Now THAT was one hot weekend, and I don't mean that in a good way.
I know our A/C was set to 74, and it ran practically non-stop.
It only cycled off during the overnight hours (when it dropped to a chilly 70 degrees).
Welcome to another day of our "summer in the city". How's the back of YOUR neck?
Our Hoosierland weather brings us a bit more heat today, with temps rising to around 87 degrees, but we do have partly to mostly cloudy skies, in anticipation of some scattered rain which may come to visit during the day.
So, let's begin the personal hydration process anew with a refreshing drink, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the steam bath is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JULY 2 -
---It's National Anisette Day
(that looks cool and delicious...if you like licorice-flavored liqueur)
*** Next, yes sir...another shooting on the SE side (where else?)...this time at an American Legion post. I think we've had trouble there in the past.
Here's the story:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38549946/man-critically-hurt-after-east-lewis-street-shooting
When police got to scene, they found the victim had already been taken to hospital by "a good Samaritan".
The victim was listed in critical condition.
Police will be questioning the victim to see what took place.
*** Next up...an end to an era. Here's the story:
https://www.wane.com/news/national-world/goodbye-geoffrey-toys-r-us-closes-its-last-stores/1273763868

There was hardly a whimper to be heard.
Looks like Wal-Mart and Target will be picking up the "slack" when it comes to toys (for the time being).
And to think there are SO many people who grew up knowing no other REAL: toy store than TRU...very sad indeed for children and the childhood of many.
Makes me wonder HOW we're going to know what "new" toys are coming out? Maybe larger ads in the papers?
*** Next, an ongoing problem in America that requires some serious attention. Here's the story:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/opinion/commentary/2018/06/26/news-sentinel-com-editorial-are-our-moral-obligations-failing/
Now, who could have known that we have a problem with MORALITY in this country (founded by Godlier men than we see today)?
For example, rather than come to the aid of a person, we see the social-media-driven in America all grabbing their smart phones to see who can be the first to post a video on their favorite website and start stacking up the "likes".

We've created one slippery slope with social media, and then we dare question when people do indeed slip and fall down the damn hill.
We DO have to come to terms with such wrongful behavior and get a bit closer to what it means to be a more moral individual.
*** Next up, While we're on the subject of morality, we have some light being shed from under some shrubs., Here's the story.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/“star-spangled-banner”-in-church-sunday-christians-debating-god-and-country-anew/ar-AAzpCCs?ocid=spartanntp
Church and patriotism...now WHO could have not seen this coming? And a refreshing change it could well become.
As can be expected in today's world, there are those who find that Christian nationalism is problematic.
My only beef is when GOD is not put first. Aside from that, I've got no issues with acknowledging our country, which has been the recipient of divine providence since it's inception.
And, as far as "separation of church and state"? Read the Constitution and learn what that REALLY means.
Pledging allegiance to the United States is fine (even in church), but as Christians, the FIRST allegiance is to the Almighty...period.
*** Next, time to visit our "Kitten Corner"...

I like being with the birdies on the sofa |
Not a bad word can be said about either one.
We did have a time where we "lost" Gallifrey (even the Doctor had that happen for a spell). We called him and I shook the food bag...nothing.
![]() |
I iz not lost...I iz right here. |
I was nearing panic mode, because I KNEW he didn't get out.
![]() |
I iz being cute for you. |
*** Next up, time to check in with "Midnight and Company"...
![]() |
That cool water tasted REAL good! |
![]() |
I iz too hot to open BOTH eyes |
![]() |
I'll eat a little later when I get my energy back. |
I changed the water out several times for them (who likes drinking warm water anyway?), so that was never a problem..
Overall, both of them did fine.

I'm with her...too warm right now to eat. |
*** Last back to the oven rack...I am still under the impression that the earth is undergoing some change we're not being made aware of (why panic the unwashed masses needlessly anyway, hmm?).
Perhaps we are having some global warming, but I believe that the "man-made" aspect of it has been more a ploy than anything else.
We've gone through such varied temperature shifts throughout time, and with recent volcanic activity (around the world), we could wind up with a cool-down in the coming years.
When you consider how "perfect" our location is in the universe, it's beyond comprehension.
We are in the "Goldilocks" zone, as many astrophysicists call it. And, we also have seen our world "wobble" (no longer a theory) in our journey around the sun, which means weather patterns will change...and there's not a single thing WE can do about it.
Our sun, which helps life to continue (here) is also a killer, and could take us out within minutes. CMEs strike the earth, sunspots cause electrical grid issues, and even farther out, gamma ray bursts from distant galaxies can wreak havoc should we eve get nailed with a decent one. As dangerous as our world is with the people we have causing mayhem everywhere, the universe is a much MORE dangerous place, and there has to be some level of divine intervention that has allowed us to exist this long.
Maybe all of us should make the best use OF that existence, instead of wallowing in self-effacing hedonistic pursuits. Can't take it with you anyway, right?
A little bit of morality does go a long way...always has, and always will.
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Licorice liqueur... not feeling it...
I remember how exciting the new toys used to be... then we got sophisticated...
Morality- just hitting that section in Colson's God And Government (lunchtime at work).
Goes with your section on Church and patriotism. Colson was a really blessed writer.
I wondered why Gallifrey wanted to borrow the Tardis...
An intelligent populace, believing correctly or incorrectly that man is throwing things off balance climate-wise, would praise God for the intricate balance He made. Didn't hear about that section in Al Gore's book...
Chris:
---Maybe licorice is a bit "strong".
Think more like FENNEL.
If you ever had sambuca or ouzo...it's kinda like those.
---And our "toys" got a WHOLE lot more EXPENSIVE...LOL!
---I always enjoyed reading his columns in Christianity Today. Had a good message.
Goes to show you can TRULY turn your life around and make that difference.
---ROFL...never let the cat do that (or use your credit cards)...!
---Yeah, it's really AMAZING that THAT particular section was "conveniently" left out...
Thanks much for taking some time to brave the heat and stop by to comment.
Stay safe (and well shaded) up there, brother.
