Believe It Or Else...
Time once again for some of the most inane, incomprehensible, and idiotic behavior and stories gleaned from the wonderful world of news and local observations, meant to enlighten, inform, and otherwise scare the bejeezus out of you.
To properly set the mood for today's post, perhaps this exchange between the main characters in the classic 1984 movie GHOSTBUSTERS might shake the cobwebs away:
Dr. Peter Venkman: This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, "biblical"?
Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath of God type stuff.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.
Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...
Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave!
Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Well, it hasn't come down to THIS...yet, but we DO have some crazy-ass sh*t going down all over the globe, with our country doing okay for itself in this regard...not really a good thing, though.
Now you get the picture, right?
*** My wife and I love to set out hummingbird feeders so we can watch them come by and partake.
Something about a tiny bird that travels over a THOUSAND miles to migrate up HERE for the summer JUST to suck down some sugar water (nectar) amazes me to no end. And their "hum" is very distinct.
And to be able to actually ATTRACT these birds is something I could only dream about back in the city (Philly).
Imagine my surprise the other day when I saw this fellow doing this:
That's right...one of our squirrels decided to NOT drink from the water dish provided for the birds on the patio, but instead try something a bit "sweeter".
These squirrels are plenty MANIC enough, if you watch them chase each other around the tree trunks and across the lawns and the street, so the LAST thing I really need (or want) is to have these critters bouncing all over the neighborhood, thanks to a "sugar rush" from yours truly.
Fortunately, they are easily chased, but they KNOW it's there, now. I did chase one away the other day with my BB pistol (aimed at the fence he was on and NOT the squirrel...that wised him up).
You have to remember that these little buggers are highly creative when trying to get food from a source not their own.
And that is why I did something a bit more "pre-emptive" in keeping these guys off of the hummingbird feeders...
I made some "baffles" from some Cool-Whip container lids.
They can't readily access the feeder, and if they try to get ON the lid, it tips, tossing them for a loop.
Sure beats having to BUY a green plastic baffle, molded in the shape of a palm tree for $16 bucks, doesn't it?
So far, so good...we'll have to keep checking to see if the squirrels can "take the hint".
But it does look promising.
*** In another astounding story, this new Supreme Court nominee, Elena Kagan has got me scratching my head.
She's being nominated for the HIGHEST COURT in our country...BUT...she has NEVER tried a case or sat on the bench...anywhere???
Uh, excuse me for being a bit slow here, but don'cha have to be a REAL JUDGE for a while BEFORE you become a SUPREME COURT JUDGE?
Isn't that a bit like having a guy fixing your plumbing that has never picked up a wrench?
...Or a mechanic working on your transmission because he's DRIVEN a lot of cars (but never really worked on one)?
...Or a police officer that has never attended ANY academy or fired ANY type of weapon?
...Or a pilot that has NEVER spent any cockpit time, but has SEEN a lot of planes as he was growing up?
I'm really confused here. I thought the BEST QUALIFIED PERSON for a job such as Supreme Court Justice had some...REQUIREMENTS, like being a damn JUDGE and trying some REAL cases and rendering decisions in a REAL courtroom.
How freaking weird is all THIS, anyway?
But wait...we've got more...
From the Brownsville Herald comes a story about a Hispanic that took sports a little too seriously:
(( Man beats, jams screw in toddler stepdaughter during World Cup game
June 27, 2010 10:19 PM - By JARED TAYLOR, The Monitor
McALLEN, TX — Police arrested a man who allegedly beat and suffocated his 2-year-old stepdaughter during the World Cup soccer game Saturday afternoon before jamming a screw down her throat in an attempt to make the slaying appear accidental.
McAllen police arrested Hector Castro, 28, after firefighters called officers to his apartment at 3101 N. Eighth St at 4:18 p.m. Saturday, said McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez.
Firefighters and emergency medical personnel had been called to the house in reference to the girl's apparent choking on a screw, Rodriguez said. But after a cursory examination of the girl, whose name was not released by police, it was clear the screw had nothing to do with her death, police said."There are no words for this," said Rodriguez.
"It makes you want to think about doing lots of things to this guy, but he will face the criminal justice system just like everybody else."
Castro, an undocumented immigrant, gave investigators a confession that implicated himself in the girl’s death, Rodriguez said.
Castro told investigators he was looking after his stepdaughter as he tried to watch the World Cup soccer match on television Saturday afternoon.
The toddler would not stop crying, and Castro allegedly gave the girl a severe beating, cracking several of her ribs before suffocating the girl, Rodriguez said. He then jammed a screw down her throat in an attempt to make the suffocation appear accidental.
Castro will face a capital murder charge at an arraignment set for today.
Neighbors said they saw police set up yellow caution tape, examining Castro's apartment for several hours Saturday afternoon and evening.
