Humpday Happenings...
Humpday? Already, you say?
Oh, yeah...this kind of stuff occurs from time to time.
And we're certainly NOT at a loss for newsworthy items, that's for sure.
The ONLY reason we have NEWS is because a lot of sh*t is always happening...and the ONLY reason we have TIME is to KEEP all that sh*t from happening ALL AT ONCE.
So, sit back...pour another cup of whatever you're having (take the RED pill) and allow me to escort you on today's sojourn through "Wonderland"...(rabbit hole NOT included).
** For all of you out there that like to listen to police calls, AND if your rig is say...MORE THAN FIVE years old, then get ready to cough up a bit more money to continue your listening pleasures.
The FCC has mandated that police frequencies have to be "changed" because of interference with SPRINT cellular frequencies. And that means a whole news set of "freqs" for YOUR local PDs.
If you've already got a newer digital scanner...not to worry, you should still be able to play "seek n find", and all brand NEW scanners usually have the local channels pre-programmed into them.
So, those of you with "old faithfuls"...GET THEE TO A RADIO SHACK.
Now I AM curious as to WHY someone didn't notice the frequency "issues" when most all police departments SWITCHED to that 800 MHz system a few years back. Seems a person or three (either at the FCC or at SPRINT) wasn't quite up to speed with protocol, otherwise there would have been NO problems, right?
Fortunately, SPRINT is going to ante up and PAY for the changes to law-enforcement radios, but I'd wager that SPRINT will most likely raise rates for THEIR customers (you NEVER get something for nothing...unless you're committing fraud against the government with that welfare check baby-mama in most any major city by "playin' the system").
** But if you think you're going to get off (at least in Fort Wayne, Indiana) without paying more for something...think AGAIN.
The state ...correct that, I mean the COUNTY of ALLEN...(I get them confused as they're ALL in MY poclets at once it seems) is going to raise the WHEEL TAX on every vehicle to pay for things they should have SAVED money for in the first place (like bridge repair and street maintenance).
And what about getting ALL those PRISONERS (sitting around all day watching cable TV) the hell outside to "learn a trade" and get THEM to fix our damn streets???
Tell you one thing the government (Fed, state or local) never ceases to do is AMAZE me at the way they treat the people that voted these hacks into office.
For example...in CA they (the PEOPLE) just voted down Proposition 8 (gay marriage), so you'd THINK that was that...
Whoa...not so fast, buck-o.
The lawmakers are going to REINTRODUCE THE BILL next week on appeal.
Yeah...that's what I thought...And so it begins (all over again).
Personally, I'm OK with same sex unions, and would rather have a group of THEM living around me than the flotsam I currently "enjoy", but that's another post for another day.
Our governments will pass most EVERY law they want (in our "best interest", mind you) and will stop at nothing to ensure it's passing, whether we VOTE IT DOWN (numerous times) OR NOT. And that's reliant on whether or not the bill (or any bill) comes to a referendum. Most do not, and are blown right past us, and we, the PEOPLE can't do anything about it.
It's this blatant DISREGARD...and ARROGANCE...and even IGNORANCE towards the voting public in particular (and the people in general) that should be firing all of you up.
This is still OUR nation...we just allow the lawmakers and legislators to "borrow" it, in the hope that they are making the CORRECT decisions for every man, woman, and child IN this nation, while not "blowing the wad" on frivolous and asinine expenditures.
That's the way it's SUPPOSED to work.
Sorry...just not seein' it all that much these days...how's about YOU?
(Yepper...this here rabbit hole is gettin' a little deeper than we thought)
** Fort Wayne's sewer rate hikes will be a'comin' to a utility bill near you REAL soon, too.
It appears that the city wants to make this a FIVE YEAR rate hike gig.
So, for the next 5 years, along with a higher wheel tax (courtesy of the state), we can also enjoy higher sewer rates (courtesy of federal mandates).
Anyone looking BELOW THE WATERLINE for the REST of the iceberg? Show of hands?
I say that because these people (the city and state) MUST be smoking crack to think that THESE rate hikes will be the ONLY raise in anything we shall see for those next several years.
