Monday Musings...
It's the first FULL week on the new year, and traditionally, the holiday season is now "officially" over, with yesterday's Epiphany (6 Jan).
But we'll give you a few more days to get those decorations down, and the Christmas tree dismantled. Nothing wrong with wanting to keep the spirit of the season alive a bit longer.
And since BLOGGER hasn't YET corrected THEIR photo-upload screwup, we're doing the PLAN-B gig, which means uploading pictures either through HTML or Google Chrome (so they can track you better).
Posts might be later than usual...sorry for that.
Today's Heartland weather will be cold again, but not anywhere close to last week. Temps will rise to the low 30s today, after the slight fog and drizzle subside. Going to befairly SUNNY today as well, so get working on that "tan"...lol.
So, let's start getting busy taking on whatever the world has planned for us today, shall we?
*** First up, another shooting on Fort Wayne's...(...all together, friends...)...SOUTHEAST side leaves one man in the hospital.
(I was wondering what TOOK so long for these moolies to get with their program)
Here's the story:
http://www.wane.com/dpp/news/crime/one-person-in-critical-condition-after-winter-street-shooting
They didn't update the story to include comments by a woman who lives NEAR that intersection (in ghettoland).
She stated she was MOVING, because she feared for her childrens' safety...AND the fact that her Aerostar was struck by several of the rounds, one of them shattering the rear hatch glass.
This area hasn't been a good place for well over 15 years...it's only been getting worse, as has MOST of this part of town.
All this due to some black males who had to prove that THEIR testosterone was better than another group's.
Sure makes a case against violence...and that "rally" that was held about 12 hours PRIOR downtown.
And that brings me to the NEXT article for your enjoyment...
*** About 100 people attended a rally to end the violence, especially on the (...you know where...) SOUTH side of the city.
Here's THIS story:
http://www.indianasnewscenter.com/news/local/Close-to-100-Rally-to-End-Violence--185761882.html
Chief York, his SE quadrant lapdog, (Cpt. Garry Hamilton) and members of the black community came together this past Saturday in an "effort to spread awareness about the need for CHANGE (we can believe in?) in the Summit City".
(and NOT just where the majority of the crimes occur...like DOWN HERE?)
Now, this COULD be a "WTF???" moment, but let's not be too hasty...
Twenty-two out of THIRTY homicides were IN the city last year (if we count Josh Frisby, it's ACTUALLY 23)
Now, I suppose all this IS well and good...I mean holding rallies and meetings will CERTAINLY send a message to these thugs.
(yeah, right - they've been laughing at the city and the department for YEARS)
And, as I've noticed, praying one's ass off isn't making the TYPE of effect that was initially desired, either.
But it IS better than doing nothing, right?
MY problem with ALL of this several-fold...
1) I JUST saw BLACK community members there...nothing regarding the HISPANIC community, which has a RISING problem with crime and gangs. And that's only been happening for the last 5-8 years (when the city's Hispanic population began to take off).
I think that EVERY ethnicity should be involved if we're to get any dialogue going with EVERY community where crime rears it's head.
2) People admit there is a violence problem, but I didn't hear anything about the ROOT CAUSES.
Face it, when it comes to gun violence (for example) it doesn't occur because some firearm JUMPED off a shelf or out from a drawer and lept into some criminal's hand...right? It's a PEOPLE problem...and always will be.
3) Not a word about violence being a "cultural" issue, meaning that due to violence as portrayed in ethnic MUSIC and/or FILMS, as well as the manner of dress and overall lifestyle pertaining to specific cultures, or more specifically...SUB-CULTURES withing out society.
THAT needs to be addressed FIRST, but once again...the silence was deafening.
Any problem resulting from any form of violence is not due to MY cultural one damn bit...I didn't start ANY fire under these mooks.
The music listen to doesn't promote violence, demean women, laud drugs, and state that I'm oppressed in any way.
The people at the rally want the violence to stop...which it will not (at least not easily), but they don;t admit that it's mostly THEIR problem.
