Tuesday Tidbits...
Looks like we're in for ANOTHER day of "dreary" here in Ft. Wayne.
Got that nice GREY pall hanging over us, but who knows...we might see the sun for a few minutes (like we did last evening, fleeting as THAT was). That was cause for amazement...heh.
Our Hoosierland weather for today will see us having mostly cloudy skies, but it will be slightly warmer as temps climb to around 84 degrees. And yes, that damnable chance of showers continues. This should have stayed in April (the showers thing), where it belongs.
Now, what say we get a nice refreshing drink to chase the blahs away, as we see what's been going on elsewhere, hmm?
*** First off of the hat rack is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JUNE 12 -
---It's National Call Your Doctor Day
(and what exactly should I call him or her?)
---It's National Jerky Day
(oh, the fun I could have with THIS one)
---It's National Loving Day
(wonder if Momma Fargo knows?)
---It's National Peanut Butter Cookie Day
(haven't had any of these in way too long)
---It's National Red Rose Day
(closest we can come is the PINK ones we have outside)
*** Next up, and because it IS a Tuesday, let's see to all those FWPD calls that went out last week (that we were never told about).

I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ANNOYED AT THESE IDIOTS?
=======================================
*** Next, it seems some near NE neighborhoods have some concerns (and deservedly so). Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20180612/slocum-proposal-worries-residents
This is the Francis Slocum area (which has some FWPD calls going on there, yet not to the extent that say Pettit-Rudisill does (where we reside). But these neighbors are pushing back against some proposed "low-income" housing.
And many came and spoke out at a recent meeting downtown.
((Most had to do with fears over the caliber of people who might rent an affordable housing apartment.
One by one, residents who live near the proposed complex approached the microphone and expressed fears that the development would bring crime to the neighborhood and drive down property values. (yes, it does...the woman is right)

