Humpday Happenings...
They said it would get warmer...and today, it surely will.
This will be one of those "am I living on the equator?" days.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us plenty of hot and humid, with partly sunny skies, temps rising to (at least) the 90 degree mark, and if you can find a breeze, hang onto it. A chance of rain tonight...maybe.
Now, let's start the day with a cool drink, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the hotplate is the "WHO SAID THAT?" quote for the week:
"The principles of living greatly include the capacity to face trouble with courage, disappointment with cheerfulness, and trial with humility."
I think this covers so much of our own lives, mainly because many of us face these things. Life is like that...an ongoing test of ourselves.
So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at Salt Lake City, Utah...
*** Next...time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JULY 10 -
National Clerihew Day
(it's a poem thing)
National Pina Colada Day
(I could go for a big tall one right about now)
*** Next up...Finally, FTW is good for SOMETHING:
https://wpta21.com/news/top-stories/2019/07/09/fort-wayne-recognised-as-a-pet-friendly-city/
We (and 24 other cities) have been recognized as a pet-friendly city.
Also ALIEN-friendly
Now, all we have to do is tell THAT to the animal abusers we (still) have in our city.
*** Next...Kevin Leininger's latest column:
https://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local-news/2019/07/09/kevin-leininger-countys-effort-to-regulate-sexually-oriented-businesses-may-see-city-try-again/
Personally, the whole sex-oriented business thing can be dialed back a bit. We've enough incentives for the pervs and dumbasses out there already.
Even strip joints aren't what THEY used to be either, I'd wager.
(One might argue the presence of the Internet and IT'S impact on sexual deviancy).
*** Next up...The end of an era. The last VW "Beetle" rolls off the assembly line (not in Germany, but in Mexico).
https://www.npr.org/2019/07/09/739865991/the-last-vw-beetle-rolls-off-the-assembly-line-in-mexico-tomorrow
Here's the WIKI on the automobile:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Beetle
And, some more history HERE:
https://www.vwheritage.com/beetle-history

The "original" version
Not bad for "The People's Car" -  a Nazi KDF "ploy" that fleeced German citizens of their money to fund Hitler's war machine.
Kubelwagen - German version of a jeep.

Schwimmwagen - amphibious version
Actually, it was the Brits (post war) that got the VW (bug) off the ground as a viable car that people COULD afford.
The Volkswagen "Thing".
The model 411
The model 412
The Microbus aka "The Hippy-Hauler".

And they had a good run for many decades with some decent models.
And the rather cool Karmann Ghia
But the company will be replacing it with...(you guessed it)...ANOTHER damn crossover SUV.
Like we need any more of those (wannabe) "trucks".
*** Next... time to drop by our "Kitten Corner"..
"Wow...a whole lotta nothin' going' on."
Our kids were doing well, and spent part of the day watching the world go by.
One might think everyone's in a hurry, with the way they break the law speeding up and down our (narrow) streets.
Maybe the cats were watching to see if any police showed up (two chances of that - slim and none).
The late night fireworks didn't help much to keep them calm, either (yes, we STILL have them down here).
Technically, fireworks season is OVER, but down here...a couple more weeks.
*** Next up...Let's check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
"Ahh...nice and peaceful for a change."
Our furry duo spent most all day nearby the house, and that's fine.
"I know. I'm liking this."
Naturally they were sleeping during lunch (no big deal). But they gather early enough for dinner and back step treats.
"I agree with both of you."
And Caruso is here every day now, but he also misses lunch (that's okay).
I'm sure his fur coat works well in winter, but he just plops down in this heat. Can't say I blame him at all.
*** Last back to the sweatbox...just like I always have said...things change constantly, and usually not for the greater good, because we can't keep up.
Sure, we have "advances" in medicine, technology, and such, but is the human condition actually getting any better as a result?
I'm just not seeing the evidence.
It would appear that the more we embrace the tech, the more immoral mankind is becoming.
Then, there are those who flaunt their ignorance in spite of everything. We call them criminals.
Yes, from the murderers right on down to the ice cream lickers, as well as those who love to break out in fights in public places, just because they cannot (or will not) control their bestial behavior.
Funny, I thought education was another aspect of PROGRESS in our society...it would seem that assumption is highly misplaced.
I'm sorry, but to live in a better world requires each of us to become better people.
To settle for less shows that some might not be prepared for today's world.
In some cases, The quote above from Alphonse Karr nailed it.
It shouldn't have to be that way if we're supposed to be moving forward...right?
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

I'm here while scouting new material for future M10s... new Alkonost this week!