Black communities have traditionally higher unemployment, fewer two-parent families, and higher crime.
They also enjoy MORE government "assistance" (read sponsorship) than other communities, but the Hispanics ARE catching up, as are some whites.
Many of the attendees want a SOLUTION...but until the PROBLEMS are fully-defined, it's just another bunch of talking heads looking for a cheap photo-op...but that's just what I've come to know from living "in the belly of the beast", as it were.
*** The BLACK community has allowed crime to permeate it's every nook and cranny, as well as spill over into OTHER neighborhoods (which when vacated soon become the realm OF the same, crime-ridden blacks).
Sure, there are ALWAYS a few blacks that WILL fight back as best they can...but even THEY wind up moving, or they die in related crimes perpetrated on THEM "by their fellow man". That hardly allows for ANY opportunity to rise above it all, does it?
When you embrace a drug culture, dress like a damn prison bitch or slob, take from everyone and give back to no one, and then cry the blues because the GOVERNMENT isn't doing enough FOR you...something is dreadfully WRONG with your way of thinking.
If, from this rally, a seed is planted that will grow into something that WILL actually diminish the crime in these infested areas, that's a damn good thing. But, if all this becomes is lip-service to the few that really DO care, then it's just so much wasted time, isn't it?
This FWPD chief has had TOO long to find some sort of solution, but HIS problem is that he has never figured out the problems to solve.
He's been purely a reactionist in this regard...and it shows.
As a result, the ethnic communities have little trust in the police, and it's NOT the fault of the patrol officers one damn bit.
They just catch the flak that Rusty created.
Add to that a GANG problem that has been allowed to GROW almost exponentially over the last several decades, with a sense of denial by the FWPD chief, while I've been saying we had a gang problem since LONG before this blog began 6 years ago.
Thing is, no one paid attention to what I had to say, and they're all now reaping the benefits of their decision.
We've heard about Phil Marx's house being fire-bombed years ago, drug deals out front of his house, the brick through OUR window, fights on our lawn after midnight, and the like...
We've counted up the DBs along the way, tallied homicides yearly, along with too numerous robberies, assaults, rapes, arsons, burglaries and all the rest, until the cows came home, and STILL...no change in either tactics or viable solutions to these problems, by the FWPD ...OR the specific ethnic communities involved.
You want to change things?
Fine, start making the TOUGH decisions.
And you can start by targeting the SMALL sh*t - things that have been too long neglected by the FWPD...like NOISE VIOLATIONS.
There has always been a DIRECT CORRELATION between boomcars and criminal activity. Time to start enforcing THE LAW.
Same goes for the judiciary, where most ALL the balls are dropped when it comes to criminal arrests.
Stop turning the BAD eggs back on the damn streets...break the "chain of command" with these thugs, and don't allow others to take their places.
The solutions are as many as you can count, but unfortunately, you HAVE to find the PROBLEM...and then DEFINE it...and then TARGET it by proactive actions, and not reactive ones.
THAT will make this city a lot better...for everyone.
Anything less, is just blowing smoke.
(you pick the orifice)
Have a great week, such as it might be.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Friday Follies...
(( Prologue - Since BLOGGER has decided to place it's HEAD UP IT'S ASS today, I cannot post ANY pictures...dunno why. Please bear with me until they solve their cranial-rectal inversion...thank you.))

(( Update - 0950 Hr: I CAN add pictures if I use HTML...one at a time, and THEN update and modify picture size and location...helluva way to do things, but it's better than NOTHING, so thank you in advance for your patience.))
We now return you to your regularly-scheduled blog post:

Here we are...the FIRST weekend of the new year, and that means all those taxpayer-sponsored EBT cards have been "recharged", so expect longer lines at checkouts, as well as lots of uneducated people asking dumb questions of the cashiers and trying to get even more stuff for "nuffin".
The weather today will be seasonal, with temps topping out near (but neither at nor above) the freezing mark, with some sun and some clouds.
