Well, that's the way the ball bounces, kids.
Think about ANY problem this world has had in the past...or is currently having...or even WILL wind up having in the future.
Then figure out HOW that problem came about.
We won't need to figure out WHO caused it, because the HOW will lead us to the WHO, got it?
So many times, we keep hearing..."Well, he's ONLY human".
(what an epiphany THAT must have been for the person making THAT quip...DUH...aren't we ALL?)
Or..."He was a misunderstood child".
(and if he was an UNDERSTOOD child, would he have STILL killed that family as they slept?)
How about..."Well, her being poor made her abusive to her kids".
(So how do we explain all the rich folks that ALSO abuse their children?)
Human beings are, without a doubt, some of the MOST curious creatures on this planet...bar none.
We find it "easier" to practice deceit and will blatantly LIE, than to actually tell the TRUTH (which really IS easier), because we think we can "get over" on someone. Take that perp, or child, or student, or neighbor you caught doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing.You SEE him do whatever it was...take a damn PICTURE of him doing it, SHOW him the picture, and STILL, he will say "I didn't do that", or "That wasn't me". or (my favorite)..."You're just being a RACIST".Gimme a damn break, will 'ya?
You got CAUGHT...period. Own UP to it, for God's sake!
And that goes for the girls too...you're getting AS bad as the boys...if not worse!
The sad part about all this is that these young'uns are growing into adulthood, they are never shown HOW to behave properly, and by that I mean with SOME level of CIVILITY. They have NO shame...NO honor...NO integrity, and in many cases...NO conscience.
And we EXPECT to see THESE kids graduate ALL of our schools, thanks to "No Child Left behind".
Yeah, that's gonna work for us....NEXT fantasy, please.
The one part to all this that burns my ass, is that we're ALWAYS blaming the SCHOOLS.
Excuse me, but when EXACTLY did we hand over, part and parcel, the PARENTING of OUR children to ANY public educational system?Last time I checked, the schools were charged (solely) with TEACHING kids pertinent SUBJECT MATTER, such as ENGLISH, MATH, HISTORY, SCIENCE...yeah, THAT stuff. Parenting was SUPPOSED to be the exclusive "realm" of....(wait for it)....the PARENTS!
(oh, no...you're kidding me, right?)
Well, that's the way things are SUPPOSED to work, as the models were designed.
We can certainly see the result of the LACK of parental intervention in these kids lives, can't we?
They grow up to become the next generation of thugs, baby-mamas, and welfare grabbers.
And you know what the really SAD part to all this is, aside from generations of people with an entitlement mentality?
We seem to be pretty much OKIE-DOKIE with this scenario.
And we consistently allow politicians to wrongly enact laws that target THINGS instead of the root cause of problems...people. But if a law DOES target ANY people, it's almost ALWAYS the Innocent, law-abiding ones, for whom the law should never apply in the first place.
Neat, huh?It all seems too "Orwellian" for my liking.
It appears to me (and please tell me where I may be wrong) that someone's going to be reaping ALL the "benefits" from allowing such people to grow into adulthood, with NO idea on how to behave, let alone function normally, when it comes to such "mundane" things as HOME-OWNERSHIP, DRIVER SAFETY, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, and (this one is scary) PROCREATION.
This is not purely a class-structure issue, nor is it any type of ethnic or racial issue.
Like values apply to EVERYONE, regardless of nationality, religious beliefs, race, or gender.
And if they do NOT apply equally, then they mean nothing...simple, huh?
There is talk of allowing CIVICS classes back in schools (I didn't know they did away with them), and that at least gets kids pointed in some direction, for God knows, they sure as hell aren't getting any lessons in CIVICS at HOME...are they?
Well, some of them are, and YOU know who is providing them....so good for you! You're doing the RIGHT thing.
Many others, are simply NOT.
Perhaps in conjunction WITH a class in CIVICS...we can include ETHICS.Used to be a time when behavior was graded....along with something called "work habits".
When the hell did we get away from all this anyway? (I swear I'm not getting all my memos)
Children need to understand that OTHER people have as much right AND as much value as themselves, and that this world will NEVER revolve around them...no matter how much they want to believe it.
You get 'em YOUNG...while they are socially pliable, and demonstrate to them the benefits from embracing GOOD values and ethical behavior. And you also get the parents involved.
But the LAST thing you want to do is keep on dumping more and more money into the school system, when the problems encountered there are always attributable to...(all together, gang)...PEOPLE!
People are the cause of ANY and ALL problems...like I said above, and (fortunately for us) it's PEOPLE that can solve such problems.
See? We're not only the PROBLEM, but we're also the SOLUTION....how novel is that?
And the easiest place for ANY of us to begin is letting our WORD be our BOND.
It's easier for US to tell the TRUTH than to lie, even if others can't handle it.
We can say what we mean and mean what we say.
We can teach others by EXAMPLE.
We can lead others by EXAMPLE.
Sure, we might not EVER be perfect, but we at least have the ability to LEARN from our mistakes, rather than wallow in them at the expense of everyone else, as well as ourselves.Be nice if POLITICIANS thought along those lines.
We can but hope, can't we?

