Okay, so yesterday was NOT a comfortable day if you spent ANY time outside.
And today will not be any better. You can bank on that.
About 22 states are going through this heatwave, so at least we're NOT alone.
Our Hoosierland weather for today will bring us plenty of HOT, and HUMID, temps again rising into the low 90s (heat index in triple digits), and not much else, so be careful if you're out in this .
Now THIS is hot. |
So, let's start the day with a glass, or mug of Friday Fortitude (add some ice), as we see what else has been going on...
*** First up, time for the "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JULY 19 -
National Daiquiri Day
(nice and chilled)
*** Since we're at week's end, let's see what we can observe over the following 48 hours...
JULY 20 -
National Moon Day
(Fifty years since man first set foot on the lunar surface)
National Lollipop Day
(what about those all-day suckers?)
National Pennsylvania Day
National Strawberry Rhubarb Wine Day
JULY 21 -
National Junk Food Day
National Be Someone Day
I'm busy being myself)
National Ice Cream Day
(eat it indoors. It'll last longer)
*** Here's ONE way to get a "police presence" in our area:
https://www.wane.com/news/crime/fort-wayne-police-presence-at-fairfax-and-bowser/
Yep...have someone call in a "disturbance". This took place before 0900 hrs at a house near the intersection of Bowser and E. Fairfax St..
Up to TWENTY FWPD vehicles were there, including SWAT.
(ala Darth Vader - "...Impressive...most impressive".)
That explains WHY it was SO damn quiet around here yesterday morning.
This is within a 1/4 mile of the "Fortress".
And yes, the video looks as though at least one black male was hauled in.
Like to have that many officers around here ALL the damn time.
*** Or, you can always resort to "Our Daily Shooting":
https://www.wane.com/news/crime/police-investigate-shooting-and-crash-near-southgate-plaza/
This took place (again) not that far from us at near the Southgate Plaza in the 200 block of E. Pettit Av around 2150 hrs.
Looks like the "locals" are getting back to their usual "game".
Both males involved are black (one being an out-of-town FUGITIVE).
Sure glad that Ten-Point Coaltion is doing their job...(yeah, right).
*** Let's stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
We're glad we're not outside. |
Yes...we are. |
Can't have everything...right?
*** Time to check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Keeping cool in the garden |
That tells you it's got to be hot out.
"Patrol in THIS heat? Are you nits?" |
"I'm so happy the water in the bowl is cool." |
*** Last up...I remember hot days when I was a child...days where you waited for the milk man to drive up the street and hand you a HUGE chunk of (crystal clear) ice to suck on.
Refrigerated trucks were not yet widespread, even in Philly.
And there was the fire hydrant that someone would open for kids.
They had METAL BLADES, too! |
Everyplace else, they used fans, too.
But, through all that, we managed to survive.
Cars didn't have A/C (unless it was a top end model, and that tech was in it's infancy).
Mom would powder the bed at night (to keep from sticking to the sheets).
I know that these days, I'm liking summer less and less.
Life can be uncomfortable enough (at times) with all the things we have to deal with daily, so why try to add to it
Let's just remember that our current state will not be our permanent state.
We can thank God for that, friends.
Do have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.
See 'ya next week.

Okay, let's skip the daqs... I still have some Shiner Bock in the fridge...
Rhubarb wine... Dad made that
Ice Cream... could use some right now...
Shootings: They can make all the coalitions they want. The thugs never join...
Poor kitties... I feel for them.
I remember before AC, trying to sleep downstairs, or in the bathtub... never enough fans when the air stops and turns polluted...
I wish I could do more than just let you guys know my sympathies are with you for Don. I know know four people (including myself) who lost a best friend in the last couple of months. This year really sucks. I'm ready to turn the page now.
Chris:
Isn't it a tad early for "bock"? Thought was traditionally a fall brew.
I hope that wine tasted okay.
I could use a soaking in a VAT of it...heh.
I know. I guess some folks never figure out that you can only preach to the choir for SO long.
It's going to take some TOUGH action to rid us all of this human blight.
Yeah, they're more lethargic than usual (for cats), but mealtime wakes them up for a while.
That was the only trouble with fans. You have the windows open sucking in somewhat "cool" air, and then some god-awful smell comes wafting in...ARGH!
My dear friend...just KNOWING who you both are and that you HAVE taken your concerns and prayers before the Lord (in our time of sorrow) makes me proud that God brought us all together.
Guess you can say "It is well with my soul".
Thank you so very much.
And thanks for stopping by to comment..
Have yourselves a good weekend.
Stay safe and stay cool up there, brother.
Poor kitties. Mine are too hot. The alley cats are sleeping under my cars and I think I need to put out water for all the ferals. Keep taking good car of your troops, Bob!
Momma Fargo:
Yeah, the cats are always trying to find the BEST shady spots with that hasty hot weather.
A bowl of cool water works wonders for the kids. I keep ours in the shade and change it out a couple times a day. Nobody drink dirty or warm water HERE (no matter HOW many feet 'ya got)...heh.
We take care of the cats quite well...and always will.
Thanks for rolling up to comment.
Stay safe down there, dear.
