It's looking like one of "those" days outside...kinda cloudy, increasing humidity and reason to take the umbrella with you.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us partly cloudy skies (big surprise), some rain in the morning, and then a lull before we get more rain sometime this afternoon. Highs today will hit the lower 80s (too warm for my linking).
And yes, it will feel muggy out there (just not the type of ":muggy" we have on the SE side streets with being assaulted).
Now, let's get a tall cool refreshing drink to get us started, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the rooftop is our WHO SAID THAT? quote for the week:
"There is nothing wrong with America that faith, love of freedom, intelligence, and energy of her citizens cannot cure"
I think the person who said this is not only correct, but a bit prophetic, considering that in today's world, we seem to need such facets of our nation's people in greater abundance.
So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back in York, Pennsylvania...
*** Next up is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JUNE 5 -
National Gingerbread Day
(Another taste I really like)
National Moonshine Day
(and it's a good paint remover)
National Veggie Burger Day
(no---effing---way...period!)
National Running Day
(car's running, so I don't have to, right?)
*** Next...time for "Our Daily Shooting"...
https://wpta21.com/news/2019/06/04/police-shots-fired-outside-of-downtown-restaurant/
Now, it's getting "close to City Hall", isn't it, Mr Mayor?
This took place around 1400 hrs yesterday in the 400 block of E. Lewis Street, near the Lewis Street Grill and the FWCS auto shop.
(what?. you can't grab a meal or brew without a side of bullets?)
Luckily (for a change) there was no report of injuries (one vehicle was shot up but is in stable condition...heh), and police ARE looking for a suspect.
*** Next up...Science Central funding gets the "put off" from City Council:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20190605/science-centrals-request-put-off
Sure, don't even bother giving this facility HALF of what it wants (a mere $250K out of a total of $500K) for a PLANETARIUM.
Better to dump MILLIONS into downtown, the riverfront, and Electric Works for more places to eat and get drunk, rather than pursue education.
Makes perfect sense to this person.
Who needs knowledge anyway? Obviously NOT those on City Council.
*** Next, time to once again stop by "Kitten Corner"...
The children were once again well-behaved and did not take to any of the typical craziness that goes one when they have little to do. Actually, they both enjoyed some take it easy time, and you will not hear me complain about that at all.
A close up NOT on daddy's chest. |
(sure beats sitting in my chair, and having my legs fall asleep when she gets on my lap.
A close up ON daddy's chest. |
We have patience...we can wait.
*** Next up, let's do our daily check-in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Our furry twosome were close to "home" all day, and that means no one missed a meal (although I had no immediate takers for lunch. They did nibble at it later on.
He likes the "carpeted" chair now. |
I'll be watching that carefully.
And she likes dining on the carpet. |
She'll go into a shelter, while he is liking the carpeted patio chairs.
The cat's there every afternoon. |
*** Last back to the basement...humans are the oddest creatures on our planet.
And I say this with no reservation at all.
We are the only species that makes the choice to prey on one another and not out of instinct or survival.
And, we never seem to be at a loss as to how to take life...war has seen to that over the centuries of history.
Tomorrow marks the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion of Europe by allied forces, and that's a day we should always remember.
Granted, the axis powers seemed to be on a roll, as the Nazis and fascists took over most of Europe, but it was our decision to see it would only not go any farther, but to turn back those powers and allow freedom to return to the countries that were denied them by occupational forces of evil.
Today, we still face evil, and need to be on guard so that it never has a place to call home.
I do believe that good will conquer evil...it always should.
Mankind needs to learn that lesson perhaps above all others, and being reminded of what's expected of every one of us in this fight is as fine a start as any.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Well, so far any rain has been only a "Catholic baptism". That and about 4 rolls of thunder.
Quote: Not enough have the first, not enough understand the second, the third is dropping like a beauty contest with Joe Biden judging, and too much of the last is woefully misapplied.
Good paint remover... hee hee!
VegBurgers: Tried 'em for a while... nothing to write home for. Turkey is a better alternative if that's your thing.
Running: Now there where your NFW comment needs to go...
SC: Agreed. Why put money to work productively when you can fund a boondoggle?
Midnight: At least he doesn't come home torn to shreds like our Snoopy used to...
I saw a D-Day fun fact: The HMS Belfasts covering fire was so fierce they cracked their own toilet bowels....
Chris:
---That's more than I saw and heard down here!
---Pretty good call on today's world and the quote. "Plugs" as judge...LOL.
---white lightning strikes again.
---Turkey is my ONLY alternative when Thanksgiving comes around.
---City Council always manages to surprise us (and waste money).
---I think his pad might be hurting him (I could use an Androcles to check that out)
---Now THAT sure had the sailors on that ship running to find an "alternative" (probably went to METAL commodes after that).
Thank you fr stooping by and commenting.
Stay safe (with NO cracked toilets) up there, brother.
