It Used To Be A Nice Place...
I'm talking about this here old planet we call EARTH.
It USED to be a lot nicer place.
Sure, we had war once in a while, but somehow, we always came out the other side BETTER OFF then we did going in.
Until the politicians screwed up the VIETNAM WAR, that is.
The cities we live in had a LOT more nicer neighborhoods...with a LOT more nicer PEOPLE inhabiting them.
Can't say that's the case these days.
Recently in Chicago, there have been mobs roaming the streets, doing nothing short of fighting, and creating a general mayhem.
Here's a link to the story:
http://cbs2chicago.com/local/uptown.street.fight.2.1131626.html
Here's a video of the fighting:
http://www.suntimes.com/news/24-7/1721460,w-uptown-crime-video-joe-gray-081809.article
And here's a blog that's been following the "riots":
http://www.uptownupdate.com/
Now THIS is the EXACT SAME typical behavior we're seeing, albeit not on such a LARGE scale in cities ALL across America.
Makes me wonder WHAT the media would be saying "if" the perps were all WHITE?
So much for embracing "diversity", or "cultural sensitivity", hmm?
(Does doing a "cuff n stuff" equate to EMBRACING these people?)
But, the changes this world is seeing are not solely related to devolved behavior in the inner city.
Thanks to urban sprawl, much of the areas we used to be able to drive to on those "weekends to nowhere" trips, are rapidly vanishing as well. What used to be farm land might now be a new strip mall...or a housing development...or another airport.
Still...we are seeing a lot less of some things, and seeing so much more of other things.
Or maybe, we're too busy with our lives to even notice the changes...until it's way too late.
I mean, we DO have all this technology to marvel at, right?
Yeah, but where is my JET PACK I was supposed to have, which was "promised" to ALL of us back in the 1950s?
The vision of THAT future went the way of the Passenger Pigeon, folks!
All those "dreams" of kitchens that cook the food FOR you...flying cars...the "Jetsonian" existence we were made to believe WAS achievable (in the 21st Century) when and if we all worked together, kinda went down the crapper.
We barely have electric cars (for the umpteenth time)...let alone FLYING ones.
The only thing "flying" is OUR MONEY...like, out the window.
Funny thing, we USED to have electric cars WAY back in the early 1900s...amazing.
(like this 1905 Woods electric carriage)
Thomas Edison bought a 1902 Studebaker Runabout (2nd one made out of 20 that year) that was ELECTRIC.
Here's a site that tells of ALL the companies that made electric vehicles in the early 20th century:
http://www.earlyelectric.com/carcompanies.html
So this has been tried before...a LOT.
But, since we're all screwing up the planet with our love of foreign oil, we're being pressed to adopt a "different" tack when it comes to personal transport. Wish OTHER countries like CHINA and INDIA were as insisting upon doing what OUR nation is attempting.
Maybe NEXT century?
There is something curious about all this electric, plug-in technology...
We're STILL going to need a POWER SOURCE, aren't we?
(well, we already have all those OUTLETS everywhere)
And all that electricity needed to CHARGE UP all those electric cars will have to come from SOMEWHERE, right?
(that would be our POWER GRID, Bob)
And ALL those power plants that SUPPLY that grid are fueled by WHAT, boys and girls?
You'd be CORRECT if you answered "by COAL or FOSSIL FUELS".
So, where EXACTLY are we saving ALL this oil.
It would seem we're just taking it (metaphorically) out of ONE pocket and placing it in the other, right?
Be funny if we suffer rolling brown outs or blackouts because EVERYONE is charging their ELECTRIC cars AT NIGHT (the new peak hours), hmm?
Unless...we go a lot more NUCLEAR, which would take at least FIVE years from today if we started right...about....NOW...GO!
Be nice if we could find a way to produce electricity on board the vehicles without relying on fossil fuels. now THAT would make a helluva lot MORE sense to me.
Oh, wait...if we can strip HYDROGEN from WATER, and burn THAT (to even produce electricity), then the by-product would be OXYGEN (good for the environment) or some form of water vapor.
Wow...now THAT sounds like a better plan to me (until they get me my JET PACK...LOL).
Well, we know the cities suck, vehicular technology sucks, and all these petty wars across the planet suck.
We can add Somali pirates (they really suck) to the mix as well. Somalia is like Uptown Chicago (or Detroit) on steroids...at sea...LOL!
It makes the mind boggle when you stop and think about all the crap floating past us in life (on this planet) today.
You've got inflation, taxation, recession, depression (economic and personal)...and governments totally out-to-lunch when it comes to following the wishes of their PEOPLE. They'd much rather feather their OWN nests at your expense.
Places that wildlife used to roam are being eaten up by mankind, rainforests are being over-harvested (instead of recycling paper), and much of the resources we, as humans depend upon with this whole "circle-of-life" thing, are being depleted faster than they can be replenished, because of greed, or waste, or simply not giving a damn about anything but the comapny "bottom line".
Now, I'm no tree-hugging liberal hippie, but even I can see it's basically unsustainable thanks to our carelessness.
Will it get worse before it gets better...probably.
Will we live to see things turn around...probably not.
But we can do what we need to do in the meantime (aside from taking notes and posting to our blogs...LOL)
Sadly, we can't change the minds of the mindless.
But, we CAN help the minds of the mindful.
Like I said at the beginning...this USED to be a nice place...this Earth of ours.
Be nice to get back to that...some day.
We can but hope.
Nothing lasts forever, but our life IS here NOW...and so are YOU.
I'll get off the old soapbox for now, so you can also get a turn, 'K?
Stay safe out there, America.

perhaps thats why they were talking about indiana being number 2 or 3 on coal mining in the states. saw it briefly on the news and was like ???????? and then they interviewed some silly people saying wind power wont work if the wind wasnt blowing........i was like wtf... becouse windpower works well even when the wind isnt blowing becouse they store up the power...i want to know where is MY WINDMILL AND MY SOLAR ROOF? what happened to the promises i remember being made in the 70's....i wish in a way i hadnt been smart and reading the paper back then or helping my dad with taxes in the late 70's early 80's they were giving tax breaks to this in indiana...i dont even have a brick wall to bang my head against.

and NO MORE electric cars. unless its being a shared car system like major citys in foriegn countrys have sit up. it wont work. not even getting into that tangent today.

in indianapolis it would be great to have a system like stuttgart germany and ludwigsburg germany have. intercity rail. lite rail. buses that are sit up to the trains...oh stuff like that. and yes, i have suggested it before but the people we elect must laugh everytime i suggest. if we could bring germany together after ww2 then why not with our own country.

This country used to have MILES upon MILES of urban and inter-urban rail...and thanks to our love of autos, we paved them ALL over.
ANd now, we're reinventing THAT wheel...gonna cost a bundle, too!
Seems we can't ever have it BOTH ways, can we?

Thanks for stopping by.
