the Fort Wayne Childrens Zoo will do well with the renovation. If they want any ideas, they can always stop down HERE and check things out (bring your gun, just in case).
I think I need a drink after that...
*** Next, and speaking of drinking, comes this story:
http://www.wane.com/news/national-world/when-to-say-when-study-says-limit-alcohol-to-1-drink-a-day/1120359376
So, limiting alcohol consumption can be beneficial to one's health....(roflmao)...REALLY???
Could that be WHY people who don't know when to stop drinking get into all kinds of crap and often cause harm to others (while behind the wheel)?
Could that be why drunks tend to become BELLIGERENT after a few too many?
Wow, we might a Nobel prize awarded to the people who came up with this study...
Do they even have a category for "Overstating the Obvious"?
Franklin called such things to MODERATION...for a REASON!
*** Next up, time to drop by our "Kitten Corner"...
Where's my brother at now?
Our "children" did fairly well over the weekend.
They ate...they played...they slept.
I'm asleep on the window ledge, sis.
Come to think of it, so did I. Not even the rain bothered them.
I like when things have a high level of synchronicity attached to them.
*** Next, time to check in with "Midnight and Company"...
Our furry twosome were a bit busier than usual. The rain didn't keep them away, either. If anything, they both stayed close by all weekend.
They didn't like my gift...
One of them (probably Midnight) chose to give us a "gift" - a dead downey woodpecker, no doubt wrested from a nearby tree).
Found it on the patio, and I admit to being a bit bothered by that. I enjoy watching the birds, but the cats obviously keep them from frequenting our abode (and feeders). I'd "like" to think it died naturally, and the cat found him.
Hey, I didn't do that. I give leg rubs.
Our feeders are out of reach, but we can't control a cat who will climb a tree to get us an offering.
I don't mind not having mice around, but I do miss the birds.
I hope this was a fluke and not something to look forward to weekly.
*** Last back to the barn...again, we see how people behave in certain part of our city, and apparently, all the rallies and prayers are not having the effect that's desired by those involved, are they?
Perhaps the answers people seek in our part of town go unfounded and unanswered because they may not be addressing the proper issues. That's a very distinct possibility (more like a certainty).
Praying to just stop the violence might not be the way to go...and please hear me out on this. I'm NOT telling anyone to STOP their prayers.
I think that prayers directed to change the hearts and minds of those involved in illicit and criminal activities are a better path to reaching a better solution. Go after the people and not the actions.
Face it, as long as evil is in the world, we will have crime and violence. That's a given. The current methodology isn't making the grade, however (imho).
It's almost like doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
Change the way you do things. That will provide that different result you're seeking. Change the way you pray, too.
And it wouldn't hurt to change peoples' priorities, as well.
We see the evidence of misplaced priorities, as does our prison system, our educational system, and our child services system.
There needs to be a major change in the way all of us go through life, and all of that starts from WITHIN. We might even have to back up in order to move forward.
Everyone could stand to do a little better...be a little better.
It just takes a desire to choose a little better.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

"...Van Camps..." lol!

"...How MUCH you're gonna get screwed..." True dat!

Orchids: LOL!

Monkey... LOL! Makes more sense than the ZAoo thing. "Improve the visiblity"? When it's the one thing Stevie Wonder couldn't miss? SMH...

Wait'll they bring you a 13-lined gorund squirrel like ours did to me and my grandma back in the day...

I am learning that sometimes things NOT going the way you prayed is an indication that your prayers have been heard... God seems to like to break ground with a roto-tiller sometimes...

Chris:
---Never met a bean-counter that was worth their weight in very much...and I encountered WAY too many of them in "past lives".
---Yep. Obama's "gift that keeps giving (make that TAKING!)
---Might as well put something OTHER than roses on that coffin.
---I gotta say the ZOO is a good thing when taken in CONTEXT - people should see how WILD ANIMALS BEHAVE...and then keep their kids from doing likewise.
---Oh, good Lord...DON'T give the cats ANY ideas!
---That's a valid point.
When there is a larger picture to focus upon, people might seem it too daunting, and therefore pray for things OTHER than what God is planning.
That's just what I get from all this...like I say, I could be wrong, but it IS God's show (not mine, thank goodness).

Thanks much for dropping by to comment.

Stay safe (and warm and dry) up there, brother.