But no one has returned to the unit at the Greens Pointe apartment complex, said neighbor Irma Garcia.
"I would hear the baby crying all the time," said Garcia as she held her year-old son in her arms.
"Not even my son would cry that much."
Four other children live at the apartment, Garcia said. The kids have been transferred into the custody of
Child Protective Services, Rodriguez said.
The toddler's death marks the McAllen’s fifth murder case of 2010 and the third this month. Those three most recent cases involved illegal immigrant suspects, the chief said.
"The criminal justice system will spend horrendous amounts of time, effort and money to make these cases," Rodriguez said.
"That is time, effort and money that our regular citizens are deprived of."
Castro faces a capital murder charge in the case because of the victim's young age.
"It is unimaginable," Rodriguez said.
"I just can't fathom, you know, a grown adult person beating a 2-year-old to death.
"I have grandkids and it is just impossible for me to imagine this kind of behavior."
))
Wow...another tale about UNDOCUMENTED ILLEGALS here in AMERICA...who would have DREAMED this could occur, especially with well over TWENTY MILLION of these law-breakers within the confines of our nation's borders?
A real "Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot?" moment here, friends.
I mean, is soccer THAT damn important to these wetbacks, that they have to come HERE to watch it, only to kill an innocent STEPchild when they CRY? That's what 2-year olds DO, Hector, you frigging moronic sonuvabitch! I hope they hang your sorry ass!
But such idiocy is not relevant ONLY to the Hispanic community these days...
Let's check out this update from a story I posted here yesterday:
(( Published: June 29, 2010 3:00 a.m.
Door ajar sparked deadly spat, witness says - Holly Abrams The Journal Gazette
FORT WAYNE – The Fort Wayne man accused of stabbing his brother to death Saturday was angry his sibling kept closing the front door inside his home and told police he feared for his own life as they began to argue, according to Allen Superior Court records filed Monday.
A witness told police that Jeremy Spence, 27, was intoxicated when he stabbed his sibling, records state.
The argument between the brothers broke out just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday when Jeffery Spence Jr., 28, arrived at his brother’s home, at 241 E. Pettit Ave., records state.
The witness told police that Jeremy became angry at Jeffery, who kept shutting a door at the home. Jeremy was intoxicated, and at one point Jeffery told his brother he needed to be beat up, according to court records.
Jeffery tried to restrain his brother, but Jeremy kept "acting crazy," the witness told police.
Jeffery then wrestled his brother to the ground and told him to "calm down and stop acting stupid," the witness told police.
The two brothers then stood up. Jeremy opened a kitchen drawer, retrieved a knife, and stabbed his brother in the chest. Jeremy did not call police, according to the witness.
Paramedics took Jeffery to Parkview Hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
When police interviewed Jeremy, he said his brother had also been drinking beer, records state. Jeremy told police his brother had been "disrespecting his house and not doing what he told him to do," records said.
Jeremy told police his brother had knocked him out in the past and that he was in fear for his life during the argument.
He also said his brother was choking him, leaving him immobile, when he was restrained on the kitchen floor, according to court records.
Another witness told police that Jeremy was the aggressor and acted "crazy and out of control" just before the stabbing, according to reports.
Jeremy Spence faces one preliminary charge of aggravated battery.
He was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail Monday night.
))
STILL no charge of reckless HOMICIDE...or even MURDER?
(another "WTF?" moment, people)
I'd say that if you got yourself a DEAD GUY in the house, that's pretty DAMN "aggravated".
And ("he's such a good boy") Jeremy seems to NOT be a "first-time" visitor to the Allen County judicial system...(just a wild guess).
As the police fondly comment about this part of town THIS time of year..."It's Stupid Season, all right."
Now, at this point, I would also comment about a FWPD officer of 20 years that has had 14 allegations of "excessive force" lodged against him, and been suspended numerous times dating back to 1991, and has been suspended again for 3 months...but I think you can all do the math on this one. The department is keeping him on. Officer Morales is apparently worth more ON the job than off, regardless of where he winds up after serving his suspension.
Well, they COULD always put him down here...like to see some of the local knuckleheads get their just desserts for once.
This area can always use a bit more excessive force when dealing with the prostitutes, drug dealers, vandals, thieves, and such.
And there you have it...just SOME of the wonderful things you might not be aware of, simply because your attention is being diverted elsewhere.
After all, if you keep a society CONFUSED, they become much more pliable and can be led with much more ease.
We need to focus...on people, places, and events.
We need to know that this is still OUR country, and deserves to be the best damn one on the planet.
If that means searching for the truth..fine.
If that means we call people out who lie to us...marvelous.
And if that means we vote these cronies out, speak our mind and stand on our founding documents...perfect!
It's all up to...US.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay safe out there, America.

