Friday Follies...
If you enjoyed the heat yesterday (I and our community cats did not), then today (and the next several) will make you smile.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us much the same as we had yesterday. We will have mostly sunny skies, temps again climbing to around the 90 degree mark , plus a rise in humidity, which will drive the heat index into the low 90s, so it WILL feel a bit more uncomfortable.
Take the proper precautions and don't spend too much time outside, if you can help it.
Now, let's start the day with a cup, glass, or mug of Friday Fortitude, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the wading pool is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JUNE 28 -
National Logistics Day
(each day is s study in this)
National Paul Bunyan Day
(one of the great children's stories)
National Insurance Awareness Day
National Alaska Day
*** Next up, and because the weekend's here, let's see what we can observe over the following 48 hours...
JUNE 29 -
National Camera Day
(a picture is worth a thousand words)
National Waffle Iron Day
(doing it "old school")
National Almond Buttercrunch Day
JUNE 30 -
National Meteor Watch Day
(just watch out for the BIG ones)
Social Media Day
(that's every day, unfortunately)
National OOTD Day
(outfit of the day, in case you were wondering)
There you go...lots to do to keep you out of the pokey. Just remember to always observe responsibly...
*** Next... Police arrest victim and charge him with murder:
https://www.wane.com/top-stories/second-victim-in-weekend-shooting-charged-with-murder/
Amiracle Phifer...LOL...whatta name!
This 23-year old POS shows up at hospital with a bullet wound to the chest and thinks no one's gonna wonder HOW that happened (especially after a shooting death minutes before)?
Dumbass of the Week? Sure seems like "a miracle" in the making.
*** Next up...Are these major drug busts doing some good? Let's find out:
https://wpta21.com/news/top-stories/2019/06/27/taking-inventory-of-whether-fbi-drug-raids-can-make-a-dent-in-citys-violent-crime/
On the whole, I would agree, but there comes this "void" in the supply and demand aspect which craves to be filled with (who else?) more drug dealers and their subordinates.
And that alone will breed more violent crime.
Whatever good is done can be easily undone unless the pressure can be maintained on these pushers, and, like the story says...it costs money.
*** Next...Maybe it IS okay to have an older car?
https://wpta21.com/news/top-stories/2019/06/27/have-an-old-car-youre-not-alone-vehicle-age-hits-record/
The "Batmobile" - soon to be 36 years old.
Yeah, but the difficult thing is trying to find replacement PARTS when needed, because, we all know that things DO wear out.
And such costs are traditionally HIGHER (than in decades past). The typical "inventory" for parts that older cars would require is about TEN YEARS.
After that, you play the "hunting game".
I agree that repair shops might be seeing a potential gold mine with these statistics...and maybe they should cater to folks with older cars.
We don't call them "classics" for nothing, do we?
*** Next up...We're also at THAT time of year again...
https://wpta21.com/news/top-stories/2019/06/27/air-quality-action-day-declared-due-to-low-air-quality-3/
It's time for "poor air quality", and you know they SHOULD include a "caveat" of sorts.
The problem with the air isn't just due to emissions, or particular matter, or even "climate change". It's due to high OZONE levels, which cause people with respiratory conditions to have trouble breathing properly.
Funny, I like ozone, especially during a thunderstorm...gives the air a sweet smell. Don'r recall folks breathing poorly when those conditions exist.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozone
Portable ozone generator
Actually, there are consumer products that PRODUCE ozone as an air purifier and sanitizer in homes. It's also used in hot tubs to kill bacteria.
*** Next...The local SPCA (down the street from us) had some A/C problems:
https://www.wane.com/top-stories/allen-co-spca-calls-on-publics-help-after-ac-unit-breaks/
The old central unit gave up the ghost after 20 years, and help was needed to get them a new one. The cost is about $7.5K.
The public stepped up and actually exceeded the total.
((“In three hours, 265 donors pitched in to help replace the AC unit in our kennels by collectively donating $9,572.10! THANK YOU, from the bottom of our hearts!”))
Now THAT's the way to end a bad day!
*** Next up, it's time to drop by our "Kitten Corner"...
:Wha'cha doing' down there?"
The kids did fine, and didn't want to get into trouble, which is always a welcome thing.
"Whaddya think? I'm lookin' outside."
Since we didn't hit the grocery last week, grub is running low, but we'll take care that tomorrow.
It'll be good to restock the pantry, and I'm sure the cats will be just as pleased.
*** Next...let's do our last check in this week with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Our furry duo were trying their best to deal with the heat.
"Too hot to do much of anything."
I have to say they find places of shade throughout the day, and I know being "on the move"  must be tiring.
"I know EXACTLY what you mean."
Midnight still takes patrols, but they're shorter in duration (smart boy), and Whiskers just hunkers down and naps a good part of the day away. but they are always there for the major meals (and the evening treats).
On fact, after dinner, Whiskers parks on the back steps (making sure she gets a "good seat").
*** Last back to the lawn sprinkler...I was amazed at how fast people came to the aid of the local SPCA.
Goes to show that charity is still very much alive and doing well.
Now, anyone who wants to equate this to our southern border situation in any way is not seeing the whole picture.
What we have down there is basically an invasion. What else would you call tens of thousands who enter our country illegally EVERY year for the last 6+ decades?
Sometimes, you need more than just a fence.
If WE tried that with another nation, we'd be accused of fomenting open war with that nation.
Sorry, but for me, it's hard to be charitable to lawbreakers. They KNOW what they're doing. It's not like they can't help themselves, is it? It comes down to making a bad choice, and I don't wish their decisions to be hung over my head like some sword of Damocles.
Truth be told, we are a VERY charitable people. Look at all we GIVE to other nations (who don't even comenear our borders at all).
We provide food, water, and other forms of aid whenever there is a catastrophe...that's what we do.
We likewise do the same HERE in the USofA, often without a second thought.
I find it virtuous to be charitable whenever we can, but I don't believe we should become anyone's doormat in the process, to be taken advantage of BECAUSE of our charity.
That opens the door to apathy. And we see what that's like all too often.
We're better than that...or we should be.
Therein lies the lesson for the day.
Do have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

