11 March 2019

Monday Musings...
Well, we didn't get any more snow over the weekend, but we got us a snotload of rain, didn't we?
I can honestly way we no longer have ANY remnants of snow or ice on the property (too long enough).
Those winds kept the random trash blowing about down here.
Be nice to wake up and have an honest-to-God GOOD day once in a while.
Our Hoosierland weather for today bring us mostly sunny skies, a high of around 42 degrees, and the winds will be a lot less.
(can we stand the strain?)
So, let's get a refreshing drink to whet the whistle, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the driveway is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
MARCH 11 -
---It's National Funeral Director and Mortician Appreciation Day
(I'm sure those in minority communities do appreciate them)
---It's National Johnny Appleseed Day
(guess Fort Wayne got the date wrong?)
---It's National Napping Day
(don't have to tell me OR the cats that)
---It's National Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day
(sounds interesting)
---It's National Promposal Day
(how contrived is this one?)
---It's National Worship of Tools Day
(we'd be better served worshiping a much HIGHER authority)
*** Next, we have yet another death investigation:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/man-found-dead-on-hanna-street/1837222457
This took place around 0315 hrs Saturday at the Hanna and E. Crieghton intersection.
It's being listed as a hit and run.
*** Next up, we also have an early morning shooting at a house. Here's what's know:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/suspect-shoots-through-house-hits-victim/1839482108
This took place at a house in the 2800 block of Oakwood Drive around 0120 hrs. Investigators said someone shot the house several times, focusing their fire in the area of a room with its light on.
A man was struck in the lower back and taken to hospital in serious condition. Yes, this IS the SE side (a few blocks off of Tillman Rd).
*** Next, are you tired of changing the clocks and watches...so are a lot of others.
Here's the story:
www.journalgazette.net/news/politics/20190310/sick-of-springing-forward-youre-not-alone
I'm all for going back to STANDARD TIME...and STAYING there. The story mentions that some would rather stay on DST...
Sorry, that's not very good (or smart), especially for kids going to school in the DARK throughout most of their year.
Here's some background to all this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time
Yes, it was first started in GERMANY (1916) during the 1at World War....imagine that.
America didn't play "follow the leader" until 1918.
While this is all well and good with industrial cities (to a limited degree), it does play hell with farmers.
Crazy, huh?
*** Next, well, it''s not Arnim Zola's Algorithm, but we're getting there. Here's the sotry:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/us/20190310/modern-policing-algorithm-helps-nypd-spot-crime-patterns
Being able to "predict" changes or patterns related to criminal activity...now novel.
So, how long before we start doing a "minority report" kinda gig?
Gotta be real careful here with this stuff.
*** Next up, time to once again stop by "Kitten Corner"...
The children had a good weekend, but as could be expected, got "antsy" when it came to feeding after the time change.
Okay, "American Gothic" it ain't.
(technically, they're getting fed an hour LATER, but try explaining the whole DST thing to cats...not exactly the audience response you'd like.
Still, this will work out...just in time to change the clocks BACK in the fall...lol.
Yes, even our pets know better...don't they?
*** Next, let's do our check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
No fun being all by myself.
Our furry twosome had a good weekend, as well.
Saturday wasn't bad, but weather changed later on and that messed things up a bit.
Whiskers was nearby all weekend, but Midnight chose to wander off after yesterday's breakfast, and he didn't come back for lunch OR dinner. That's odd for him.
Hopefully, he'll return soon.
I know he's not that fond of all the winds we had, but he usually comes by sometime later in the day, if only for some treats. Here we go again with me worrying about him.
*** Last back to the garage...it always bothers me to hear about another shooting.
And, it should bother every other living soul in this city.
People create their own circumstances when it comes to such behavior, so it should come as no surprise to them when things don't turn out how they would like.
The allure of drugs, or quick cash, or street cred...whatever the case, ALWAYS comes with it's own set of consequences, and yet, people still expect a different outcome than what they usually "enjoy".
One would think that growing up, these people would be instilled with a better sense of ethics...not so.
We're into the multi-generational aspect of this now, and for every generation that poursues such hedonism, it will take at least three subsequent generations to undo this crap-fest.
All that's needed to change this around is the willingness to do better, become better, and make life better for themselves and for others. Shouldn't be that hard to figure out, right?
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Chris:
---AS a person who grew up with sinus issues, it's certainly NOT anything "slushie'...(drippy, perhaps)...lol.
Trust me, snotload works well.
---Yeah, talk about JOB SECURITY, especially on the SE side...!
---Nap day...YASUREYOUBETCHA!
---I just like to have "the right tool for the right job". Anything else is a waste (but looks cool on the pegboard).
---You got THAT right...you can almost see the line of progressive ambulance-chasing lawyers lining up for this one.
---God bless Scrappy. He's a better dog than I am...heh.
---Midnight HAS returned...that boy is gonna give me a coronary!
(if he doesn't give me an ulcer first)
Children...what can 'ya do, right?

Thanks for swinging on by to comment.

Stay safe (and sound) up there, brother.