So get comfy, relax and we'll see what's been going on since last we met here.
*** First out of the gate today, some "splainin" by our chief of police over WHY only THREE homicides were solved last year (out of THIRTY).
Oh, and by the way, the CRIMESTOPPERS "commercial" was looking for tips regarding JOSHUA FRISBY'S HOMICIDE...imagine that!
Now, if I figure the math right (which I always do), we can ADD Frisby's death to the OTHER THIRTY we already had, so in FACT, we REALLY had THIRTY-ONE homicides last year...but no one else is saying that...maybe THEY need some remedial math courses?
Anywho, back to Rusty...
Here's the lowdown (with video from WANE):
My FIRST contention with the story is that we already KNOW there were THIRTY homicides...it was listed in the Journal-gazette, for God's sake.
And, if we ADD Josh Frisby's death, it becomes THIRTY ONE...how simple is THAT?
But where does anyone come up with TWENTY-TWO, anyway?
Talk about "fuzzy math"...
The THREE that were solved were TWO listed as police-action shootings (by an officer) and one other a homicide-suicide...THERE is/are your "three".
So, that leaves TWENTY-SEVEN unaccounted for (or is that 28?) right?
And two DOZEN is 24...last time I checked, unless it's two BAKER'S dozen, which would be 26.
See...you HAVE to follow up on this sh*t...otherwise you wind up believing incorrect "facts".
The TWO (least they got THAT number right) major problems with solving these homicides are:
1) WITNESSES...as in they dummy up and "dinsee nuffin"...typical.
2) EVIDENCE PROCESSING...which is sent elsewhere in the state to ISP (state police) locations and can cost SIX months of lost time.
York also goes on to say that MANY of the homicides were either DRUG or GANG related...
Really?
REALLY???
I thought only a COUPLE of the deaths were GANG-related...changing the story (again), huh?
I've been saying you have a drug AND gang problem down here for...let's see...EVER!
Not seeing it addressed all that much. We still have the movers and shakers.
Much as I hate to say it, if it wasn't for FEDERAL agencies aiding in some (read most) of these cases, the overall tally would be lower still.
York has to REALLY start active patrolling in hot spots...keep these perps off their guard...let THEM know that the POLICE are around 24/7/365...
Time for a (here I go again for the umpteenth time)...PROACTIVE approach instead of a REACTIVE one.
Make penalties for the smaller sh*t HIGHER, so it doesn't escalate to the BIG sh*t...like HOMICIDES.
It's either THAT...or watch this city become a mini- Detroit...right under your primate noses.
*** Next up, a little more info on Mr. "ORANGE JULIUS" (nice jumpsuit) aka the USPS robber.
Here's the story:
Seems that the perp who was caught, left a "calling card"...actually, he left the whole damn PHONE behind...LOL.
WHATTA DUMBASS F$CKTARD!
Guess those saggy-baggy drawers ARE good for something...like dumping your pocket contents at a crime scene when hopping counters.
(that's when you're NOT waddling down the streets like a f$cking drunken PENGUIN)
Investigators traced the dropped phone back to Lawson, through fingerprints and friend "contacts".
Lawson faces one count of attempting to rob a person having custody of any mail matter, money, or property of the UNITED STATES.
Good luck trying to duck THIS one, sh*t for brains!
*** And last up today....a rare visit from the avian world...
Wednesday afternoon, we were graced by the presence of something we don't see all that often, and when we do, we need binoculars to view it properly, as they tend to never get close to the ground, let alone on our patio furniture.
A COOPER'S HAWK paid us a nice visit for the better part of 15 minutes...it was AWESOME!
Naturally, we had to snap any pictures from INSIDE the house, so as not to scare him off.
Otherwise known as a "chicken hawk", this is one beautiful bird...must have stood about 18-20 inches tall with about a 3 ft. wingspread.
No wonder the other birds, squirrels and rabbits were nowhere to be found.
The bird was a male (we have a huge book on birds that Wifey's Dad left us), and very well-marked.
