Friday Follies...
It looks like we'll FINALLY get above freezing...and STAY there for a while (will wonders never cease?).
That should bring sighs of relief throughout the realm, right?
We've lots of ground to cover, so let's jump right into it.
Our Hoosierland weather today brings us mostly cloudy skies, temps rising to around 40 degrees (there's always a trade-off, isn't there?), and some light snow flurries this morning, which should melt away soon enough.
Now, let's all get that cup, glass, or mug of Friday Fortitude poured and parked close by, as we se what else has been going on....
*** First out of the fridge is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
MARCH  8 -
---It's National Oregon Day
(land of big timber...and loud liberals)
---It's National Peanut Cluster Day
(they used to also call these "turtles"...love em!)
---It's National Proofreading Day
(when spell-check lets you down gloriously)
---It's National Tartar Sauce Day
(never was a fan of this, but it's okay on the filet-o-fish sandwiches)
*** Next, and since we have arrived at week's end, let's take a look at what we can observe over the following 48 hours...
MARCH 9 -
---Saturday is National Barbie Day
(and I should care about this WHY?)
---It's National Crab Meat Day
(yes, and keep it coming)
---It's National Get Over It Day
(so, what exactly is the IT I need to get over?)
---It's National Meatball Day
(meatball sandwich time for me!)
MARCH 10 -
---Sunday is Daylight Saving Time
(which has yet to convince me it's saving ANYTHING)
I heard that energu use actually goes UP...so much for SAVING that.
---It's National Blueberry Popover Day
(what's the difference between a TURNover and POPover?)
---It's National Mario Day
(the game that never seems to end)
---It's National Pack Your Lunch Day
(shouldn't this be on a WORK day?)
---It's National Women and Girls HIV-AIDS Awareness Day
(yeah, it's called LESS CASUAL SEX, ladies)
And there we go then...plenty to keep you occupied and out of jail.
Just remember to ALWAYS observe responsibly.
*** Next up, as could be expected in our fair city, we start the weekend off with a BANG...here's the story:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/shooting-victim-found-lying-in-the-street/1834987363
This took place around 0415 hrs at Hanna just north of Wayne St...it's still the SOUTHEAST part of Fort Wayne, but closer to downtown (where the action is).
One male was taken to hospital in serious condition.
The man was uncooperative with police and found a bottle of alcohol near where the man had been found.
*** Next, an Indiana house bill regarding utilities gets backlash:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20190308/utilities-measure-gets-denounced
((If our state senators don't stop House Bill 1470, you – the customer – will be footing the bill for undisclosed projects through monthly fees that can be raised without oversight,” Hamman continued, standing near Wayne and Calhoun streets. “Fees will go up before you even turn on the lights.”))
Well, that doesn't sound all that good, does it?
And, right on the heels of a recent rate hike to boot.
*** Next up, remember when mom told you NOT to play with knives?
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/courts/20190307/woman-charged-in-knife-attack
Apparently, Connie Brantley, 40, never got that memo, because she slashed her "boyfriend" and is being charged with FIVE felonies.
She did slash him with a knife he had GIVEN her "for her protection".
((She told officers around 3 p.m. Wednesday that she came home from work to find the man and a woman in a car, and they "were engaged in oral sex," according to a probable cause affidavit.))
Well, that might make a woman go from 0 to bitch in a second or two.
You just gotta love the way these people live. That's why I'm not fond of people pulling over and parking along OUR property (for no reason). Some buck might be getting some "trim", and I don't want THAT behavior near the "Fortress".
*** Next, finally, after all this time, the "verdict" is in. Here's the story:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/smart-living/over-or-under-toilet-roll-debate-finally-settled-thanks-to-128-year-old-manual/ar-BBUtDw6?ocid=spartanntp
Yes, the CORRECT way to place a roll of toilet paper on the holder is to have it hang OVER (and NOT under)! Knew it (for a very long time).
Glad to see reason win out on this. Now, my wife has NO excuse to misplace future rolls...LOL
*** Next up, time to stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
"Daddy's always got that camera around."
Our kids had another good day, and that always means lots of naps, lots of cuteness, and even some bird-watching, when they're not being chased by one overly excitable feline, who shall remain nameless).
"Aw, geez...not another photo..."
It's not easy to get pictures when they're stretching or playing...they move around too much, but I'll still try.
You never know of you might get lucky.
*** Next up, let's check in with "Midnight and Whiskers":...
The furry duo  were close by the house for most of the day.
"Okay, time for the "squirrel-watching."
At lunchtime, I had to jungle my keys for Midnight, as he was someplace else. Found out it was across the street, for I saw  a streak of "black lightning" fly across the street and u our lawn to the patio gate. Took him all of 2-3 seconds to cross a good 50+ feet
Anyone thinks he can;t run fast is sadly mistaken. That boy can fly when he has to...lol.
"And I watch him watching squirrels."
Meanwhile, Whiskers was just being the cute little furball she is, not wandering off and being there for every meal.. You can find her most every morning at the patio step, watching and waiting for her breakfast. Love the way she stretches up on the screen. Pilates for felines? Could be.
*** Last back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe...today is the premiere of their latest movie Captain Marvel.
Now they had a "review" in today;a paper, and the person only gave it 2 1/2 stars, so I immediately went into defensive mode, because if you are going to review a SUPERHERO movie, it pays to have some KNOWLEDGE of the genre...right?
Well, obviously, this person did not, so you can imagine there was no proper point of refernce or context with which to write said review.
I've followed this character since HE first showed up in the comics, WAY back in the late 60s.
Over the years Captain Marvel has become a WOMAN, and it had NOTHING to do with transgender stuff AT ALL.
The original character was a member of the KREE race, the same guys that spawned Ronin the Accuser from the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The Kree have been at war with a race called the Skrulls for a long time, and you can pretty much figure out the rest. Personally, I liked all the incarnations of this character.
The newest plays heavily into the Avengers Endgame movie coming out soon, but the film takes place in the 1990s.
The ending scenes from Infinity War have Nick Fury using a pager before he dissolves...a pager that has a certain cosmic "contact".
We need heroes in today's world, and whether we find them on the world's fields of battle, patrolling our streets, rescuing people from burning houses, or even between the covers of comics or graphic novels, their presence provides us all with a feeling of safety; a feeling that whatever comes along, they will be there to aid us in our time of need.
And yet, most all of the rest of us are capable of being heroic. Maybe we just need a "push"..
Do have yourselves a good weekend.
(don't forget to set your clocks and watches AHEAD 1 hour)
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

