Humpday Happenings...
And clearing the sidewalk & driveway of snow?.
Welcome to another of our midweek crises, which we often call Wednesday.
Looking outside today is a lot more user-friendly, compared to yesterday, that's for sure.
Not AS many school delays compared to Tuesday.
Still, dress appropriately and drive carefully.
Our Hoosierland weather brings us mostly cloudy skies, temps reaching to around 25 degrees.
So without any further ado, let''s all get a nice hot cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa poured and parked close at hand, as we see what else has been going on.,..
*** First out of the snow boots is our WHO SAID THAT? quote for the week:
"One unerring mark of the love of truth is not entertaining any proposition with greater assurance than the proofs it is built upon will warrant."
Considering that I found a great quote about "universal" education being eroding (which turned out to be a Hitler quote), I had to change that and peruse the vast repository of notable quotes to find THIS one instead,
I believe it to be much more on track with what society requires these days.
So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at Pensford, England...
*** Next, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
FEBRUARY 7 -
---It's National Fettuccine Alfredo Day
(Marie Callender to the rescue)
---It's National Girls and Women in Sports Day
(sure glad Nassar is behind bars now)
---It's National Periodic Table Day
(I still can't find Vibranium)
---It's National Send a Card to a Friend Day
(should I write something ON it first?)
*** Next up, yes friends, another shooting (make that THREE) on the SE side.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20180207/drive-by-shooting-leaves-3-injured
This took place in the 1900 block of E. Pontiac St around 2015 hrs last evening.
Three victims were standing on the porch of the house when bullets started flying from a drive-by vehicle. Two juveniles and one adult were hit. Two of the victims were in serious condition and one was in good condition.
((A family speaking Spanish arrived at the scene after the shooting.
A woman said her aunt who is about 60 years old has lived in the house since the late 1980s along with another man who is in his late 50s.)) Getting so you can't stand on a porch on the SE side these days, not that it was warm enough to want to do so. Should be a more than "interesting" summer for sure in the ghettohood.
*** Next, Red River Waste Management was at city council last night. Here's the lowdown.
wane.com/2018/02/06/trash-concerns-make-their-way-to-city-council/
They're doing a very good job, considering...
Sounds like they have their act together, in spite of the mess they had on their hands when they took over the first of this year. I don't think such apologies were necessary, but there ARE those who are never satisfied and want everything done yesterday...and perfectly the first time.
*** Next up, a good commentary by Leo Morris of the N-S. Here's the link:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/opinion/commentary/2018/02/07/leo-morris-ustoo-shout-indiana-legislators/
You have to hand it to Leo...he calls 'em as he sees 'em...and I like that.
((“Legislators more than a year away from a re-election bid and guilty of sexual harassment should:
“1. Have to watch a two-hour video.
“2. Receive a stern letter from the governor.
“3. Be required to read thoroughly all legislation they plan to vote on and pass a test on it.
“4. Calculate the value of Pi to the 10th place.”))
Naturally, this concerns the whole #metoo movement going on.
I mean, our lawmakers have to get with the program as well, right?
This whole deal has ambiguity written all over it, because there can never be one, positive, determining set of "rules" for what is meant by sexual indecency (behavior), right?
What's okay for many might be taboo for some...and so on. I like Leo's take.
*** Next, time to stop on by our "Kitten Corner"...
Violet waits to grocery shop
It seems when the snow falls, the kids are not as antsy as usual, which if fine, because I'm too busy aching from shoveling to chase after them. I prefer them to mind themselves for a spell.
Gallifrey just catches some rays
They do a pretty good job of behaving, too. That is, when they WANT to behave.
And on a day like yesterday, I don't mind sharing nap time with them one...single...bit.
*** Next up, time to check in with "Midnight and Company"...
It was snowy, it was cold, but both of our furry twosome were right by the patio door when it was time to get fed (and change the water from ice to liquid).
Looks good by the garage.
As you could guess, before it was breakfast time, Wifey and I had BOTH "supervisors" to make sure we got the driveway cleared off properly, and my "boss" had to make sure the sidewalk and steps were done as well.
Looks good from out front, too.
I fed them on the ground, as it was a lot easier to clear off a spot for them.
Midnight made his "rounds" close by the house...he sat on the front step for a while, just watching anything and anyone. So he got some treats as a "reward" for his diligence..
Whiskers just takes care of the patio (and the shelters)
Well, someone's got to do that.
*** Last back to the slat-covered streets...I read where a perp robbed a FLOWER shop yesterday.
I call 'em stupid.
Sorry, no ciggies or booze there. But, there is money.
That's pretty disturbing, because this isn't a "usual" venue for such crimes, like banks, convenient stores, and such. But, it IS a business up along Goshen Ave (not all that far from those drug-infested "no-tell motels" are along Goshen ROAD).
In fact most every business along that stretch of road has been hit...some multiple times.
http://wane.com/2018/02/06/police-look-for-robber-in-latest-goshen-ave-incident/
I know the police can't be everywhere at once, but with an area where robberies occur (of late) with greater frequency, you'd THINK there would be more patrols sending a message to the perps that "we're watching for you".
I also WANT to believe that we are safe where we live in this city, but a lot of evidence seems to point to the contrary (unless you're wealthy enough to be in a NICE part of town, far from the madding crowds).
When businesses start getting hit more often, they will up and leave the area...seen it all before right down here where we live...over a hundred businesses gone...because of the CRIME.
Who wants to run a shop where they may get robbed or shot (or worse)? And why endanger employees OR customers?
All the money being dumped into downtown and the riverfront COULD be better utilized in making the REST of the city AS safe as the areas that have been safe for years. It's just a thought.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