He had these huge golden eyes that didn't seem to miss a move anywhere.
Now, I'm not a big one for superstition, but I DO believe in a higher power...and that we are being watched over.
I also believe in appreciating and respecting the EARTH and it's CREATURES (except when ants, roaches or spiders come into the house...a man's gotta have his limits...and I will NEVER 'hug a tree"...just so's you know...lol), so perhaps I share some sort of kinship with Native Americans.
There are some interesting beliefs when it comes to Indians and the hawk.
I gleaned the following from the several Internet sources:
(( The hawk - as totem animal - which means that you are connected in some way....
This means that you either see hawks in your dreams, or see the hawk, often, in your waking state, and you can even have an affinity for the hawk and not know why, feeling in some way a part of or connected on some level, when you think about or gaze upon the hawk.
The hawk itself, is a sign of the great mystery, they carry with them signs and wonders from the world beyond. It is also said that they fly directly, back to the land of the grandfathers, in some Indian lore.
Hawks are helpers, helping us to understand our dreams, don't be surprised if they appear in our dream state, often, bringing messages, that increase our psychic awareness and spirituality. The hawk is showing up to make sure that you proceed with your journey on this earth plane, within the bounds of spiritual balance..))
Now, although I can predict with accuracy the number of homicides in the city most years, and am rarely wrong on other criminal aspects around here...doesn't make me psychic in any way.
But I was told once by someone who knew a Miami Shaman that it's a sign that someone is watching over you...like stopping by to say "hi".
And far be it for me to question a Shaman.
In addition, the lore of the hawk continues:
(( Hawk’s Message: The hawk is a messenger of insight, adaptability and openness, it is also about visionary power and guardianship. Hawk’s meaning teaches us to be observant and to pay attention to what we may overlook. This could mean a talent we don’t use, a blessing for which we haven’t expressed gratitude, or a message from the universe.
The hawk has keen eyesight, it is about opening our eyes and seeing that which is there to guide us. Hawk awakens vision and inspires us to a creative life purpose. Look to the world around you for there are symbols buried in everything.))
Now THAT I can get on board with...and it seems I speak to such things in the epilogues of my posts...all about bettering oneself, and being grateful in life.
I can't find a flaw in any of that.
I've always been one of those God-fearing people that NEVER discounts the METHODS that God can (and often will) use to convey HIS thoughts to every one of us.
It's the whole "...entertaining angels unaware." thing to me.
Anyway, it was a very uplifting experience to have this feathered visitor spend a few minutes at our humble "Fortress", deep down in the crotch of this city.
And if I came away with anything from the event, it was a sense of hope...that things work out through patience and persistence.
-- Now, if only FRONTIER (FIOS) CABLE company would quit messing around with our channels and turn (back) on the ones were paying for (their screwup - not ours)...so we can watch them.
(that's another story for another day, my friends)
DO have yourselves a great weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

03 January 2013

Sometimes, Things Work Out...
If you're used to the weather up in Skagway, Alaska, then this morning will fill the bill.
Single digit temps greet us as we awaken, but later on, we are due for a "warmup"...and that means a high around the upper TWENTIES...!
Talk about your "wow-factor", hmm?
Don't get your hopes up TOO high - we're due for a few snow showers (with little to no accumulation, thank God) later on.
That should make our ghettohood skating rink - aka - our STREETS that much more passable...NOT!
With that dispensed with, let's top off that hot refreshing beverage, and get down to the business-at-hand, shall we?
*** First up, the answer to yesterday's Motto Of The Week:
"No amount of ability is of the slightest avail without honor."
This was spoken by ANDREW CARNEGIE.
And here is the WIKI for this Scottish-born industrialist:
Carnegie is not to be confused with some of the OTHER (dubious) like men of his era - He gave vast sums of his money to create libraries, schools, and universities both here and in the UK.
One has to say he was the TRUE "rags to riches" story, as well as one of this nation's leading entrepreneurs and philanthropists.