See 'ya next week.

And now, before I get distracted again (see letter), here I am...

I didn't like any of the March 8 days...crab meat and Meatbubs saved the 9th... and the blueberry popover is fine, but you can have the rest!

Oh, let me give this one to you- I already shared it with "the Maven"- Friday morning, I swear I heard Kayla say, "You know the saying, 'the greasy wheel gets the oil'..."

Here's what burns me- we the people put up with enough clear and reasonable "grumble, shake yer head, and pay" taxes honestly... why do legislators feel they have to be dishonest, sneaky shits when the need more?

"Yeah, let me give you a knife to keep you safe, while I step outside and catch a BJ..." And they wonder why...

TP: Still much easier to sit it on top of the "tp container" and pick it up by hand. Don't have to worry about rolling, and don't have to mess with the roll-holder.

Closer: That's why I don't care about reviews- even if you discount the dishonest neo-luddites and shippers who weigh in way too early on Rotten Tomatoes, you have way too many of them who don't know genres or characters and/or have a chip on the shoulder. Like I told Arlee Bird the other day, I liked The League Of Extrordinary Gentelmen and Stallone's Judge Dredd. They can go suck it.

Chris:
---Yeah, a lot of those days I could have done without.
---I'll have to check the Maven out as well.
Kayla REALLY misspoke on that one...didn't catch it, myself, but it doesn't surprise me.
---The LACK of transparency is what pisses me off about this. They "claim" they are, and yet every time, we catch them with their pants down around their ankles.
To me transparency means folks like US can SEE RIGHT THROUGH THEM.
---Maybe it's a "cultural" thang with the ghetto crowd?
---LOL...please tell me you don't REALLY do that.
---Considering the J-G is a liberal-leaning newspaper, it's not surprising the review was not that good...liberals seem to be the party of "disenchanted with everything". Must be a Helluva life for them.
Many others gave the movie very good reviews.
Personally, I like what "I" like...as do you.
And yes, both Dredd and LoEG were goth excellent flicks.

Thanks for stopping on by to comment.

Stay safe (and stay strong) up there, brother.
