Reality (really) Bites...
There are a few items that demand attention this morning, so pull the chair a bit closer, and pour another cup of "Joe", and get ready to toss open that window and exclaim: "I'm madder than hell, and I'm not going to take it any longer". Fair enough?
** A Fort Wayne woman remains in critical condition after being shot in the face Sunday.
Here's are links to the story from both local papers:

Now, you have to understand a few things about the "locals" around the S/E part of this city.
They obviously didn't hold much regard for the police when they came to quiet them down (THREE TIMES), or they would have shut the f$ck up the FIRST time, and taken their "party" INDOORS, right?
I've been privy to such parties over the years, and I can tell you they are like bloody marathons!
Sure, let's see HOW LONG we can party, and how many normal residents we can piss the hell off. Screw them, we wanna be entertained, and the longer and louder...the better.
Yes, I've seen that play out ALL too often, and too many times, the police can only attempt to cajole these idiots into compliance. I say arrest their sorry asses, conduct a damn search of the house for illegal drugs or underage drinking, and call it a night.
But then again, IF these people KNEW what the hell it means to be a citizen that has a modicum of RESPECT for something or someone ELSE, they wouldn't be acting like the fools they apparently are, would they?
These are the people that have NO sense of personal responsibility. They are the ones that witness a shooting, and then suddenly develop a short-term memory lapse when the police question them. They live for the moment. And I'd really like to pity them, but having others pity them for decades is what GOT them into the predicament they find themselves. It's the whole "hand-holding" thing I mentioned in previous posts.
Time to end the pity-party, I say. Start acting normal you morons, or join the frigging circus!

** The Renaissance Pointe "project" has hit a bit of a snag.
Here's the link to the article:
http://news-sentinel.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090323/NEWS/903230311
Seems that someone (the community at large) doesn't like the idea of having 50 "renters" in their midst, and who can blame them?
Renters are NOT the people they USED to be.
I know, because until I was a freshman in high school, MY family rented houses. Dad simply couldn't afford to BUY a house until 1965. He just didn't want to financially strap the family should some unforeseen problem arise. It's called PRIORITIES in life.
Most everyone we knew didn't even KNOW we were "renters"...Mom took care of things that well.
Mom was old-fashioned...she believed there was NO EXCUSE for NOT treating someone else's house as YOUR OWN, which meant there was a level of RESPECT attached to things. You didn't trash the place simply because YOU didn't OWN it. You behaved responsibly...or else.
Can't say that happens all that much THESE days, can we?
I look around my neighborhood, and see ALL the houses that, a mere 12 years ago were nice, OWNED properties. Now, they're all rentals, as the transient population will attest to. And the houses themselves are showing signs of neglect. Well, we can blame that on these deadbeat landlords, can't we? All they sees are dollar signs, and perform as little maintenance as possible.
You can usually spot the renters that have no respect for where they live...repairmen are at the place on a regular basis.
Like I say...a LOT has changed in just over a decade.
Can Renaissance Pointe become the "jewel in the crown" that the city wants it to become?
Don't think so...too many problems associated with the area and it's residents, and that doesn't include the bordering areas, which are still replete with drug use, and other assorted criminal mischief.
If the Black community wants to make a go of it, more power to them. Be nice to see them deal with their OWN kind for a change, instead of blaming everyone ELSE for the problems THEY are saddled with because of their OWN people.
The one thing that is troubling, is that with NO renters going into this project, they will inevitably meander farther south...into MY area. And that's the LAST thing I need right now (as do the few that feel likewise).
I have more than enough targets to go around.
Maybe I just need more ammo?