So I pass your blog to get to the other, lesser blogs below you on the list. I hit the end of what I hadn't read, start back up, wonder why I'm back where I was, wondering why your post is up at the top. Enough, Chris! Get some sugar in you, now!

And the quote's gonna take me a minute... Oh wait, illuminati hotties are on, make it three minutes... (Don't ya just love my play by play comments?)... Okay, got it. Very true. In other words, "check yer sources". IDK it is, but I bet he'd (or she'd) hate The Onion or the Babylon Bee.

Yes, I am doing the M10 as I type. I may have to resort to coin flipping or making Scrappy pick this week...

So you pick a subject when you do the quotes, and not just a semi-random pick? Interesting. Reminds me of Doc Martin's Rule #6 (later, okay?).

Vibranium is only there periodically.

"...should I write something ON it first?" Perhaps an address- depends on if you choose to stamp it.

Red River: I saw one of their trucks today...

I've read Leo before (somewhere) and they don't come much sharper. But in truth, I think the time for the legs to watch the video should be assigned, twenty legs at a time, with the Governor in attendance EVERY SINGLE TIME as well as a watchdog rep to make sure they squirm, er, pay attention.

BTW did you listen to Leininger and Miller defending the Blonde Phantom today? I hope Loomis hangs her. I realize she isn't the only problem, but a more aggressive prosecutor might just take the sneer off some faces.

Chris:
---Well, I DO try to have enough "social fiber" in my blog so you can pass it EASILY...lol.
---Always good to watch a person "multi-task"...heh.
---I do try and have it reflect somewhat on the week's subject matter...mankind will usually HAND it to you.
---Vibranium - periodically...ROFL...nicely done.
---Yeah, they don't say a single syllable on ANY of that stuff.
---RR has MUCH better trucks than previous haulers...they even have the area where the trash gets tossed LIT UP with LED lighting!
(makes misses a LOT harder)
---OR...they could just WIRE those seats with 10,000 volts in case anyone decides to "nod off"...Pavlov, anyone?
---I was listening, but (to me) it sounded more like a sense of "resignation" for the time being?. Maybe I missed a few sentences.
Personally, I agree we need a MUCH stronger prosecutorial office and staff...where is a Giuliani when you NEED one?
I will concede Richards is better (not by much, however) than the previous dipwad (Bob Gevers) who became a defense atty.
Thanks much for stopping on by to comment.
Much appreciated.

Stay safe (and warm) up there, brother.