Be nice to have a man like THIS in the Presidency, wouldn't it?
Moving on...some updates to previous stories.
*** One of the perps that robbed the USPS office (Diplomat Station - 46806) on 19 December has been caught.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20130103/LOCAL07/301039935/1002/LOCAL
Julius W. Lawson, 34, of 5015 Lillie St. was arrested yesterday by the U.S. Postal Inspector service and the FWPD gang unit and violent crimes unit.
He faces a FEDERAL rap for this gig, as well he should.
He is currently resting his sorry ass in the local jail WITHOUT BAIL!
 (suh-weet).
The second suspect remains at large.
What's that you say?
You'd like to know if Julius has any PRIORS?

==================
How's THAT for one nasty little f$ck, huh?
And the BEST part about all this...the LOCAL prosecutor (Karen "How blond IS my hair?" Richards) has NO chance of plea-dealing his ass down to spme misdemeanor and turning him back out onto MY (or YOUR) streets.
That's called JUSTICE, friends.
LMAO...I was hust thinking - Julius is now wearing ORANGE...
ORANGE JULIUS!
(I crack me up sometimes...)
But wait, we've barely begun...
*** A man charged in the 8 November slaying of a woman in Rockford, Ohio has ALSO been captured.
(wow, a "two-fer")
I mentioned this story back on 14 November.
And here's the UPDATE:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20130103/LOCAL07/301039958/1002/LOCAL
Daniel Charles Martin, 40, whose 1998 red Explorer was found along Smith St down on the city's...(...all together, gang...)...SOUTHEAST side (you sound damn fine this year, folks) not long after the murder in Ohio, was taken into custody in the 5100 block of Bowser St, also on the SE side (and less than a mile radius from OUR "Fortress" ).
I had SAID back on 14 Nov. that the police should check out his friends AND family...and it seemed he DID have family HERE...imagine that.
The ATF was also involved, because Martin was found with an AK-47 style assault rifle. The investigation as to the owner of the weapon is pending.
Now, Martin does not have any active records here in Fort Wayne...he just prefers to kill in other states, apparently.
Well, another piece of human crap is off the streets...for a LONG time, too.
*** More on the last homicide (#30) of 2012.
Here's a story regarding the victim of the antique shop who was murdered:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20130103/LOCAL07/301039965
Seems we had a man who really WAS a nice person, unlike all the fake stories we hear about dead men who had rap sheets as long as your arm, and are ginned up by crocodile-teared relatives who make them look like "good people".
A quiet person, who got around with the aid of a cane...perfect target for robbers.
And Shimer happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The shop had video cameras, but haven't provided any leads to police.
Shimer's wallet and a few coins from a drawer were missing.
Police have no suspects as this point.
*** But this IS a case of a robbery gone STUPID...
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20130103/LOCAL07/301039937
Okay, so a pizza order is placed for an ALL-MEAT PIZZA and 25 HOT WINGS...and the address is near the EDEN GREEN APARTMENTS.
That ALONE should tell you there's going to be black males AND trouble.
And trouble is what TWO delivery men (and we don't even have 2-man FWPD cruisers...go figure) had when they two black males threatened the men with a shotgun, and relieved them of the pizza, the wings, and $4.The robbers then fled on foot.
Thing is, you always need to be aware of your surroundings...and that means even under your FEET.
Police were called to the 2100 block of Greene St. by the deliverymen after the robbery, and it was then the officers saw muddy footprints leading away from the scene. Following the footprints led them to an apartment nearby...to the DOOR of the apartment to be precise.
Arrested were Rhodney A. Lewis, 18, of 1100 block of Greene St, and Junius Brooks, 19, of the 1300 block of Greene St.
Helluva way to start off a criminal career...you dumbasses.
Hope you enjoyed the pizza and hot wings...and ALL those bologna sandwiches you'll be eating for a while, you punk-ass perps.
