Monday Musings...
It would appear that summer wants to have one last gasp with the way the weather was yesterday.
Hot and humid were the order of the day, and today won't see much change at all.
We did hit 90 degrees on Sunday
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings the hazy, the hot, and the humidity back for another go-around with temps again hitting the low 90s (and with the humidity, it will fell closer to the century mark).
We will have light breezes (like that will help out a lot), and mostly sunny skies.
Maybe the mosquito population will die off? Nah...we're not that lucky.
In any event, let's get that refreshing drink to get things started, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the sauna is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
AUGUST 27 -
---It's National Just Because Day
(why? Just because, right?)
---It's National Pots De Creme Day
(don't worry, it just a custard dish)
*** Next, as things always seem to turn out in the Summit City, we had another shooting on the south aide.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20180826/man-hospitalized-after-shooting
This took place at the Willow Creek (read Crack) Crossing Apts around 0013 hrs Saturday morning.
The building in the 7500 block of Mill Run Rd was the scene where a man was accosted in an apartment complex parking lot and chased into an apartment, where he was shot,
The robber was dressed in all black, wore a mask and had a long gun. Officers found two shell casings in the parking lot, one from a long gun and the other from a handgun, Anthony said, although it is unclear if those shell casings are from the attack. No suspect has been arrested and police are investigating (as is typicl these days,. rather than policing and preventing such things).
*** Next up, we keep the crime spree rolling along with (you guessed it)...another armed robbery on the SE side:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/man-robbed-at-sunoco-gas-station-pump/1395355507
This took place at the Sunoco station located at 1416 Oxford Street around 1130 hrs Saturday morning.
A man was parked at a pump when he was robbed. No arrests have been made.
I won;t say we have an effective police department as much as I will say we have one helluva INVESTIGATIVE department.
*** Next, an update to our very own homicide totals.
The coroner rules two more deaths homicides. Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20180824/WEB/180829830
Chalk up numbers 31 and 32 for the year (yeah, we could break another record aty this rate)
*** Next up, AZ senator John McCain has passed at the age of 81. Here's his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McCain
Now, while I recognize his military service and political longevity, I think the only time I could say I liked him was when he ran against Obama (unsuccessfully). Aside from that, he's not as much a conservative as I would prefer. Neither is Trump for that matter.
Plus, there have been stories that surfaced over the years regarding McCain's service record, and not all of them complimentary.
I suppose having a dad as an ADMIRAL helped quash a lot of the bad press during that time.
As for lying-in-state in D.C.? I think it's a bit much for a SENATOR, but I don't make the rules.
My prayers do go out to his family, nonetheless.
*** Next up, this story paints a dire picture for we baby boomers (and more)
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20180826/seniors-filing-for-bankruptcy-up
Seniors are seeing a higher number of bankruptcies...gee, I wonder WHY that is?
High cost of HEALTH CARE, perhaps? And who's to blame for such things?
Let's not (also) forget that the SSI system has been chronically robber for decades thanks to the politicos on D.C.
Right now, all that's basically in the SSI coffers is a bunch of I.O.U.s that are not coming due for some reason.
And they have the nerve to tell us it may go bankrupt...well, those of us who are collecting social security are heading in the same direction.
Guess misery DOES love company after all.
And a letter to the editor might shed answers as to why this happened . Here's the link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/opinion/letters/20180826/letters-to-the-editor
It's sad when we're cajoled into putting OUR money from OUR work into this "fund", and then are told we might not be able to get OUR money back...that's pretty damn sad.
But. you have to remember, it IS the federal government, and they're more into the whole "Do as we SAY,and not as we DO" deal.
*** Time, to drop o by out "Kitten Corner"...
The kids didn't do badly over the weekend.
They found a yellow-jacket and another small bug that got into the house. Both insects were quickly dispatched.
And then, it was time for  a cuteness break.
*** Next up, let's do our check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Our furry twosome had a decent weekend as well,
While Midnight was late for his lunch, Whiskers was there all the time.
Finding those ever-elusive "napping spots" is always fun to watch.
Sometimes, they can even be had out front...who knew?
After midday, there's nothing but shade there.
But the ones around the patio are the ones with the most shade all day.
*** Last back to the steam bath...I really used to like our neighborhood.
It used to remind me of my grandma's house in NE Philly.
But those were much better times, with a lot better people, in both Philly as well as here.
Yesterday, I caught one of the (many) black kids messing with our mailbox, so I went out and told him to close it and that "there are better things to play with".
I know mine ALL too well.
You have to watch the "posse" of other roaming black children, who are left to their own devices with no parental guidance or care. With situations like this, you can can never give a benefit of a doubt and given them an inch, for they will take a country mile, as they run all over, with no real purpose to their playing.
It's like these kids treat the neighborhood like an apartment complex parking lot.
People are supposed to drive AROUND them?
The streets are full of running kids, kids on bikes, and such. And with an increase in traffic (because we know the "locals" a round here have more vehicles than the driveways can accommodate, there's increased risk TO these kids.
But that's apparently inconsequential to whoever is raising these children.
Used to be a time when if you were playing in the street, someone told you NOT to do that...usually a REAL parent.
They did this because THEY cared. In fact, everyone cared about each other and their children a LOT more than what I'm seeing around here today.
That speaks volumes as to how society is treating the future of our country.
Dare we exit?
What I see is that it takes a tragedy to (temporarily) bring people together and want to care.
And, from where I'm sitting, that future isn't looking AS promising as it should be, given how far we're supposed to be progressing.
Makes you wonder how a society will survive when the ignorant are raising the uneducated...doesn't it?
Things will get better...they have to...for everyone's sake.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

So Sunday AM lightning apparently knocked half of my work's power out. I came home at 9 (4 hours in) to await a text to see if I&M bothers to show up, so here I am.

I read, I nodded my head a lot. The one thing that sunk in- after Jacksonville- is the "What I see is that it takes a tragedy to (temporarily) bring people together and want to care." I doubt we even have that anymore. All that happens now is everyone flocks to social media, to bash each other over their political stance. What I did learn from following that is: 1- people are willing to hang someone without evidence; 2- people are just out there to bitch; 3- everyone reacts based on agenda. Anti gunners preach more gun control (from a shooting at a gun-free zone); Gunners preach "if someone was conceal-carrying, only ONE would've died"; atheists with their "Why waste your time praying to an imaginary" etc etc; and then you have the first on-scene presser where some idiot reporter tried to ask the sherriff (who clearly wasn't going to answer anything) if the event had exceeded the occupancy determined by the fire marshall (I swear I heard it).

Like I told KC last night, you have too many people with that God-shaped hole in them, and Satan is just getting more aggressive in filling them as time grows shorter.Heck, my FB feed had a request for prayer for some church whose lead pastor tried to commit suicide this weekend.

I hope I&M doesn't show up till 3:25...

---Pwr outage? Nothing like an impromptu "time off" gig. Enjoy.
---Your doubts about tragedies are well deserved...between the news cycle and social media, everything is a global tragedy to everyone ALL the time...that's a bit of overkill (no pun intended).
And yes, people will become desensitized to much of it. It doesn't take that long.
---You learned very well, my friend.
A top notch conclusion there.
---A "GOD-shaped hole"...that's a good assessment6 of WAY too many people today.
---It is becoming harder to be left alone and out of all the crap that's flying at us all the time.
I can't (just) roll with it.
---Goodness...you know things must be getting bad when pastors are wanting to off themselves (while pedophilia-loving priests seemingly go unpunished).

Getting REAL crazy out there.

Thanks for stopping by to comment.
Always a welcome pleasure.

Stay safe (and keep cool) yup there, brother.
