If you ever find yourself (un)fortunate enough to live in a part of a city that has become "blighted" (by design), you might have to consider some lifestyle changes. That's just the way the cookie crumbles, kids...You will probably become more aware of your surroundings...checking the garage when you come or go to see if anyone might be hanging out nearby, or making sure YOUR property doesn't become the newest place to "chill".
But, aside from all the changes, you will find one thing out above all; you'll NEVER be at a loss for things to blog about.
In fact, there will be times that things will downright amuse you, and you will discover that you've become a tad "prophetic" when it comes to predicting how the latest bunch of neighborhood "newbies" will act when they move into the latest rental crib.
Now you regular readers already know that I live in the beautiful SOUTHEAST side of our glorious city of Fort Wayne.
And residents of this city should KNOW what that entails.
I can always count to two distinct responses when I tell anyone else living in Fort Wayne where *I* live:
1) Rib-tickling laughter
2) Severe pity
Both are enough to want to make me honestly look forward to the afterlife.
And yet, these days I really don't let it bother me...much.
A lot can be said for this part of town, but it usually doesn't consist of anything pertaining to "good".
(unless you consider leeching off the taxpaying public a "good" thing, like most all of "neighbors" have found out)
Here are some examples from today's paper of some of the typical behavior we've come to know, love, and expect.
** Southeast-side crash sends 5 to hospital
Girl, 4, critically hurt as driver apparently turns in path of SUV
Holly Abrams /The Journal Gazette /Laura J. Gardner The Journal Gazette
A crash on the city’s southeast side Tuesday sent five people to two hospitals, including a 4-year-old girl with critical injuries, Fort Wayne police said. The crash was reported just before 1 p.m. Tuesday near East Paulding Road and Winter Street.Talisa Dudley, 31, of Fort Wayne was driving west on Paulding Road when she tried to turn south onto Winter Street, said officer Michael Joyner, city police spokesman.
A GMC Envoy heading east on Paulding Road struck Dudley’s Oldsmobile Alero. Police believe Dudley’s view was obstructed by another SUV – also heading east on Paulding – in a separate lane, Joyner said. The driver of that vehicle did not stop to talk to police.
"She (Dudley) was distracted by her daughter in the back and turned into the path of the Envoy," Joyner said.
Dudley was taken to a hospital in fair condition. Her daughter, Jalisa, 4, was also taken to the same hospital with critical injuries, Joyner said.
There were two adults and three children in the SUV. The adults and one of the children were taken to a second hospital – all in fair condition. The other occupants were not injured. Police did not release any names Tuesday.
The crash remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Crash Team.
An electrical pole on Paulding Road was struck by the SUV and cracked from the impact, but the damage did not affect power to nearby residents, Joyner said.
Traffic was diverted on Paulding Road for at least two hours as police worked to reconstruct the crash scene.

Now I can tell you right now that most people around here DO NOT pay attention while driving, and this is the part of the city with the DENSEST population...(hmm, seems that much IS very true...they ARE all dense...DAMN dense)
We're always hearing about someone involved in some crash, if not a hit and run....
Guess all that alcohol these people have in their bodies IS taking a toll. Or could it be that CELLPHONE they have surgically grafted to their frigging EAR that causes all this? Maybe it was that roach they dropped between their legs while driving? Who can say.
But I can tell you that we have WAY TOO MUCH speeding in residential areas here, both of the two AND four wheeled varieties.
People around here ARE actually either drunk, high, or just plain STUPID...AND they also DRIVE.
(usually newer vehicles than the working class, I might add...where DO they get them anyway?)
And if that isn't enough, how about this?
** Delivery prompts arrest
A Fort Wayne man was arrested Tuesday on a felony charge of dealing nearly 16 pounds of marijuana after the drug was delivered to his home, city police said.
Onesimo Gonzales, 33, of the 3700 block of Winter Street, was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Following his arrest, Fort Wayne Neighborhood Code Enforcement condemned Gonzales’ home because of electrical and structural violations, police said.
Yes sir...when it definitely, POSITIVELY...HAS to get there by TOMORROW...the stash, that is...count on UPS.
(or was that FedEx?)
This was a good sting op, and I commend the LEOs involved.
Yep...ANOTHER "satisfied customer"...LOL.
(Dumbass...!)
But we're not "quite" finished yet...
** Charges grow after inmate’s escape
The Journal Gazette
A Fort Wayne man accused of forging a signature to get out of the Allen County Lockup now faces formal charges.
Dion Waller, 29, of the 900 block of Ridgemoor Drive, was charged Tuesday with escape, forgery and false reporting or informing. He was being held in lieu of $20,750 bail.
Waller was originally behind bars for violating a protective order when he escaped Aug. 12 by forging the signature of another inmate, court documents said.
Confinement officer Michael Girardot released Waller, who had a name and physical characteristics similar to those of another inmate, according to Allen County police.
