Monday Musings...
If you had ANY doubt whether we were going to keep enjoying all the mild-ish weather we had last week, I think the past 24 hours would put that to rest.
Baby, it's COLD outside (once again). Always fun to go from 40 degree conditions to snow, ice and sub-zero temps...NOT.
(damn global warming)
Do dress appropriately and drive accordingly, for you can bet others will not.
Our Hooiserland weather for today brings us partly sunny skies (increasing clouds during the day), temps only reaching to around 24 degrees, and some more snow showers coming by later on with just enough to make things craptastic.
(yep, sure STILL feels like winter to me too)
Now, let's settle back and get that nice hot cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa made, while we take a look at what else has been going on...
*** First out of the arctic is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
FEBRUARY 5 -
---It's National Shower With a Friend Day
(nah...gonna pass on that one.)
---It's National Weatherperson's Day
(getting paid obscene wages for being correct 50% of the time...sounds like a politician)
---It's also World Nutrella Day
(And the French went bat-shit crazy over this recently)
*** Next up, a local cinema falls on hard times. Here's the story:
www.wpta21.com/story/37422912/health-department-shuts-down-apollo-coventry-cinemas
Gee, this sounds JUST like when the old (and gone) Southtown Cinemas were open.
In our case, closure was imminent (family-owned and operated), only 3 screens, and a wonderfull assortment of local human flotsam trashing the place caused their demise.
Vandalism was rampant and the last movie Wifey and I saw there was Men in Black.
It (and the rest of the mall there) closed not too much later...a damn shame, too.
The Apollo Coventry has it's share of problems, but one still has to wonder WHY this happens?
Poor management is definitely at work here, but what about the clientele? I'm sure that fits into all this.
Yeah, when you start having "indoor water featuires" issuing from the ceiling...time to start inspecting things.
*** Next, a black male is wanted in connection with a shooting (big surprise there). Here's the details:
http://wane.com/2018/02/04/fwpd-release-details-on-suspect-wanted-in-francis-street-shooting-asks-for-publics-help/
((Jaevin Eugene Bowie, 21, Fort Wayne, is wanted for the murder of Terrance L. Miles.
Another P.O.S. LOSER
Miles was shot and killed near the East Central Towers in May 2017. His body was found in a grassy area near a parking lot on Francis Street.))
This perp is considered armed AND dangerous (aren't most ALL these jerks?)
*** Next up, I usually don't cover sports (that much) here, and I know it's hard to believe, but the age of miracles might well be upon us.
Here's some proof:
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/eagles-win-2018-super-bowl-foles-shines-bradys-magic-wears-off-more-takeaways/
Got some numerology here, too. I was BORN in Philly back in 1952...the Eagles won Super Bow, 52. First such win in franchise history (they did win NFL championships prior to creation of the Super Bowl. Broke some records yesterday, too.
Kinda says it ALL, doesn't it?
And it only took the Eagle TWENTY YEARS after I left the city of brotherly shove to provide a super bowl win.
We came close around 1980, but we didn't get TO the super bowl.
This time around...all the way..."top o' the world, Ma"!
And, as usual, Philly fans showed their "appreciation" here:
http://www.philly.com/philly/super-bowl-lii/eagles-fans-super-bowl-2018-philadelphia-police-cops-streets-celebration-20180204.html
((As State Police mounted on horseback moved through the mass of people later, people chanted, “Don’t punch the horses.” And a group of well-meaning fans helped right planters that had been toppled along North Broad Street at the height of the celebration.))
Yeah, Philly fans ARE a really strange bunch...but they do have Tastykakes.
Congrats to (backup) QB Nick Foles and the "Iggles" for the win...about damn time, and very sweet.
*** Next, I did pick another winner in the Kitten Bowl...the Pouncy Panthers went all the way to win. I voted for "Macaroni" as the MVK (most valuable kitten). Poll results today.
Hell, they were ALL winners, in that they were adopted by loving families.
The Puppy Bowl was pretty good, too, but their halftime show was a RIOT!
Michael the cat...his halftime video had me crying laughing (well edited).
I still could not get our cats interested in either event...
*** Next up, and speaking of our own Gallifrey and Violet...
Our kids were fairly well-behaved most al weekend. Yeah, we had a couple moments of chiding, but for balance of the time, all went rather well.
They even "helped" with putting the groceries away...kinda.
On Sunday, try as we could, we could not get them watching the television when it was Kitten Bowl time...
They did watch the laser pointer and as usual, spent time napping in or on thier respective locations.
*** Next, time to check in with "Midnight and Company"...
It was a fun weekend for our furry twosome. Whenever I went to clear off the sidewalk or back steps, I had my "supervisor" nearby, assisting me to make sure I cleared everything off in a proper manner.
I think 'ya missed a spot, Ace.
Always good to have that "second opinion", right?
You gonna clean off the patio now?
Whiskers was content to watch things from a bit farther away (when she wasn;t in the shelter).
On Friday, we had the "twins" show up (no, the OTHER twins). Definitely litter-mates and not community cats.
They hung out for a bit, didn't seem hungry, and after a brief time, they both left. I guess having Midnight watch them was sufficient to let them know WHO "ruled the roost" as it were.
Still, they are cute, but two outside cats in plenty for us...for now.
*** Last back to the igloo...people today have no idea how to celebrate.
The Eagles win clearly demonstrates that much.
I mean, it's not like winning a war for INDEPENDENCE...or a victory in a WORLD WAR, right?
WW2 victory - Now THIS was worth a little crazy.
It's a stinking sporting event. Granted this was a "first" for my birth city, but still, you can celebrate WITHOUT having to resort to trashing stores, vehicles, and other assorted items that do not belong to you.
The police (there) did the best they could, and I;m sure got caught up in the celebration as well.
Plus, having over FIVE decades of democrat rule in Philly doesn't help one damn bit.
Consider it a LIBERAL manner of celebratory activity, which denotes a decent level of vandalism.
I recall when the Flyers won their first Stanley Cup...some yahoos took a bleachers from the playground a block away and stuck it in the middle of Robbins Ave (the main route leading to the Tacony-Palmyra bridge to NJ...that was stupid beyond belief.
Damn near caused more than a few accidents
There are just as many GOOD ways to celebrate as there are bad ones...trouble is, people usually default to the bad ones, never stopping to think of consequences.
Doing things the right way takes that parameter out of the net result, doesn't it?
Sure is a good lesson to take away from it...right?
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Great post! I love your kitties...and yes, it is wintery out there. Yikes. I figured you would celebrate the Eagles' win. Have a happy Monday and stay warm up there.