Looks like NEITHER of you "got sumfin fo nuffin", except some nice flip-flops and orange jumpsuits (an ORANGE JUNIUS...ROFL!)...but you DID have to commit a crime to get THOSE, right?
Yeah, THIS is what an entitlement-sponsored parent produces...offspring with sh*t for brains.
*** And speaking of feces...that D.C. deal has been done...even though we've gone off that cliff.
If you're a smart investor, I'd start grabbing up PORK FUTURES...LOL.
(and not just for the crap the pigs wallow in)
Here's a story that shows just HOW MUCH PORK is in this latest economic "remedy":

Talk about "Bringing home the bacon", right?
I'm glad they printed this stuff, because if you went and TOLD someone about it, they'd think you were NUTS, and that you made it up.
Nah...it's REALITY time, kids...
-- $70 MIL for NASCAR to build racetracks?
Are they f$cking kidding me?
-- $13.50 - an excise tax - PER GALLON OF RUM produced in the USA, and then GIVEN to Puerto Rico...WHY?
-- Promote ELECTRIC SCOOTERS (and motorcycles)...WTH?
-- A credit of $165 MIL per year to repair the railroads?
Gee, if the government hadn't become the major OWNER of them in the first damn place, and left them to remain PRIVATE ENTITIES, they WOULD be in better repair, you sh*theads...Geez!
What a CLUSTERF$CK...!
(of Bibical proportions at that)
*** Lastly, in the final analysis, EACH of us is responsible for OURSELVES.
We chart whatever course we choose, set out and either sink or swim along the way.
Some days we're the dog, and on others, we're the hydrant...there is NO guarantee...only opportunity.
And each one of us has that same chance to DO...or DO NOT.
What bothers me is the government's insistence to run MY LIFE...and YOURS, as well.
I say RUN THE DAMN COUNTY...PERIOD, (and not into the ground)...and leave US THE HELL ALONE.
The NATION needs repair...NOT every individual.
Stop taking us all by the hand and telling what car to drive, which lightbulb to use, which foods to eat, what size sioda to drink...and so on.
Enough is truly ENOUGH...bug the hell OUT of our lives.
If we succeed and prosper...that's on US, and us alone.
Conversely, if we fail miserably, that is ALSO...on us.
But, at least we can get back up...ON OUR OWN...and try again.
Just run the nation as instructed in our founding documents, people.
Leave the REST...to those who voted your asses into office...and PAY YOUR SALARIES, bloated as they are, and as undeserving as you politicians have become to warrant such wages.
Try thinking with your BRAINS for a change...and not with your glands...OR our pocketbooks and wallets, kapeesh?
We can do so much more without your "help".
And we SHOULD.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

02 January 2013

Humpday Happenings...
If you're a banker in Scotland...today is a "holiday", which in the UK doesn't mean you're CLOSED..nor is it a PUBLIC holiday...
It's just CALLED a holiday...for holiday's sake, apparently (to harmonize such days, as they put it).
Aren't you STILL GLAD we won the War for Independence?
Here in the Heartland, we're waking up to single digit temps which will eventually give way to highs in the upper 20s.
Thank God for "global warming", hmm?
*** As you may recall, today is the day we usually have our Military Quote of the Week, but in the spirit of something different, let's try a MOTTO OF THE WEEK.
This could be a city, state, or country...could be a military motto, or even a motto that has come down through the years in the public OR private sector.
And although they are in essence QUOTES, they are something that these people believed and practiced.
I think you might find many of them JUST as applicable today as when they were first spoken.
Here we go:
"No amount of ability is of the slightest avail without honor."
So, WHO SAID THAT?
The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the cliff-side...
*** First up, and UPDATE to the last HOMICIDE of 2012 (which was NUMBER THIRTY).
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20130102/LOCAL07/301029975
It appears the INITIAL report of a shooting was premature.
The actual C.O.D. was blunt-force trauma...ergo the man was beaten to death.
J. Robert Shimer, 58, a store employee was the victim.
According to Journal-Gazette records, the number of homicides is higher than usual for the county.