I suppose gas will STAY at current prices for the next 5 years (not hardly...already jumped UP 20+ cents today)...or maybe FOOD will remain static in it's cost...or NONE of the OTHER UTILITIES (like ELECTRIC or NATURAL GAS) will deviate from today's price...correct?
Somehow....I just don't seem all THAT convinced.
And then there's that nasty "X" Factor...those rotten little (or sometimes big) things that come from left field and nail us squarely in the old "Hip-National-Bank" and drain our savings.
I guess we're ALL not going to need to visit the drug store or a doctor for the next 5 years, either. Or maybe ALL our vehicles will suddenly require NO REPAIRS for 5 years (wow...whatta deal), or our HOUSES will not really NEED that new furnace, or roof, or door....ASTOUNDING!
Wow, maybe those lawmakers can foresee the future for us ALL, and have a OUIJA BOARD, or a CRYSTAL BALL at hand to channel the right people from ages past (I think most all of them have NO balls at all, let alone crystal ones...but that's just me).
Wow...didn't know OUR immediate futures looked so DAMN rosy...did you?
And hey, I'm being the optimist here...for once (he said, with tongue in cheek).
** Lastly....we sent our "new" computer "Off to see the Wizard"...the wizard of REPAIR, that is. In it's stead, I'm relying on our first B/U system That's our "PLAN B". I also decided to have a PLAN C as well. if need be, by using the PC notebook (damn teeny-weeny keyboard...get me someone with smaller fingers, quick...like a 4 year old), with a possible PLAN D in reserve (the old dog system - a windows 98 OS w/ 28.8K modem...when I need to take life a bit "slower")...and with today's technology, you never can tell, hmm?
So there we are...middle of the week...already.
And thanks to our lawmakers, there will always be a glut of something to cheese just about anyone and everyone the hell off.
You gotta love that, right?
Sure, it's not a perfect world...nor a perfect country, but for God's sake, will someone please tell those in charge of this circus that we're tired of all the CLOWN ACTS! Enough is enough.
Sooner or later, WE, THE PEOPLE, will run a bit low on financial resources...and THEN, where will these legislators be looking for that next useless project or over-funded special-interest bit of agenda, hmm?
I prefer MY PORK on the dinner table, FULLY-COOKED, with some side dishes and a nice dessert...NOT residing in some lawmaker's office desk waiting to strap me (and you) of more of OUR finances. Sorry, that must be the IDEALIST in me talking again...
Stay safe out there, America.

Our state just raised the tobacco tax hmm a few months ago I think it was. They claim they are going to use the taxes for school maintenance and whatnot (ironic too...tobacco tax for schools, what a message)! They claim it will be a stable revenue. And as you say, wait for it, because of the tax hike in tobacco...you guessed it... some smokers are going to/already have quit! Stable my ass...and other people will just buy tobacco from cheaper states, or online, or whatever, completely bypassing the tax. Funny too, bacci tax keeps going up, but here in Wisconsin, the No. 1 beer drinking state, alcohol tax hasn't gone up in over 20 years! This country I tell ya. I love it, but it can sure be ass backwards in its politics and policies!
G/L:
We had our smokin' tax go up too...cartons are now tickling $40...and that's for the "cheapies".
Politicinas are grasping at straws here, becasue they KNOW the peole who PAY the taxes (and their salaries, I might add) are honked off to no end.
But you have to admire their "creativity" (ahem), if nothing else.
I mean, HOW MANY lame-ass ideas can normal folks like US come up with...AND on a DAILY basis, hmm?
Must go with the territory, I guess.
Thanks for stopping over.
B.G.
they are planning a fat tax. sigh...i guess i will be going on a forced diet.
no thanks for any pork of ANY kind.......lol for real.
Indy:
There IS something "in the works" even WORSE...called the VAT, or Value Added Tax...and the politicos want to have it up around TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT.
...ON EVERYTHING!
(no exceptions)
(sure hope that damned INCOME tax disappears, hmm?)