Now you'd "think" that ANYTHING this guy hands ANYONE that is WRITTEN should be suspect, given his "track record", right?
I guess not.
And this is just in ONE day.
Also, we're STILL waiting for the (flawed) judicial system to get THIS asshole dumped in the hoosegow:
** New jurors seated in ’08 slaying trial
Rebecca S. Green / The Journal Gazette
Twelve new faces heard old evidence in Allen Superior Court on Tuesday as the second attempt to try Dametrick Gray for his alleged role in the April 2008 shooting death of Adrian Carswell got under way.Charged with robbery and felony murder in Carswell’s slaying, Gray, 23, first stood trial in June.
But Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull declared a mistrial after a juror said she felt threatened by someone allegedly connected with Gray after court proceedings the first day.
So Tuesday morning, Allen County prosecutors and Gray’s defense attorney picked a new
jury – 10 women and two men along with a female alternate.
Prosecutors also have charged Demarcus Morgan, 20, in connection with Carswell’s death.
Prosecutors believe Gray, on parole at the time of the shooting, and Morgan shot Carswell in a robbery sparked by poor-quality marijuana they had bought from him. (Maybe they should have called Onesimo Gonzales with the UPS drop?)
Testimony opened again Tuesday with Linda Fincher, a Three Fountains resident who said she saw two men exchange a handgun near the maroon car.
She said she saw one of the men get out from the back seat then saw the pair exchange the gun, putting it in a small backpack-like bag before leaving.
Fincher then testified she saw two women in a black SUV pull up alongside Carswell’s still-running car. One of the women got out, looked into the maroon car and screamed.
The first woman to look inside the car, Kimberly Webb, was a friend of Carswell’s who was visiting her mother. She thought at first the man inside the car was sleeping. She peered through the car’s window and realized the man wasn’t breathing.
She told her mother to call the police.
"It caught you by surprise, didn’t it?" Deputy Prosecutor Jason Custer asked.
"Surprised wasn’t the word," she said.
Gray’s sister’s ex-boyfriend also testified, telling the jury that Gray had been complaining a few days before the shooting about the quality of some marijuana he had bought.
Gray’s sister, Kashae Gray, testified her brother borrowed her car that morning. She told him to bring it back early so she could take her son to the doctor.
While waiting for her brother to return, Kashae Gray heard news of the shooting on television. When her brother arrived, later than she had hoped, he and Morgan went back into her bedroom. They changed clothes then asked her to drop them off at another apartment
complex.
She complied and then her brother called almost immediately, asking her to pick him up again, she said.
As they drove to the doctor’s office, Dametrick Gray asked his sister to stop at a trash bin, where he tossed a grocery store bag, later found to contain his shoes, according to testimony.
Crime scene technicians testified about finding a bullet and a spent shell casing at the scene, as well as Morgan’s fingerprint on the outside of a window on the car.

And we're also STILL waiting for the NEXT trial of Anthony Parish, the piece of human garbage, whose trial has been moved back AGAIN...to November (well, he IS already in jail on ANOTHER murder charge anyway).Nice to know the LEOs won't have to LOOK far to find his ass whenever the trial starts, hmm?
Let's just hope the PROSECUTOR'S office doesn't decide to drop the ball here. This boy NEEDS to be placed AWAY from humanity...FAR away.
Like I said...you learn to "adapt" your lifestyle so YOU don't become the next statistic, or an honorable mention in some crime-related article in the paper.
Now, I don't know about you, but I sure have come to look at all this "cultural diversity" in a WHOLE new light.
Perhaps only a few bad apples are spoiling the bunch, but it DOES stigmatize a LOT of people who rightly do not deserve to have themselves taken to task for those of their race who ARE being the nuisances in our neighborhoods.
And like I always say, any manner of change that needs to be implemented HAS to come FROM that ethnic community, because they sure don't take much to having us "outsiders" point out character flaws and even tell them right from wrong (which invariably falls under the jurisdiction of the LAW).Perhaps...someday...those that NEED to wake up, actually WILL.
Then we can get about the task of working TOGETHER to better the community we ALL live in.
Helluva concept, ain't it?
Have a great day, and don't forget to...
Stay safe out there, America.

I'm curious, Bob, do you admit to being racist, or are you one of those racists who claim to "have black friends?" I was linked here on a very interesting Internet tangent and i've read about seven of your posts. Each post has at least one subtle little racist jab - some less subtle than others.
I get that you're a grumpy old conservative who remembers the halcyon days of his youth, when men were men, women had babies and kids and minorities knew their place, but things change, Bobby. The area you CHOOSE to live in is filled with poverty, thus it is filled with crime. For gods sake, man, move! don't cling to some romanticized notion of sentimentality over your safety and sanity.
