Friday Follies...
Well, we made it to another weekend, hopefully none the worse for wear.
And, aside from a MISSED trash pickup (they did get our recycle), we are about as ready as we'll ever be for whatever comes down the pike.
Our Hoosierland weather for today bring su mostly sunny skies, temps reaching into the low 80s and no rain to speak of.
That doesn't sound too bad, does it? Sure beats the wildfires and floods we're reading about.
Now, what say we get this show off to a good start with a nice glass, cup, or mug of Friday Fortitude, as we see what else has (and will be) going on, hmm?
*** First out of the compost pile is our 'What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
AUGUST 3 -
---It's National Georgia Day
(still waiting for Indiana day)
---It's National Grab Some Nuts Day
(Not going to touch THAT one...lol)
---It's National IPA Day
(it's an India beer thing...I'll pass)
---It's National Watermelon Day
(wonder how our "locals" will deal with THIS one...heh)
*** Next up, and since we are finally at week'd end, let's see what we can observe over the following 48 hours...
AUGUST 4 -
---Saturday is Mead Day
(Always wanted to try that)
---It's National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day
(I have got this one SO covered)
---It's National Coast Guard Day
( they don;t look bad for being 228 years old)
---It's National Disc Golf Day
(like frisbees - hate golf)
---It's National Jamaican Party Day
(seriously? in America? Pass!)
---It's National Mustard Day
(make mine the yellow kind)
AUGUST 5 -
---Sunday is American Family Day
(well, considering this IS America...)
---It's National Work Like a Dog Day
(sorry, NOT on a Sunday)
---It's National Friendship Day
(that's more like it...can do)
---It's National Oyster Day
(oyster stew or fried only for me, thank you)
---It's National Sisters Day
(no brothers OR sisters at this house)
---It's National Underwear Day
(NO, we don't want to see yours, Jerkquavious. Pull yer pants up!)
And there you have it...plenty of things to keep you all out of trouble.
Just remember to always observe responsibly.
*** Next, guess what? Another SE side drug bust nets 3 "locals" and more goodies.
Here's the story:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/two-children-in-home-with-drugs-three-arrested/1341040208
The raid took place in the 2600 blk of Priscilla Lane around 2015 hrs Wednesday night. (yep, that in the ghettohood).
Police have described this home as a "known gang house."  Whatta surprise (not really).
Gamble                  Smiley                    Wills
When police searched the home, officers found a Taurus 9mm pistol, 3 pounds of marijuana, a large quantity of ammunition, paraphernalia, and $8,000. There were also two small children in the home. So much for being "poverty-stricken", huh?
Damitrail Gamble, Dasia Smiley and Bobby Wills were taken into custody at the home.
Good, now get those kids into a DECENT home, lose the key for the perps' cells, and call it done.
*** Next up, it appears that Glenbrook Square Mall could have new owners). Here's the story:
http://www.fwbusiness.com/news/latest/businessweekly/article_9e3940fe-a5f2-5896-b526-bd3b4d401bda.html
I always get a bit anxious whenever I read something like this, because it makes me wonder WHY the mall (or any mall) "needs" to be sold, if it's being profitable? And what do we know about the BUYER, anyway?
How reputable have they been with other acquisitions on the past?
This is much like when some "entity" comes along and buys an apartment complex, I have yet to see a new owner be so much better than the last. Our complex back in Columbus was bought out by a  company that had a Section 8 agenda, and the place literally changed overnight.
his is much like when some
It wasn't long before we (future Wifey and I) moved out of there, as the palce became a haven for drug deals and the like.
Made life hell for the home owners living nearby who kept the neighborhood up.
*** Next, time to visit our "Kitten Corner"...
Lookit this...daddy iz OUTSIDE
The kids did pretty good yesterday.
Both Gallifrey and Violet took turns with me, as we enjoyed some "us" time.
Neither of them got into anything they weren't supposed to, and that's a relief.
A wee bit "crowded" up there, isn't it?
There is never anything wrong with a family pet that wants (and gets) the attention it deserves. It;'s their purpose in (our) life.
We all come out winners there.
*** Next up, let'c do our check-in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Where did he go NOW?
Our furry twosome spent a part of the day nearby.
Midnight had to go on patrol, but when he came back, Whiskers went MIA. It's like they were taking turns.
I'm over HERE...see?
Fortunately, were here for all their meals, although he had a rather LATE lunch.
And of course, treats time was shared by both until the sun got low in the sky.
We also had some praying mantis and monarch butterfly action in the back yard.
At one point, I had TWO of them fluttering about.
Almost made me feel like i was at Eagle Marsh...until I heard the "dulcet tones" of some ethnic loud mouth, or screaming child, or boom car drive by, and break the wonderful peace that nature provided. A shame others miss out on this because of their own ignorance.
*** Last back to the trash heap...sometimes, change IS good.
Most other times, it really isn't.
When we changed (evolved) into an industrial nation, that was a good thing.
Everyone profited from all the inventions coming along, and it made work more productive.
Since we have changed from the industrial-based nation to an "information-gathering" nation, I can't really say it's been that good.
Sure, we've managed to save time to some degree, but at what cost? We saw wholesale layoffs from industry for decades (since the late 60s), and the more we started to rely on the power of the computer, the more people lost jobs (that went to other nations).
I can't see this as a win for us, and yet, that's the way things turn out.
I'm not saying we return to the 19th century and go back to THAT level of basics, but we have to stop being SO damn dependent upon devices to do things for us (or in the case of social media...TO us).
What I'm seeing is that today, we are doing less with MORE, and in times past, we did the exact opposite.
We can't lead from the rear, that's for sure, so it's in our best interest as a people, and as a nation, to make sure that ANY change that comes along is for the good, is gradual enough so we properly adapt to it, and certainly NOT just or the sake of change...or to line some company's pockets with our hard-earned dollars and cents.
It just seems better for everyone in the long run.
Do have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Isn't Indiana day in December with Statehood day?