It will come.
“We know that with low income comes drugs, and we know that with low income comes violence,” resident Grace Beltz said.
(again, a spot on call.)
“Are we going to have a bunch of felons coming into our neighborhood,” Busche asked. “How do we protect what we as a community have and are obviously very proud of? How do we make sure it's not crappy people coming in, people who are on probation or on parole?”
“Crime knows no address. It's all about how the property is managed", said a representative from New Generation Management.)) (there are caveats attached to that , believe me)
As will these.
Okay then...valid points made by those in opposition. But, who's to say that this management company will run the place in perpetuity? What if they sell the place to another management firm that is less concerned with the clientele?
Or, what if having that housing causes people to SELL their houses and move away, allowing the deadbeat landlords to bring in the riff raff? That's what happens in a LOT of places, and what took place in MY neighborhood.
Maybe crime knows no address, but, it depends on the TYPE of crime that the inhabitants bring. There is a hierarchy (and windows to be broken).
Such a "tight" family...not!
Plus, there are always the "tag-alongs" as I call them. The people who "move in" AFTER one person signs a lease (and then their friends come and stay overnight, then wind up a semi-permanent resident). You get the idea here.
Almost every place around US does that with gusto. No oversight there.
You folks DON'T need this crap.
I hope the Slocum neighbors can get this proposal dumped, before they lose their neighborhood as we have (apparently) lost ours.
*** Next up, I spoke yesterday about loud noise and music and how it can give (many) adverse effects, both psychological as well as physiological in nature.
Well, there's a new twist to all this. Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/food/20180612/at-restaurants-loud-music-is-cha-ching
Now, who knew that the type (and level) of music in a restaurant could affect your purchasing ability, and in effect, cause you to buy unhealthy foods?
Hell, damn near ANY food can be harmful to some degree, depending on whatever study some libtard pulls out of their ass, so why bother with that? That doesn't bother me. What DOES, is the aspect of having music determine "my purchase".
((“Volume is proven to directly impact heart rate and arousal,” according to the study. And it impacts our decision-making, as well.))
Ahh, so it's the VOLUME we're talking about...just like I said yesterday (and in other past posts).
You mean like the boom cars we can hear SEVERAL BLOCKS AWAY? Or the home stereo we can hear from the NEXT STREET OVER?
THAT kind of volume?
Now, I've been to good sit-down restaurants that had a PIANO PLAYER doing his gig and making dining a wonderful experience.
They called that "dinner music" for a reason.
Then again, I've never felt it conducive to digestion hearing PAINT IT BLACK or ANY form of (c)rap music at a level where I have to speak in a stentorian tone to the person next to me.
This is a good story, and worth a read (feel free to take some notes...there might be a quiz...lol).
*** Next, we had our first real "missed trash pickup" last Thursday, and city council is working to alleviate such things.
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38377580/pickup-problems-council-sets-ultimatum-for-red-river
Granted, we did have alley reconstruction the next block up, but that didn't impact OUR alley one damn bit. Also, the RECYCLE truck came by by early afternoon, so that went fine. It was just the trash pickup that dropped the ball.
After an email to my city contact and a Wifey call into the *311* system, we had our pickup early Saturday morning.
Problem solved as far as I'm concerned,
Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot !
Our neighborhood hasn't had chronic issues with Red River, despite the locals around us placing up to TWENTY TRASH BAGS at the curb a full SIX DAYS prior to pickup...or not even bothering to put their bins out at all (and then bitching to the city they got missed...idiots).
Easy to find squalor around here.
Hell, people around here toss trash all over the streets (and from car windows almost daily), so they wouldn't be bugged by some missed pickups...that's the way THEY roll. It's their way at getting back at "Whitey".
*** Next up, John Rosemond had a good column last week about teen depression and suicide:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/living/2018/06/09/john-rosemond-respect-of-a-lack-of-is-a-big-reason-behind-teen-depression-and-suicide/
I think this speaks for itself in many ways.
Depression does stem from a lack of respect - SELF respect. You feel like you're not worth a damn, and the world would be better off without you. Whether you're right or wrong has NO bearing on YOUR feelings, either. If anything, it becomes more selfish.
John makes this brilliant observation:
((The rise of child and teen depression since the 1960s is the inevitable corollary of a corresponding decline in respect for parents and other adult authority figures – one’s elders in general – that began developing among America’s youth during that very deconstructive decade.))
Yes it DID...and yes it HAS!
That's what happens when liberalism says you shouldn't be a parent, but more of a FRIEND to your children...
Be careful what you sow...you might not like what you reap...kapeesh?
Mr Rosemond truly "gets it".
*** Next, let;s stop by "Kitten Corner"...
Top o' the sofa, Ma...!
Well, our children didn't have authority issues...just "where to nap" issues...LOL.
They were both busy taking the time to select various places they could grab some "Zs".
Well, there was certainly not much going on outside, (unless you like watching rain soak everything).
Oh, now she's just being cute.
You can never say that any day with these two is boring, although when they rub against yoru face while they're shedding can be a real mouthful (of fur)...HA!
*** Next up, time to check back in with "Midnight and Company'...
At least the FOOD is dry.
Our furry twosome were once again trying to dodge the rain, which didn't seem to want to cease.
It was "under the table" time for feeding, and I admit that it does get a bit "crowded" under there.
They stay dry, while I get wet feeding them...
It is dry...and plentiful.
Midnight went off on patrol and missed his lunch, but was back for dinner (and hand-held treats time. In fact they wee both around until it got dark out. He was at the back door, and she was at the patio door. It's nice to be SO well-guarded. Our police could take some notes from these two.
*** Last back to the downspouts...it would seem that noise has more problems attached to it that most people realize.
But, with our distraction quotient well above normalcy, it would also seem that people don't wish to be bothered (until things get too far out of hand). Isn't that always the way?
Worry about fixing the corral gate AFTER the horses are gone...typical (but not very productive).
Noise affects everyone...no one is immune.
(what about deaf people, Bob? They can't hear anything)
Well, they do FEEL loud noise...think about it. If you've ever been to a live fireworks show, when an aerial round goes off, don't you feel a slight "thump" to your chest? Same thing when you attend a reenactment of Civil War actors. A cannon from that era does the same thing.
And you have to admit your BP rises a tad, and you feel a surge of Adrenalin.
Now, think about soldiers in a combat theater...ALL that noise from artillery, bombs, small arms going off all around you.
That's why you use hearing PROTECTION at a firearms range (indoors OR outdoors), people.
How about when a car backfires? That shakes you from your calm, doesn't it?
And rock concert music...Back in the day, I was advised to take ear plugs to a Van Halen concert...if I wanted my ears to NOT ring afterwards.
After attending a couple Nugent concerts, and having ear-ringing for a day, I chose to take the ear plugs. Had a great time, and wasn't shouting to others afterwards.
That was back in =the 70s and early 80s.
Think about WHY police, fire, and ambulance vehicles have such loud SIRENS - to alert you to move the hell out of the way!
Sure, certain types of noise ARE warranted, but only in specific instances.
Everything else that annoys others for no reason is NOT required or needed.
And this is a problem we CAN do something about...if we shut up the noise long enough to hear ourselves think.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