Equator is right... not even thinking of going outside...

Quote: Working so hard on that...

Clerihew... a fancy name for nonsense...

Pet-friendly: Well, if you judge by places to live and doggie parks, I'd say we do well...

Bug: Yeah, I noted the SUV part of that story. The same reason radio sucks anymore- you try variety and the ratings go down. Too many cookie cutter people out there. Aren't you glad you got me for new music stuff?

Saw a meme abt pets and fireworks: picture of a bird dog, text: Your dog ran and hid from fireworks? Mine searched the house for dead ducks!

"I'm sorry, but to live in a better world requires each of us to become better people." And that means a lot more mirror and a lot less finger pointing. Being responsible for yourself is the lost art.

Brother, is IS oppressively HOT outside today!
The slight breeze only served to move the heat around...no relief.
As are a lot of us, my friend.
Pretty much. A national day for nonsense...who knew?
Overall, I would agree. I'm just not good with all those abusers out there. That takes away from the PLUS-COLUMN.
Seriously. I've found a LOT of new groups on the MTM.
Only stations I listen to is classical (the REAL oldies...lol) or talk radio.
Yeah...too much cookie-cutter EVERYTHING...housing, malls, clothing, cable/sat channels, automobiles (vehicles in general) radio stations, eateries, politics, and dare I say it...even religion.
It might be comfortable at the time, but there is always a price to pay later.
That's one of the "nicer" memes out there w/ pets & fireworks. I saw some that were heart-wrenching.
That phrase just came to me (wonder who from?), and yes, many out there need to spend some "quality" time in a "house of mirrors", and stop finger-pointing.
I'm starting to think along those lines (lost art), but I'll take it one step further. It SHOULD be classified a SUPER POWER (because of it's rarity...heh.)
(Let's form a "Hall of Justice"...HA!)

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Stay safe (and stay INSIDE) up there, brother.
(it's TOO effin' HOT)

The animal abuse in our city is awful, I have been volunteering at Animal Care and Control since June 2010 when I graduated high school, still love to cuddle with the cats, hold them, still volunteer as "cat socializer" will be coming on a decade, I'm so old!

When the citilink access picked me up from a place I go on Wednesday to take me to work at Kroger Chestnut Plaza they had others to pick up on your part of town, it is so quiet out in your area traffic wise compared to here at the corner of Scott and Illinois road!

The Walgreens in your area looks cool and vintage compared to Chestnut Plaza, you certainly have some neat old looking houses in your area as well! out here it's pretty new and boring. can't imagine what it looked like 20 to 22 years ago when my parents bought this house, when I was a toddler!

Good for you for your volunteer work. I get too attached to do that . The "community cat" gig works for me.
"Cat Socializer"...I like that.
And you're not old...just a "seasoned veteran".
It was QUIET in our part of town???
You MUST have rolled through before 11 AM...LOL. (that's when the mooks fall outta bed).
Less traffic = no one works (around here). They're all rental welfare grabbers.
The closest Walgreens to us (Southgate Plaza) has been CLOSED for a couple years. You must have seen another one. And yes, the houses (that have NOT been trashed by those mentioned above)) are unique in construction, especially along N. Anthony Blvd and west over by Calhoun St. Much of my area housing is either pre or post WW2. Still kinda nice and quaint.
The newer houses are all "cookie-cutter" to me...same stuff every block. It IS boring (and costs more)

Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting.
(keep up the volunteer work).

And stay safe out there.