IPA my butt, I have GMs!

That's not nice how you "rib" your neoighbors with Watermelon day... but at least you're not "chicken"...

I tried making mead once long ago... should come with a "don't try this at home, Chris" label...

Disc golf: they have a nice course at Shoaff...

Hee Hee... Jerkquavious...

If something is a "known gang house"... why not shut it down? Sorry if that's me being stupid...

Glenbrook is basically section 8 on foot anyway...

"... A shame others miss out on this because of their own ignorance..." I feel the same way about runners in the woods...

So Wednesday night, they fired my floor boss. Best guess: They thought the current level of chaos wasn't enough. About half the plant wore black in his honor today.

---Great, now you're gonna make me look that up...LOL.
I honestly do not know, not that it will get EITHER of us wealth beyond our imagination
---GMs...hadda feeling you were going in THAT direction.
---Okay, so I can therefore conclude that it did NOT turn out NEAR as well as intended. They professionally bottle that stuff?
(like to try some)
---I read about that. Wonder if the water hazards have SHARKS (like the one in Australia)? I'm serious. saw it on Science Channel.
---See...I can make up ghettofabulous names JUST AS GOOD as they can! Not bad for an old white man, eh?
---So, from that inference, I take it that FTW and "stupid" DO in fact go hand-in-hand. I KNEW it!
---Glenbrook is becoming the "new" (old and gone but not forgotten) Southtown Mall?
WHO KNEW?
---That's a good point...zipping along like that, you DO miss a whole lot of God's beauty.
---And I thought that floor boss had a REAL plan to extricate the company's head from it's ass?
Apparently THAT is not part of the plant's "mission statement"?
Good for those who wore BLACK. Makes a nice statement.
I would love to know what their long range "plan" actually is, besides circle-jerking?

Hey, thanks a lot for taking time to swing on by to comment today.
Have yourselves a good weekend (and hug Scrappy for us).

Stay safe and keep cool up there, brother.
