Well, we DO get a break from the heat today, but the humidity hangs around...because we're getting some RAIN that's supposed to cool things off. We shall see. So far...sunny.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us partly cloudy skies, with rain stopping by sometime around midday, but ending later this afternoon. Temps will rise to about 81 degrees (some cool down), and I'd take the umbrella, because we don't know precisely when the rain is slated to begin or how hard it will be. Amend your driving as well...don't want to become a statistic, right?
Now, let's get that refreshing drink to quench our thirst, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the toy box is our WHO SAID THAT? quote for the week:
"To love our neighbor as ourselves is such a truth for regulating human society, that by that alone one might determine all the cases in social morality."
Seems like the Golden Rule might be a large part of what our nation needs right about now. It does speak a lot to mutual respect.
So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at Wrington, Somerset in England...
*** Next, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
AUGUST 29 -
---It's National Chop Suey Day
(I'll stick with my Lo Mein, thank you)
That's also the only thing going on., folks
*** Next, a very good editorial from the News-Sentinel that addresses the problem with society (and Chicago) quite well.
Here's the link to the article:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/opinion/2018/08/29/news-sentinel-editorial-lack-of-morality-and-respect-at-root-of-chicago-crime-problem/
Now, while I really never liked Rahm Emanuel (for various reasons), I have to give props to whoever wrote the words he spoke when addressing people in his city concerning the overwhelming amount of violence.
His speech writer deserves kudos for sure.
Of course the city's Urban League is taking exception to those words...another case of not wanting to see the forest for the trees.
And yes, that's a BIG part of the problem in most ANY urban area in any city today...make no mistake.
*** Next up, is it any surprise that worldwide gun deaths are on the increase? Here's one way to look at it:
https://www.wane.com/news/national-world/worldwide-gun-deaths-reach-250-000-yearly-us-ranks-high/1401732993
Get that - the dateline is CHICAGO...who knew the irony there?
(and who is MAINLY responsible for ALL those gun deaths in OUR country?)
El Salvador beats the USA handily, as does Puerto Rico, but Singapore has the LOWEST number of gun deaths...
Wonder WHY that is? Maybe it's because they PUNISH law breakers a LOT more harshly than WE do, and for smaller infractions/.
They don't allow their windows to become broken, unlike here in America.
But, you also have to remember that their CULTURE is VERY different.
*** Next, IU health may be redefining what it means to look professional.. Here's that story:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38974715/iu-health-allows-tattoos-in-new-dress-code-policy
Now, back in the very early 1970s, the education system relaxed the DRESS CODE in public schools...and how's those graduation rates been going since?
If you said DOWNWARD, go to the head of the class.
My Dad always said that "If you look like a slob, that's the way people will see you".
(and if people view you as such, that will impact your self-esteem)
So, maybe these "healthcare professionals" are not "slobs" per se, but you get the gist of where he was going with this.
![]() |
The LAST person I want to see in ANY hospital! |
Maybe in a factory environment none of this is ever a problem.
Cover the tatts and lose the colored hair while on the job...it's unprofessional looking.
(and yes, that's just my take on this)
*** Next up, time to stop on by "Kitten Corner"...
Our "kids" did well yesterday, took to lounging about a lot. Can't say I blame them.
Who wants to run around all day , even with the A/C on? (not I)
What they do is find spots to nap, and then after a time, find another spot...and nap some more.
At least they're not getting into stuff while we're sleeping. Haven't found any evidence of it, and that's a good thing.
*** Next, let's check back in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Our furry duo did their "usual"...he was on morning patrol and came back late for lunch, while she spent all day around the patio.
Hand held treats have become interesting of late. We tried a new brand (Luvsome), and Midnight turned his nose up at him. Whiskers loves them
So, now we have a finicky cat who gets free food...LOL.
![]() |
Well, I like the food. |
He is plain spoiled. Actually, both of them are, but she doesn't know it (yet)...lol.
*** Last back to the play room...some folks learn about life by living it; others never learn a thing and meander through life.
That much is fact.
The story (above) about Chicago makes the case for a NEED in certain communities...the need for morality.
Now, apparently, this is something alien to a lot of the liberals out there, but it's just as available to them as it is to those who DO have a sense of morality and practice it, however unpopular it might be in today's society.
To quote from the editorial:
((The left’s claims that crime is caused solely by economic and racial factors is simply not supported by the facts. Crime is the result of individuals making wrong moral choices.))
That's basically it in a nutshell. Tossing money around like it's going out of style doesn't really solve a damn thing, but makes (a few) people look good doing it (in the name of equality, or diversity, or whatever else they want to push down our throats).
After decades of (supposedly) fighting poverty, we're no better along the road to doing away with it than we were before LBJ's "Great Society" BS are we? And how many politicos got rich along the way on the backs of those they were alleged to be helping?

To abrogate that right is to foster this continued waste of resources and time (a precious commodity).
When people start making better choices, they will lift themselves out of poverty, as many have already done.
Truth be told, the actual number of those IN (actual) poverty is much lower than we're being told. Considering that in our country, we have the richest poor people on the planet that should speaks volumes to the facts.
Everyone has a choice...right or wrong...yes or no...
And the sooner people start believing it, and doing for themselves, the better things will turn out for everyone.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Bob, I think your rain shat on us...
The Golden Rule shat on us today... I'll e-mail ya...
I've said all I care to on the Chicago situation... I think they should let everyone who agrees with the Urban League stay there, and just evacuate everyone with common sense, but that's just me.
I saw that shootings headline. I wonder if they counted the PRs in NYC too?
I go along with you on the dress code... but I'd just as soon they ACT professional too. (yep, e-mail.)
M&W... well, we can see how much THEY enjoy the heat...
The editorial quote is dead on... but libs can't buy it because they need "sliding-scale" morality to cope with their own sins...
Chris:
---Hey, that's not MY rain, and yes, it passed NORTH of us..so much for accurate forecasting by those paid to make such predictions...lol.
---Uh oh...that can't be good.
---That's NOT a bad idea. I just wish the Urban Leagues (everywhere) could find the time to extricate their craniums from their alimentary canals. That would save a LOT of hassle.
---Heh...I'd wager not...nor the ones in Florida.
---Good to see I'm not alone w/ the dress code deal. And yes, they need to ACT professional as well.
---I know...having to lug a fur coat around all day can't be fun in the summer!
---Excellent point..."sliding scale" morality...when it's "convenient": to play that card...well said.
I doubt they're not even aware of their sins any longer.
Hey, thanks for stopping by to comment.
Stay safe up there, brother.