The "no child left behind", in my opinion only of course, is a load of horse manure. We are saying, ok fine, you don't have to do anything, you still get to graduate. No incentive to actually try. That's right up there with allowing minorities to score lower on the aptitude tests required. That is like telling them, we know you won't ever be as smart, so we're going to cut you a break before you even try. More horse manure in my book. (and I happen to know horse manure when I see it)
Another great post. First, I'd like to start off by saying, it's so much easier to blame everyone else, or to use excuses. Like anyone cares WHY someone does something anyways! In SOME situations it's justifiable to be deviant, but not very many! And the "I'm only human" bit, well, even if we weren't, there would be some other excuse just as common! (oh, we're just aliens) heh.
And about ethics...As you know, I'm a student nurse. They don't you THAT much about ethics (mostly what you can and can't do, not what you should and shouldn't do), compared to the "cultural diversity" crap they cram inside your head like it is the only important part about nursing. Black, white, red, or even GREEN ffs, I'm going to treat you the same as everyone else, because your treatment does not depend on skin color!
Oh, and laws? What are THOSE? Up here, the coppers are more interested in pulling over people going a few miles over the speed limit rather than busting the drug dealers meandering along the school zones... You know, I am ALL for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education programs; prevention prevention prevention. That's what most of nursing revolves around, but even with prevention, problems still arise, and it doesn't just apply to the medical field. Even with these anti-drug programs, not everyone can resist the pressure from their peers, even parents who use drugs. And sure there are rehab programs, but in my opinion, I don't think THAT many drug addicts reach out for help, until it's too late... until they're in the back of a squad car being hauled off. Or they're dead on a slab from an OD. Sure, prevention works... and rehab is available... but even with that, they have to start cracking down, because what good is a future generation hyped up on drugs and/or stoned off their asses? We need some strict, good old fashion operant conditioning...punishment/reward. Enough of this "special circumstances" crap. What we need is:

Yes, there are those RARE (and I stress that word) situations where being a bit deviant is required (like it takes a thief to catch a thief), and I agree with that!
Diversity is more DIVISIVE than anything else. If people can't acknowledge other folks differences, they're either blind or apathetic.
But when diversity is used as a CRUTCH because of lazy-asses, I have got to draw the line.
We had peer-pressure back in MY day as well...nothing new there, but somehow, wasting money getting drunnk of blowing the lawnmowing money on reefer wasn't in OUR plans...we had lots of better things to do (and that was in the big, bad city).
ANd they were all LEGAL.
We DO need to stop ALL these damn entitlements...(something for nothing) and make people APPRECIATE what they receive...in other words...EARN IT!

they only way to teach ethics to the kids is for the parents to tow the line. dont party, fuck around, or lie..............lol well good luck on that. i personally am following my own personal standards and it seems to be working in my experimental lab of raising a teenager.
