Tuesday Tidbits...
Will we ever get a REAL break in this topsy-turvy weather?
Your guess is as good as mine (or any local forecaster's).
But, I will say that down here in the crotch of FTW, it DOES keep the "locals" a bit quieter.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us partly cloudy skies , with increasing clouds into the afternoon. We might have another run of those afternoon showers, so keep the umbrella handy. Temps today will top out around 80 degrees with plenty of humidity (yes, run the A/C).
Now, let's get ourselves a tall cool drink to start the day, as we see what else has been going on....
*** First out of the swollen river is the "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
MAY 28 -
National Brisket Day
(now that's some good eats)
National Hamburger Day
(that can be ANY day at our place)
*** Next, and because it is a Tuesday, let's look at all the FWPD calls that went out last week that we SHOULD have heard about...but never did. Yeah, good weather begets bad behavior.

Just wait until NEXT week! We ARE starting "fireworks season":.
*** Next up...Used to be a time when block parties were SAFE.
https://wtvr.com/2019/05/26/10-shot-virginia-party/
Seems like a nice area.
I suppose THOSE days are gone now?
Nine people shot, one killed at a Chesapeake, VA block party.
More black-on-black crime.
((Detectives determined two groups of people came to the gathering near the Portsmouth border and got into an altercation, with both groups shooting at each other.))
And this is NOT being investigated as a "mass shooting"...why?
*** Next...Here's an update to our latest homicide (#9):
https://wpta21.com/news/top-stories/2019/05/28/coroner-identifies-victim-of-shooting-at-fort-wayne-apartment-complex/
The victim was 41-year old Korta Queary, who was shot in the head.
*** Next up...Legendary QB of the Lombardi-era Green Bay Packers, Bart Starr has passed away at the age of 85. Here's his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bart_Starr
I really liked him as both a player AND as a human being...a real upstanding kinda guy.
--Starr was the only quarterback in NFL history to lead a team to three consecutive league championships (1965–1967).
Therefore, I can honestly say I lost more money to Dad because of Starr's ability on the field when we used to bet on Sunday football games, especially the early Super Bowls...lol.
--Starr has the highest postseason passer rating (104.8) of any quarterback in NFL history. No one else has beaten that one yet.
His player stats are impressive for the era.
Makes me wish I held onto all those old football cards from those days.
*** Next...Time to once again stop by "Kitten Corner"...
"That rain gets noisy."
The little furballs seem to be getting acclimated to the crazy weather (after a couple years)...wish I could.
As could be expected, they both spent the day napping , until the thunder started. Then, they got a bit more"animated" and were coming to be near either Wifey or myself.
"I sleep through most of the rain."
That's fine. We're here to watch over them in ANY capacity.
*** Next up...Let's do our check-in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Our furry twosome had another day of "under the table" feeding, but at least we managed to get dinner and the backstep treats in the open.
"Guess what? The chair fits perfectly."
"Gotta eat fast before it rains again."
In the evening, we JUST made it before we felt raindrops...talk about cutting it close.
We even have "Fluffy" cat come around to snooze.
Napping on TOP of our central A/C unit
When it started raining, the cat up and left (smart move). Heaven knows how today will pan out, but we're crossing our fingers (and paws).
*** Last back to the canoe rental...As you know, I'm a fan of those "good old days".
And there's a reason for wanting to retain the past: they were much better as far as human behavior goes.
Sure, we still had crime, but we'll ALWAYS have those idiots who live for chaos, and foster mayhem, not just here in our city, but all over the world. SUch things will never change.
Yet, through all that...overall, people behaved better.
Take that block party shooting, for example. We had such get-togethers in our neighborhoods, and they NEVER ended with such a thing as a shooting. Hell, we never even had the police come to shut us down, or tell us to keep quiet.
Then again, we didn't have social media back then (and that is the cause of a lot of today's problems).
The people (two separate groups) who did the shooting in Virginia came TO the party, but didn't appear to be "invited". They took a "neutral"  location as the place to settle their differences,
As a result, we had the dead and injured, who were innocent bystanders.
I'm sure the shooters look at this as just some "collateral damage".If there is one thing our society HAS to do, it's to learn to police THEMSELVES; take the time to accept responsibility, and understand what consequences are (and can be).
Anything short of that, and such violence WILL continue.
We used to be a better people, and by God, we need to get back with that program,
Our future does depend upon that.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Truth-in-lead-in dpt: My theme this weekend was #Beerbarefootnbaseball. Sat out on the porch for the end of the front end of the Reds doubleheader. Rain then chased me in. Ate dinner, rain stopped, went back out. Half-hour later, wind picked up, and water fell from the treetops harder than the rain had been!

Hamburger!!!

Fireworks season did open somewhere in the neighborhood... not enough to bug me yet.

Korta Queary? Did mom want to name him Kunta Kinte but got too stoned?

Bart was a guy that really got top accolades. Bill Buckner, too.

Ah, there was some thunder as I type!

---Sounded like you needed a REVOLVING door for that patio. The drops from the trees are also colder than the rain (when it goes down your neck).
---Bet you never met a hamburger you didn't like...right? I know the feeling.
(kinda hard to screw them up)
--They're just getting started...give 'em time. They already got ME POed.
---Sure sounds that way...whatever happened to NORMAL names?
---Starr sure lived up to his last name.
(and many QBs in the day ran car dealerships during the OFF season)
---Yeah, more rain is a'comin'.
(and the lawns keep growing)

Thanks for stopping by today to comment.

Stay safe (and relatively dry up there, brother.

Bart Starr was 85. That is amazing. I think of the heroes of my younger days as being the same age they were back then.

I love Liam Neeson.

Susan:
Yeah, I feel the same way about those from my era (growing up). You expect them to NOT age, and we seem to remember them that way for so long.
Hope people think of ME that way...lol.
Liam Neeson became a favorite actor of mine a LONG time ago when he did a movie called DARKMAN.
(didn't know he was in Delta Force, either)
He just does justice to the shots fired memes of mine...heh.

Thanks for dropping by and commenting.

Be well out there.