** Lastly, I wanted to mention the four Oakland Police officers killed in the line of duty (one still on life-support) this past weekend. The slain officers wer (top row) Sgt. Dan Sakai, Sgt. Mark Dunakin, (bottom row) Sgt. Erv Romans, and Officer John Hege.
Here's are links to this story:

Here is a group of related stories:
http://www.insidebayarea.com/news/oakland-police-shooting
I advise that you DO read these stories, as they will speak volumes!
Now my feelings about this heinous act committed by a severely socially-impaired individual are straight as an arrow.
This perp should NOT have gotten out on parole.
That alone would have saved four families a LOT of heartache.
The shooter's relatives pull out the old victicratic mentality with "He was trying to get his life together" bullshit. Yeah, well he didn't "try" all that damn much, did he? Probably was too busy doing the "party circuit" to wonder WHY he can't get a damn job.
Mr. Mixson DID manage to get himself a nice 1995 Buick Park Avenue with HUGE rims. I suppose he had to look "good", as he went on the job interviews...(rolls eyes)...yeah, right.
This jerk had a rap sheet that was as long as your damn arm, and he was KNOWN to be violent in nature from past arrests. And yet...the flawed judicial system of this nation saw fit to release this animal BACK onto the streets of Oakland, just so he could meet his destiny by shooting four police officers.
The officers were shot and three were killed as a result of a "routine" stop.
Nothing in police work is EVER "routine"...let that much be KNOWN.
A Philly PD officer was shot in the head as he sat at an intersection years ago. You may recall the Mumia Abu Jamal case (in 1981) where Officer Daniel Faulkner was killed..."routine" doesn't begin to cover that incident, and that was quite a few years ago. The Indiana State Trooper that was killed as he conducted a "routine" traffic stop is another example of how the most innocuous situation can go wrong in a heartbeat.
Yet, after all is said and done, this is NOT about GUN control, although some would argue (erroneously) otherwise. If those officers were alive, they would tell you it's NOT about gun control, but rather PEOPLE control; making the system work to keep CREATURES like Lovelle Mixson OFF the streets and where he really belonged, namely incarcerated.
Always remember that whenever you see a police officer, that they are charged with a responsibility few of us can ever hope to understand. And they CHOOSE to do this. They BELIEVE that "the job" is worth whatever cost is expected of them. When they place that shield upon their chest, strap on that sidearm, and climb into that cruiser, they are laying it ALL on the line...DAILY...FOR YOU.
Every one of us is always a heartbeat away from eternity.
That's just the way our creator intended it, and we can't predict when that will occur.
But in that heartbeat, so much can change.
And then try explaining why it had to happen to the widows...and the children.
MY deepest condolences go out to ALL the families of the slain officers, as well as the one officer on life-support*.
*((Editor's note: According to CNN, the 4th officer (John Hege) is listed as brain dead, but will remain on life support until a decision is made regarding organ donation.))
In closing, here's something for everyone to think about.

A POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER
Lord I ask for courage

Courage to face and Conquer my own fears...
Courage to take me Where others will not go...

I ask for strength
Strength of body to protect others
And strength of spirit to lead others...

I ask for dedication
Dedication to my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community To keep it safe...

Give me Lord, concern For others who trust me
And compassion for those who need me...
And please Lord Through it all
Be at my side...

--Author Unknown
And if that doesn't say it all, I really don't know what does.
May we all come away from this a bit wiser.
Stay safe out there, America.

cops do a good job. they are only human. there was no need for all 4 of them to be dead. so sad. i remember taking the test for impd back in 94 or so. i passed it then when i went in for the physical test i falled. between the pullups and the run i failed. i think i would have enjoyed that job a little but it still would be heart breaking to see the evil things that people do to each other.

You got it right when you use the word EVIL.
There are evil THINGS that many people DO, but there ARE outright EVIL PEOPLE in the world, unfortunately.

And those who have to confront such people on a daily basis are our men and women wearing the shield.

ANd like I said, it's the CHOICE of those LEOs to protect and serve *us* that allows us the freedom we enjoy.
I'd hate to think of a world with NO police to uphold the law.
The word ANARCHY comes to mind.

You have to realize that out of every 100 people you encounter, probably 99 of them will be idiots, but it's that ONE person that thanks you or respects the position you hold, or even an admiring glance from a child you helped that makes things worthwhile.

Thanks for the comments.