If you are simply one of those crabby old people who sit on the porch and call the cops every time someone under 35 has the temerity to wander past your modest parcel of land then you, sir, are part of the problem. It is people like you who lead to police harassment, which breeds suspicion of police- or, in keeping with the language of which you have assigned to my race, the PO-lease.
I know I'll never change the mind of a crusty old racist, but feeling sorry for yourself when you're young is pointless. Feeling sorry for yourself when your old is just pathetic.
jaileer.....see this is why there are days i cant reply to this mans post. i really dont beleive he is a racist. but, i do see what you see. i dont think he calls the cops everytime someone gets on his property. in reality he is pretty tame as far as 50 something year old white men. i have grown to respect his comments. even though i do not agree with all of them. when you read his blog read it with an open mind. and, see his good points. people have called me a racist too. but, until we really know the person we are commenting too it really isnt fair unless he/or she declaires themselves one.
if he lived where i do i am sure he would be talking more on the mexicans legal and perhaps illegal. but, he doesnt.
Jaileer:
I am always amused whenever I hear from folks with NO sense of the OBVIOUS...
MY neighborhood does NOT claim to be a poverty stricken area JUST by the mere FACT that many around here deal in DRUGS, and the last time I checked, that was one helluva LUCRATIVE "occupation".
I maintain that the MOST PEOPLE around here (and we DO have some white trash as well as the other flavors) purport to BE "poor", while displaying the associated FACADE...all the while driving NEW vehicles, wearing NEW clothing, and ALWAYS having the "resources at hand to purchase SCADS of groceries, take-out, alcohol, and YES...DRUGS.
They FEIGN poverty, while laughing up their voucher books at everyone else.
Most wouldn't know REAL poverty if it bit them all in their more than ample asses.
ANd NOT ONE OF THEM HAVE ANY TYPE OF JOB TO SPEAK OF.
If calling THEM on this charade against the taxpaying public is considered "racist", then not only is that terminology misplaced, but also it's YOU, my friend who is being duped...not I.
THEY are the ones with the misplaced PRIORITES in life...
I detest white supremacy groups, as they often represent as much of the hate mongering as the BLACK ones (who go a lot less notcied for some reason).
Now while I disagree with your patently flawed assessment of my demeanor and mindset, I WILL however defend your right to speak your mind.
And I don't give a flying hoot in hell WHAT COLOR you are.
And the LAST thing I would EVER "feel" is sorry for myself.
I feel sorry for all those AROUND me who haven't a clue as to what "getting a life" truly means.
And I feel sorry for those who should "feel the need" to ever attempt to take for themselves that which is NOT...namely MINE (that I've worked for while paying Their way).
I do feel sorry for folks like YOU that never manage to see the forest for the tree, though.
You do have my sincere sympathy.
(now put down the Kool-Aid)
Thanks for your comments.
Indy:
You're right...I don't call the cops EVERY TIME I see someone of color walking past the house...
But I WILL call if I see someone dealing drugs, brandishing a firearm, driving recklessly, or doing anything that would be considered a PUBLIC nuisance (and that means to ALL the public...of ALL persuasions).
I'm used to being called that which I'm not...many of us are.
We're just tired of seeing people getting away with things that ALL of us of every color would consider "other than normal", as far as behavior goes.
Most of my calls to the police are for LOUD MUSIC (usually from BLACK or HISPANIC vehicles), which I'm sure is "just an ethnic thang" anyway...
(but is STILL against the law)
I DO send along a monthly report to the quadrant captain , and maintain contact with another in the FWPD to alert them to "trends" in my area.
ANd I've called ALL races on this one, as they're ALL involved in something at some time.
I don't like what these people have turned me into, but THEY are the ones that did it.
I'm a pretty easy going guy, but people NEED to stand up for WHAT IS RIGHT...for ALL.
And the police don't seem to mind, either.
Call me a "Neighborhood Watch of One".
Thanks for commenting.
I really shouldn't get into this conversation but, i'm a sucker. I am flattered, bobby, that you decided to write a whole blog post on my little comment so i'll make a comment there because, oh yeah, i've got stuff to say.
Jaileer:
Just make sure you're not bringing a knife to a gun fight...AND that YOU are open to seeing the TRUTH.
Because THAT is all you'll get from me.
J~
I've an even BETTER idea...
Why not start YOUR OWN blog?
(just a thought)
:)
When you're spouting hackneyed cliche's about "trading one set of chains for another" it's really not me that needs to open his mind. Have your OWN thought, Bob, don't just regurgitate what the republican party tells you is the truth.
I have started to blog several times but it turns out that I'm just not self-centered enough maintain a blog. As it turns out, i'm *just* self-centered enough to comment on yours!
Anon/J:
I used the "chain" analogy LONG before ANY political party thought it up...maybe I should ask for "proprietary reparations"...or royalties?
(btw, I'm an Independent)
ROFL!
You're definitely NOT self-centered...
Self-RIGHTEOUS, yes, but NOT self-centered.
:)
Thanks for commenting.