Dear Bob,
I've been thinking for awhile that you found a whole new crop of eagle pictures. Is this so?? Either that, or they are continually renewing in front of my eyes.

Second, what a story about the squirrels! LOL!!! There's a moral in there somewhere--one guy taking what belongs to another! By gosh, taking from those birds and already maniacs. Squirrels litter, too--they just drop their darn nutshells wherever they happen to be! I hope those baffles work! I do love squirrels, but hummingbirds ARE special. I love to watch them--little miracles in action.

Third, that poor toddler. If it hadn't been during the World Cup it would have been for some other screwed-up reason, this man has probably done a number on his kids over and over again. I hope he fries. I am pretty convinced that child abuse and murder ranks for really hot parts of Hell.

Or at least, if I was running Hell, that's how it would be. :-)

Thanks for the inspirations, laughs, warnings! Have a great day!

Good Morning Bobby I have a question for you....how do you keep the ants out of your hummingbird feeders? What a lovely back yard you have, too bad it is not in a more peaceful area.

Ann:

I periodically search the Internet for newer pictures of eagles.
I've amassed a good size collection and may have to create a separate folder to contain them all straight away.

Thought you'd get a kick out of the"hummingsquirrels" we have in our yard...!

I'm figuring they have "identity" issues...!

You're more than welcome for all that I can bring you and everyone else here at "the fence".

And thanks so much for coming by today.

Keeping ants out of the feeders....hmm...that's a difficult one.

One way to cut down the numbers significantly is to smear some petroleum jelly or some type of grease on the HOOK attached to the feeder. That manages to dissuade a LOT of them.
I mean who wants to step in grease up to their knees, right?
(I know...ants don't have "knees")

SOmetimes, I spray the hanger (only) with bug spray, before I return the feeder to the hook. That works well, too.
But sooner or later, some inventive 6-legger will find his way to the food...

Wasps can be dealt with using a squirt bottle (set on STREAM) of COLD water.
Many of them drop like rocks!

A child's SUPER SOAKER works REALLY well...LOL..

Sadistic?
Perhaps...but it makes enjoying the hummingbirds THAT much more fun.

Thanks for the question...and for stopping by.

young women with babies need to know not to be leaving their babies with these men. if the man is not the father normaly he treats the kids wrong. MOST MEN just dont want to father other peoples kids period. even if there is no other father in site. i had that almost happen to me once. i had to go to work. i was using the babysitter that he recommended. i asked him to watch my daughter for a 1/2 hour becouse he reported into work later. and to give the babysitter more time to get to her house. he was like no, its not my kid. (we had dated at this point over 2 years) a few months later we broke up. and he told my babysitter that my daughter never liked him. that was a bunch of bs. and she was only 5 years old. looking back at everything he was a strange bird and i'm glad it never worked out. even though it broke my heart that he left me. it would have killed me if he would have hurt my kid. and oh yes, he is married now. about 8 years ago they went to a doctor to find out why they never had babies. the doc told him that it was her that couldnt have them. so, when he had a chance to be a dad he didnt want to. and he walked away from me even though i was upfront and honest that i couldnt have another child. even people at work told him that he had thrown away his chance to be a dad. (he was a white man).

dont matter what color the man is. for the most part if he didnt make it, he dont want to take part in raising it.

I was brought up to regard ANYTHING (or anyone) that belonged to someone ELSE with AS MUCH RESPECT as if it were my OWN...and that should especially pertain to children.

Hell, we have men that don't want to have ANY stake in rearing THEIR OWN children...!
(look at ALL the deadbeat dads)

You learn by living...and life IS what it's ALL about...not the taking OF life from such an innocent child as this.
You make some DAMN fine points, and I thank you for sharing them here today.

Carry On!