---It feels like LAST month all over again...it's THAT cold!!!
(damn global warming)...lol
---Truth be told, I didn't REALLY "celebrate" the win...I just SMILED and said "about damn time"!
(last championship won by Philly was WAY back in 1960 - the NFL championship)
don't worry, I'm not gonna run out and get a sh*tload of "Iggles" gear...been done w/ that for decades.

---Let's just say the (Eagles) WIN wasn't as much fun to read about as the (Patriots) LOSS was...LMAO!

Thanks for rolling up to comment today.
Have yourself a great week!

Stay safe (and keep warm) down there, dear.

Shower with a friend- Was it Groucho who or WC who did the bit about, "Any club that would have me as a member..."

Know well the Nutella story. Teased Laurie about standing too close to it a couple days later.

Coventry: That place was getting dodgy 15 years ago. "No working heat in most of the building"... really? Imagine the packed houses...

My take on a bit of the SB just posted.

I did see most of the Puppy Bowl- however, much like human football, I watched the halftime and most of the third quarter through my eyelids. Loved the piano-playing chicken!

I apologize for laughing at the bleacher thing... but that WAS funny!

---LOL...good call w/ Groucho and YES, he was SO right!
---I've never tried it...and I should like it (Hazelnut AND chocolate), but it would appear better as an additive like Hershey's or Nestle's Quik...not on bread.
---When management gives up or is at the mercy of vandals, sadly, there's little to be done to reverse things.
Saw that first-hand at Southtown...a shame. That's why I like DVDs . Movies and theaters are still good...the people?
(that's another story)
---I wonder how much of being "on like pages" we were w/ the SB?
---The chicken was cool. You missed a LOT with Michael the cat, though.
---No apology needed...we laughed at the dumbasses...right up until the COPS arrived and put things back to right, and ticketed the morons!

Hey, thanks for stopping by to comment.

Stay safe (and keep WARM) up there, brother.
