Weekends always seem to come along "sooner" when you have a Monday holiday, don't they?
We're almost there, folks. Just one more day.
Our Hoosierland weather for today bring us cloudy skies (once again), temps reaching up to around 65 degrees, and yes, the possibility of some scattered showers coming our way through most of the day. At least we're not dealing with hot and humid conditions, right?
But, we still might want to take along an umbrella...just in case.
Now, what say we shake off any morning chill with a nice hot cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa, as we see what else has been going on in some of those olf familiar places, hmm?
*** First out of the sugar bowl is the answer to yesterday's WHO SAID THAT? quote:
"I think it is fair to say that during World War II there was a high sense of purpose. The country had a very clear vision of its own standing, of its own morality. It was not an ambiguous time. Today, we live in a world that is highly ambiguous, very fractured, with many of the historical, traditional values in a state of collapse, really."
This was spoken by another "newbie", one Friedrich St. Florian (born 1932) who is an Austrian-American architect. And here is his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich_St._Florian
Now, for you Trivial Pursuit fans out there, this name might ring a bell.
He designed the National World War II Memorial in D.C.
It's a brief read, and makes me want to look up more about him, as he has a marvelous eye for design.
*** Next up, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
SEPTEMBER 7 -
---It's National Acorn Squash Day
(only squash I deal with has a court, a ball, and a raquet)
---It's National Beer Lovers Day
(raise a bottle, glass or mug and say "prost")
---It's National Grandma Moses Day
(they don;t make folk artists like her anymore)
---It's National Grateful Patient Day
(always grateful when I don't die)
---It's National Neither Rain Nor Snow Day
(and the USPS wants to raise stamp prices 11 CENTS?)
---It's National New Hampshire Day
(when the hell is Indiana Day?)
---It's National Salami Day
(got this covered when it comes to Genoa)
*** Next, we're at TWENTY-FOUR HOMICIDES in the Summit City.
Gonna be real easy to hit 25 now (or even 30 at this rate). Here's the story:
http://wane.com/2017/09/07/man-found-dead-inside-oliver-street-home/
This took place around 0010 hrs at a house located at 3027 Oliver St.
Police found a dead man (who had been shot) inside the house, but have not determined if he was shot inside or outside the house. Neighbors had made a "shots fired" call (signal 113) into dispatch, and witnesses saw two people run from the house.
No arrests or suspect information has been released. Victim ID is pending.
Any bets on more black-on-black crime?
((UPDATE - 1530 HRS - The Allen County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Quintin B. Armour, 24 of Fort Wayne, Indiana.))
*** Next up, a rash of liquor store robberies is taking place around the city.
Here's the story (with videos)
http://wane.com/2017/09/06/local-liquor-stores-dealing-with-rash-of-burglaries/
The color video has some pretty good detail on it.
The robbers have hit damn near every store around the city (so far) targeting top-shelf booze (and ciggies...gotta get smokes - check the menthol inventories), and typically hit in the same time frame - between 0100 hrs and 0400 hrs.
And they are making off with a LOT more than can be used for personal consumption.
Maybe it has to do with all those "after-hour" clubs down on the SE side (at residences the police know nothing about)?
And, if I didn't know better, those thugs sure look BLACK to me. The baggy shorts and toothpick legs kinda give it away.
I see similarly-dressed "people" roaming around our part of the ghettohood.
You can hide your face, but the bare arms and legs show how stupid you morons really are.
Ought to have some owners sit in hiding at the stores (well-armed), and when the thugs break in, they can get carried out in body bags when they suck down some 00 buckshot provided by the owner.
That's ONE way to deal with such rampant crime (and probably both the easiest and best way).
*** Next up, let stop by and see what's going on at "Kitten Corner"...
Is Midnight out there yet? |
They took turns watching outside.
I don't see him, but he's supposed to come back. |
I have both of them standing on their hind legs when I hold their bowl over them
(Nah, I don't think we'll ever be ready for Vegas, and that might be a good thing).
*** Next, let's stop by and visit "Midnight and Company"...
Well, we had to have another "stand-in" yesterday morning, but by late morning, our black-furred buddy was brought back by an AC&C officer. He was a nice older man (from Harlan) who transports cats back to their areas as community cats, of which Midnight is now part of the group.
Did 'ya miss me? |
Whiskers was back following him around, and they hung out together for a bit. Midnight then got back into his routine, and took off for a while, only to come back and get his last eats for the evening.
We were given some antibiotics to put in his food, and crushing the pill is easy. I place it in wet food and he eats it with no problem. We've enough pills for most of the week.
It's good to see you again. |
Here's hoping he stays closer to us and farther from any trouble.
*** Last back to the cereal box...one thing about animals you have to admit to...they don't bitch about entitlements.
They tend to act more upon instinctual behaviors, rather than hedonistic crap.
But mankind is so much more "evolved", aren't we?
We prefer to act upon how we "feel" and what we "desire" rather than what we really need.
We look at everything as a "right"...which is wrong. We create more entitlements where there should not be any, and we pat ourselves on our backs for our level of ingenuity and feigned compassion. Hell, the whole immigration issue itself is fast becoming the latest entitlement.
That's not what our country or her people should be about, lest we all fall prey to no longer being able to discern what is right from what is wrong.
Yet, once in a while, there is a glimmer of sanity...of reason, and of true compassion, but it take a catastrophe to bring such things about.
In many ways, while we domesticate animals, we choose to become increasingly more instinctual ourselves.
That's not what I mean when I say "we can learn a lot from our pets".
Humankind needs to start getting it's collective sh*t together, before we all fall so damn far down the rabbit hole, that we cannot find our way out. Maybe it was a "wonderland" to Alice, but these days, I just wonder what land we're creating for our future, because I'm not seeing any awards to humanity being given out right now.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Have to delay that beer for a day or two yet...
That granny looks like Clampett to me...
Hey, avoiding snow in the summer costs money!
Liquor store owners ought to start booby-trapping the Hennessey and Newports when they close...
Chris:
---Well, better late than never, eh?
---Now that you mention it...she DOES.
---Was that SNOW or "snow-job"? LOL
---Plus the Grey Goose and The Don Julio!
Thanks for stopping by to comment.
You stay safe up there, brother.