I cannot in good conscience comment on the jerky thing, because my first reaction was definitely NOT where you were going....

Nor shall I linger long at shots fired- the way today has gone, I'm about ready to stand on the corner and yell, "Here! Here I am! Pick me!"

Your comment on the FS development is spot on. Once developers see how hard it is to "manage" riff-raff, they will bail and there you'll be.

I have to call some BS on the restaurant story. People who tend to make unhealthy choices ARE the people who prefer louder eateries. The music don't make 'em, they COME made.

"Volume is proven to impact... arousal..." Tell me, do you get horny when a boom car goes by? Again, it ain't the volume that causes, it's the volume that attracts those already made.

Frankliy, I'd get a little more romantic with a date AT a piano bar, lol!

Garbage: Ah, now the tweet from King Tom about RR makes sense...

Now the depression and respect story I go with 1000%. You can be a parent and a friend- but in the RIGHT doses. And with the right AUTHORITY backing it up.

I go along with you on the concerts. The one I went to last week I swear gave me a partial concussion... I was 10 am the next day before I got 2 coherent thoughts strung together.

HUGELY more bad news from work... Let you in on more when I'm more amenable to discussing in a productive way. Maybe late August? (I do have a vacation week then, lol)...

Chris:
---Oh, so you were NOT going to make a wisecrack about city government shortcomings (as I wanted to do)? Got'cha.
---Knowing these perps down here, they won't target anyone who "wants it"...(trust me).
---That's exactly it. And perhaps this (FS) neighborhood has the wherewithal to KNOW that in advance. We can hope.
---In many cases, you're dead right, but it still makes things rough for we "regular" folks, doesn't it?
(not to mention the spontaneous fights that break out with minority "subjects" for NO reason at all - loud music after-effects?)
---LOL...I'm don't think they mean THAT form of arousal, although with "some", I'm sure when they bump pasties, they got some "fiddycent" going on some stereo at ear-bleeding levels..
---Piano bars were great. And REAL candles on the tables (with affordable pricing for food AND drink)...those were the days, indeed.
---Henry needs to take his (our) money and just RETIRE! He's done his bit for the realm and liberalism (in spades).
---I think you could meld parent as friend (small "f", mind you), and not any "besties" crap.
---I used to go to a LOT of concerts...wish I kept the damn ticket TSUBVS as proof (expletive deleted). And yes, if you want to ENJOY it, get some ear plugs.
(they SHOULD have some at your work)
It won't take away from the music, but WILL diminish the volume..
---MORE bad news from work?
(I don't even want to guess at this point)
Let's just say the prayer lamp (here) is lit.

Thanks much for taking time to drop by and comment.

Stay safe up there, brother.
