Welcome to another Wednesday, or as I prefer to call it our "midweek crisis"...lol.
It's not all bad (just the parts that aren't that good).
And yes, it could always be worse (and knowing the way some people act these days, they are trying to make that a reality for some of us). But, let's not dwell.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us mostly sunny skies (after a rather brisk morning) with a high today of around 70 degrees. Now that is something I believe we can all live with.
So, what say we chase away the chill with a nice warm cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa, as we take a look at what has been going on elsewhere...sounds like a plan to me.
*** First off of the butter dish is our WHO SAID THAT? quote of the week:
"Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, that's all who ever have. "
When you look back at history, you find this to be the truth time and again.
Sometimes it was a good change - other times, not so much. So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post. Meanwhile, back in Samoa...
*** Next up, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
OCTOBER 18 -
---It's BRA Day USA
(it has to do with breast reconstruction awareness, guys...ease off)
---It's Hagfish Day
(sure looks more like some sorta EEL to me)
---It's Medical Assistant's Recognition Day
(if I see one, I'll most likely recognize them)
---It's National Chocolate Cupcake Day
(now, you have my full attention)
---It's National No Beard Day
(not a problem for me at all)
---It's Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day
(don't we all do that with our TAXES already?)
*** Next, a rather auspicious time for this blog.
Today marks the 3000th post...now that is cause for celebration (pass me a Guinness).
Hard to believe that it's taken three thousand times to barely scratch the surface when it comes to what goes on, what needs to be said, and how it affects us on a daily basis.
Be nice if I have another 3000 posts in these aging hands.
Sure, I don't have many followers, compared to a lot of you fellow bloggers, but that's fine.
I like the quality of those few of you who take the time to stop by and speak your mind. I come to enjoy your perspectives and thoughts, and I hope this relationship will continue until there are no more days to be had (that should be a while).
Thank you to ALL of you who make this possible by your comments, and viewership of this humble blog.
Now, let the show continue...
*** Next up, October is a month of "new seasons" as far as TV viewing goes, and we've had some cool stuff going on. Not being a "traditionalist" when it comes to watching TV, I prefer some of the avante-garde fare available.
(no, that does NOT include Bravo...lol)
The new seasons of The Flash, Supergirl, and Arrow prove the writers know how to keep an audience tuned in. A shame that Marvel has not been as successful on the small screen (they're too busy raking in the big bucks on the big screen anyway). A new Marvel show, The Inhumans doesn't seem to follow the comics as closely as I would prefer, so that's a bit of a turn-off for me. Guess I was expecting too much.
DC's Legends of Tomorrow has had some good turns as this season begins, with Rip Hunter running a new "time bureau" and the legends trying to take care of certain anachronisms in time (like a saber-tooth tiger in P.T. Barnum's circus). They even have a "motto" of sorts:
"Sometimes, we screw things up in a GOOD way."
It's a decent romp for an hour.
The 4th season of Star Wars Rebels also premiered this week, and it's the FINAL season for the show. Damn shame, It's one of those series where you come to really LIKE the characters (the Lucas mythos continues), and if you saw Rogue One, there is mention of one character from the Rebels show, as well as a scene with "The Ghost" (ship) included, so there is wonderful continuity with the saga.
Okay, I don't get to see Daredevil or The Punisher (on Netflix)...no biggie for me.
*** Next, Fort Wayne City Council was busy (for a change) last evening. Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20171018/council-spares-fort-wayne-united-funding
Jason Arp (4th district) brings a valid point to the table as to why he was the sole opposing vote for funding of the "Fort Wayne United" gig enacted by (king) Henry last year.
((Arp said he believes local nonprofits and the faith-based community are equipped to handle issues tackled by Fort Wayne United more efficiently than city government.
“One of my concerns with that is that by having the city do it, you've eliminated the opportunity for the churches to do one of their main missions, which is to bring people to salvation,” Arp said. “Proselytizing is not in the description of things we look for city government to do.”
Those who supported the funding the position disagreed, stating that for a program like Fort Wayne United to be successful, it has to come from local government.))
Have to admit he DOES make a good case. Programs like this USED to be in the local churches.
Funny how all the black community churches didn't attempt something like this years ago, and if they ever did, what happened to them?
((Funding for Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control's medical and veterinary services are safe for another year as well.
The council overwhelmingly decided Tuesday against eliminating funding for those services, which amounts to $45,770 – $26,520 for medical services and $19,250 for veterinary services.))
That's good to know, and the explanations by Amy Jo Sites for needed services show that she knows her trade well. Belinda Lewis was a good mentor, apparently.
Council DID approve a few cuts to the budget and that is mentioned at the bottom of the story.
*** Next up, time to stop on by "Kitten Corner"...
She is NOT plotting my demise... |
Looking at mostly nothing... |
I can relate to that...in a two-legged manner.
*** Next, time to make a check in call with "Midnight and Company"...
This is what 3000 posts can do to you. |
She's not AS affected by life in general |
They did like the warmer afternoon, and I;m sure they'll feel likewise again today.
*** Last back to the sugar bowl...much has changed since my first post.
And, thankfully, some things have stayed relatively the same.
As we go through life, it's not so much about the changes in ourselves. They tend to be subtle, barring some trauma, or something that warrants a profound shift in how we live. It's more about how the WORLD changes around us, along with how well we adapt, or, in some instances, how we rail against change we know to be not in our best interest.
Many times, we have no control over how changes will manifest themselves, especially when the world is making those changes. Other times, we can take charge and manifest more of our own destiny, as it were.
Once in a while, whatever change comes along turns out to not work, and things go back to the way they were, but that is infrequent at best.
There is no law that states we HAVE to either like or embrace change - but we DO have to decide for us if any change is something we can utilize for our betterment, or will not adversely affect how we function in our daily lives.
There should never be any cause that forces us to just shrug our shoulders and give in to popular opinion.
That is something we need to think about...every day.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

I think the only group with more subsets having a "national day" than the medical profession is the LGBTQWVCDRFIOIGH groups...
3,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To a veteran of the wars...
Be honest with you, I've dialed back to just NCIS and the odd episode of whatever Laurie's looking at anymore.
"...which is to bring people to salvation..." any more reason for a Dem administration to horn in on the action?
I do believe that many of the black churches DO try to fill this void. However, just like with white churches, the ones who need salvation are rarely the ones in the church- or the program.
Maybe not you for the noose, but perhaps some of your various figurines could be under threat...
Chris:
---Is that ALSO including the GAY MEDICAL groups?
(I hadn't stop to think about THOSE people)
---Doesn't being a vet dictate that the war you're a veteran OF has ended? In many cases, some wars never seem to end at all, do they?
---I've also gotten very "selective" about what I choose to entertain me (and it's usually never the news...lol)
If any (other) show gets too "political" I'm outta there!
---Excellent point you make...(he shoots, he scores!)
---Can't have an effective outreach IF those who need these programs never are sought out and brought "into the fold"...
I know what you mean there.
---Oh, I don't think she'd even consider going after the Avengers figures...LOL.
(she does spend a lot of time looking outside, though. I wonder...)
Thanks much for spending some time here today to comment.
Always appreciated.
You stay safe up there, brother.
