If you prefer your day to start on the cloudy side, then today will work out for you just fine.
We might even be able to eek out some sunshine later on (how much later, is anyone's guess)..
The sun is trying to come out this morning.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us windy conditions, partly cloudy skies (changing over to partly sunny by this afternoon) and temps reaching the 70 degree mark (not much change from this morning, really).
Now, let's all get a nice comforting drink to begin the day, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the wet grass is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JUNE 10 -
National Egg Roll Day
(I could go for a half dozen of them right now)
National Ballpoint Pen Day
(BIC made out like gangbusters with those)
National Iced Tea Day
(got this one covered)
National Black Cow Day
(might have to pass on this)
National Herbs and Spices Day
(making foods taste better since the dawn of mankind)
*** Next up...the Canterbury Green Apartments have themselves an attacker:
https://wpta21.com/news/2019/06/08/woman-says-man-attacked-and-zip-tied-her-outside-her-fort-wayne-apartment-leaves-neighbor-worrying-about-their-safety/
Well, here we go again with people being assaulted at apartment complexes.
Seems we go through spurts of these every year.
Could it be the "subsidized housing" crowd causing the stir?
If not, then it might be "visitors" who frequent the complex.
Either way, it's not a good sign.
That kinda screws things up for REGULAR folks living there, doesn't it?
The neighbors SHOULD worry about their safety.
This city is getting worse and yet, little coverage about this stuff.
*** Next...Sunday's J-G had a decent editorial which barely scratches the surface of all the underlying problems.
http://www.journalgazette.net/opinion/editorials/20190609/united-effort-to-better-life-for-black-men
((Analysis of 2016 FBI statistics by the Violence Policy Center found the state has the fifth-highest rate of black homicide victimization in the nation.))
Imagine that.
((“When, as a society we get comfortable with individuals being shot and their lives being snuffed out because of conflict, because of gangs, because of drugs, because of the clothes that they have on, it really shows a societal problem,” says Iric Headley of Fort Wayne United.))
And he's right, but it's not only the "desensitization" of society, but the unwillingness of the black community ITSELF to call out these perps whenever they create chaos. How many times do we hear about uncooperative witnesses (or victims) and the whole "we din see nuffin" mentality at work after a homicide?
Try starting with THAT first.
*** Next up...looks like the Fort Wayne Air Show (that I didn't attend) was a rousing success. Like we'd think otherwise?
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20190608/thousands-marvel-at-historic-planes-dazzling-performances-at-fort-wayne-air-show
It wasn't a total loss for me, though. I DID hear the Thunderbirds flying (never saw any of them - the overcast was low on Sunday), and I DID see that B-17G they had at the show.
Actually, I saw it BOTH days.
Missed it by THAT much. |
It overflew the house at less than 1000 ft, and that was very cool.
That's better, Bob. |
Much better, except for the overcast. |

*** Next...time to stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
Another rare "two-fer". |
Violet took to the couch and instead of moving her so I could sleep there, I chose to TRY to sleep on HALF a couch - NOT the best idea I've had of late.
Talk about an aching back the next morning, but I couldn't move her. She was asleep and too cute.
Wifey asked why I didn't use the bed upstairs or the couch in the living room...okay, didn't think of that...next time.
Where Gallifrey slept...I've no clue. Wasn't with us..
Other than that, it was as normal a weekend as the cats could have (even with just me there...lol).
*** Next up, let's start our weekly check-in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
They wouldn't miss this for the world. |
Midnight still has that limp, but he will put weight on the paw, so it's NOT getting worse.
"Saturday was fine, so we dine al fresco" |
"I know a good thing when I see it." |
Even that fluffy cat has it's time to hang around, but since it runs off every time I go out, there's no need to coax it back for eats.
Can't see why people would turn out such nice animals.
*** Last back to the fun factory...Wifey is due back home later this afternoon, and that will be good to have her back.
You get comfortable when any home has it's specific number of warm bodies within, and it gets real big real fast whenever the count if "off".
And, even though I was an only child (Wifey was too), I was never THAT much of a "loner". Yet, I didn't NEED a group of others to make me feel wanted. My parents took good care of that.
There is a difference between ALONE and LONELY.
Our family was small, and we had our share of pets, so that took up a lot of the slack. Plus, I made friends easily both in and out of school, so that wasn't a problem either.
What was rough was when we moved around (this was before high school), and had to leave friends behind.
I often wonder what's become of them. I do have one dear high school buddy that I STILL keep in touch with, but that's about it. Life's funny that way; you never know how many people who have touched your life (and you theirs) until you get older and start taking a head count.
Hopefully, you came away from all of that a better individual, and maybe they did too.
Some day, I think we all might just find out.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

BOOO Iced tea!
YAY Black cow!
CG has been bad for some time. Treumper Way is always first up on my Crime Report page.
Iric and you are dead right. How do we make people care about life again?
Sorry you didn't get to catch the show. I just shrug and say, "I don't like crowds anyway."
Chris:
---Whaddya mean BOO to iced tea???
(well most of them DO suck, but plain old SWEET tea or Rush Revere's Raspberry iced tea is FANTASTIC!
---Didn't have either chocolate ice cream OR root beer this week.
---CG is getting the reputation it deserves, and through NO fault of the good folks still living there. That's a damn shame, too.
---When DEATH become cheap (and accepted), how can LIFE have ANY meaning to these people?
I guess that's the question we should be asking.
---Agreed on the crowds...and the heat...and the walking (talk about covering several MILES in an afternoon).
I'd pretty much go there to see the "warbirds"...nothing like the planes from WW2 to get my pulse pounding. Feel like a kid again...heh.
Thanks for taking time to drop by and comment today.
Stay safe up there, brother.
