Humpday Happenings...
Well, after hearing the Prez speak to the reporters and the nation last night, I feel SO much better...NOT!
I'm not going to belabor things, except to say that the next few years will be one helluva bumpy ride for us all.
With that aside, let's take a gander into what ELSE is going on in our city.
** From the Follow-Up File:
The recent shooting of a 28 year old woman in the 1000 blk of Milton street has prompted a look into what transpired BEFORE the shooting occurred.
As I posted here yesterday, police had been called to the house SEVERAL times before the actual shooting took place.
Here is a link to the News-Sentinel story (and it's a damn good read - highly recommended):

Okay, so it's not a drug house (that we know of), but it IS (apparently) a "party house", and that brings it's own set of problems along with it.
I know about those FIRST-HAND.
And Ms Lee (the victim) has had her share of run-ins with police for battery, disorderly conduct and public intoxication, but she's "a good person" after all, right? Neighbors are quick to chime in that the area is a "quiet neighborhood", and too many times, that is SO misleading, but since people in OUR part of town LOVE to "stretch the truth" (read lie their asses off), the media reports what was said...period.
Yes, the police were called FOUR times that night (to the house) WITHIN AN HOUR, and YES this was the 4th shooting on that block since last June, so YOU do the math about this neighborhood and make your own (correct) conclusions about it.
One thing you can ALWAYS count on in THIS part of Fort Wayne: NOTHING is as it seems, and there is ALWAYS "more to the story".
** From the Keep 'em at Arm's length File:
Man shot in arm
A man said he was shot in the arm while driving eastbound on Pettit Avenue around 3:45 p.m. Sunday.
Jahan J. Jones said he had just crossed Hanna Street when he was wounded in the left arm, according to Fort Wayne Police Officer Benjamin Sloan's incident report. Sloan wrote that he found bullet holes in the front windshield and front passenger quarter panel above the steering wheel.
Jones, who drove to St. Joseph Hospital, said he was randomly shot at, but police suspect he took part in a gun battle. Sloan wrote that he found two shell casings on the floor of the passenger seat of Jones' car.
(Oops, looks like Mr. Jones might not be telling the truth...'YA THINK?)
Then again, it makes one wonder when you can't drive along the streets down here in MID-AFTERNOON...on a frigging SUNDAY at that!
Seems we have the WRONG PEOPLE with guns, and it's not the GUN'S fault. It's always the PEOPLE!
** From the Here We Go Again File:
1 dead, another in critical condition in South Harrison shooting
Fort Wayne police were investigating what they said was an apparent fatal shooting late Tuesday on South Harrison Street.
A 911 call to police just after midnight Tuesday reported gun shots in the area, police spokesman Officer R.J. Sutphin said.
When police arrived in the 2200 block of South Harrison Street, they found a green Chevrolet Impala in an alley with a body inside, Sutphin said. The victim, a male, had apparently been shot, police said.
A second male was taken from the scene to a hospital in critical condition from apparent gunshot wounds, Sutphin said.
No other information was available about the two victims, who police believe were adults, and a description of the suspect was not available. A police dog was being used to search the area, Sutphin said.
At least it's not on the SOUTHEAST SIDE...it's barely on the SOUTHWEST side, but we take our "victories" wherever we get 'em these days, right? And the car was found in the ALLEY. What was I saying about having police patrol our ALLEYS as well as the streets?
Seems that would be a GOOD TREND to follow.
I know that signs are posted that read NO THRU TRAFFIC at the alley entrances, but apparently, no one around here can frigging READ, as they use the alleys for "just another street".
** From the Get Your Glass In Gear File:
It would appear that we have a rash of broken auto glass around the N/E section of the city. For the past 4 nights, the FWPD has fielded calls from citizens reporting vehicle glass being "shot out". Now the police haven't found any shell casings, BBs or pellets at the scenes, and are wondering if a "window punch" was being used to accomplish the vandalism.
In any case, people out there need to be ON GUARD for ANY suspicious activity, whether it's on foot, on a bike, or in a vehicle. Take down descriptions, plate numbers (where applicable) and get that info into the FWPD if you want to make a difference and get these vandals off the damn streets.
Looks like nothing but "fun" around here these days...
And that's the GOOD news.
That damn economy...causing people, to act all STUPID and shit.
You'd think folks would be MORE CONCERNED with making ends meet, putting food on the table, seeking gainful employment (if such a thing still exists outside of any form of government), and raising their children with a sense of purpose...a sense of ethics, and a sense of morality.
But hey, it's all about entertainment to some degree, right?
Someday soon, I think a lot of people will be rethinking THAT mindset, as well they should.
We can but hope.
Stay safe out there, America.