We'll see you here next month.

Very good post. It says a lot of thoughts I have. "I don't wish their decisions to be hung over my head like some sword of Damocles." That's the truth.

I know there are some days when I don't want MY decisions hung over my own head.
Hopefully, we make the best decisions we can as often AS we can.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Have yourself a good weekend.

Be well (and keep cool) out there.

Actually, I did! Wild weekend with work And a co-worker's birthday bash- and the requisite recovery. But here at last...

You should also know, speaking of work, that the cutter's side of the building lost its AC Friday night. Not bad for me Saturday, but terrible for Gwen on 2nd both days.

Yeah, I saw that about the car ages. Ours is on the line... only because yours is skewing it so bad, lol...

Chris:
At least you weren't Walmart-hopping for something you couldn't find.
I've worked in such buildings that didn't even HAVE any A/C...I think I've a good idea of what Hades might be like...sorry, no thanks.
Well, SOMEONE'S gotta skew the stats once in a while...right? Might as well be me...LOL.

(BTW, your co-worker Connie seems to have MOVED...the house was up for RENT again. Our block not good enough? Wonder how she and her daughter like their new digs?)

Thanks for swinging by to comment.

Stay safe up there, brother.

Not surprised on Connie... after Tim left for Lippert, she and a couple others joined him, prompting Dowco to remind us they could sue us for doing what they all did. (In fact, Tim was with us Saturday, and told us that he was going to turn Lippert down b/c of the lawsuit threat. But the owner told him, "Let them sue. WE'LL pay for everything.") So I imagine Connie found something closer to K-Ville. (She was there to, btw. A good time was had by all.)

Chris:
Interesting thing with the workplace.
What I saw about Connie didn't concern me.
The "boyfriend" and HIS friends DID, however.
I guess the former Wifeymobile (96 Caprice) he had is still running (looking a lot worse than we owned it).
Somehow, I had a feeling she would not last around here.
(the ones that do remain have their own issues with what it means to live in a residential area (and hot a barrio or ghetto).
To each their own.
I'm not changing for them.
They can move, because I won't.