Over the past three decades, the average number has been TWENTY-FIVE, which is the same number I've been predicting for the last several years. The only difference was that in 2012, I stated that reaching THIRTY was not beyond a possibility.
I will say again that we could very well reach THIRTY...or MORE.
*** Next up, we HAVE gone over the "cliff", despite what the lame-stream media says...we didn't avoid a DAMN thing.
We have managed to postpone the inevitable, however.
Our government has once again been presented with a "patient" (that's we, the people) with a gaping chest wound...and our "Fearless Leader" decided the BEST course of action was a lousy BAND-AID...
That's NOT going to last all that long...not with the DEBT CEILING looming...which will no doubt be RAISED further.
At this rate, our dollar won't be worth the 40 cents it's currently worth.
Then, ALL the dominoes will begin to fall.
What continues to amaze me, is that THIS administration has NO f$cking idea on how to MANAGE (our) MONEY.
Hell, WE know what happens when WE don't take care of OUR funds, right?
But the governemnt, those (our) civil SERVANTS have NO clue.
They just keep spending...and they keep printing, and to hell with tomorrow.
Well folks, TOMORROW is always closer than we think, and it DOES arrive with both frequency AND regularity, does it not?
If the average taxpayer can manage a budget AND income, what the hell is wrong with a government that cannot?
We can't go out and get every damn thing WE want...we usually have to SAVE to get it...or sometimes do WITHOUT.
And many times, we find those things that we THOUGHT we wanted...we really didn't.
So, we spent our money WISELY...and CAUTIOUSLY, and even SAVE for that proverbial rainy day.
We are the ant, and the government is the grasshopper...it's that simple.
Would we be so fortunate that our government would LEARN from it's people...for a change.
*** New Year's Day at our "Fortress" went well, as New Years go...
(even though I didn't see any of the Mummers parade from Philly - no station carried a national broadcast...damn!)
I opened up our matching Walther PPK BB pistols, took them downstairs to our "range" and gave 'em both a TEST DRIVE.
Needless to say, I was NOT disappointed.
Both operated as designed, shot well for short, fixed iron sights (once you compensate after a few rounds), and hit where they were aimed.
Not too shabby at all.
They're not AS powerful as the other pistols I have (the PPK has a muzzle velocity of close to 300 FPS, while the XBG and M&P have muzzle velocities OVER 400 FPS), and you can tell the difference.
The COOL thing about the PPK is that they have a "blowback" feature...looks damn realistic. And along with a manual safety, they also have a de-cock feature, which means no accidental discharge.
(I hate when that happens, especially with PHASERS...lol)
Later in the day, the lovely Mrs. Bobby G. went out and cooked...aka stopped over to China Buffet for take out.
And the food is really fantastic...and they give you SO damn much for the price.
We got shrimp-fried rice (for Wifey) along with crab Rangoon, some egg rolls, and pork lo-mein for me.
Suffice it to say that we'll be having leftovers for DAYS...which breaks down to UNDER $3 a meal...now THAT is frugal (and well-fed)!
And we also got us a new 2013 CALENDAR...which was free!
The calendar has some really cool PANDAS on the scroll (I love the artwork), and that means that THIS year is...the year of the SNAKE...!?!
--To borrow from Momma Fargo:
((...sound of a stylus skating across a record...))
"WTF???"
I though it was a year of the BEAR...didn't see ANY snakes on the calendar.
In fact, the Chinese zodiac HAS NO BEAR in it's animal signs...
Go figure.
Still, they ARE pretty damn cute.
*** Lastly today, all too often we chase after the brass ring on the carousel, and many times we extend our reach too far...with the predictable results.
We fall off the horse.
(our government is chronically guilty of that)
Perhaps we're all not meant to HAVE that brass ring...and that doesn't mean we're not WORTHY of having it.
It means we need to reach closer to home to find our OWN "prize", as it were.
We look at a far distance, see something, and decide we want it, when all we REALLY have to do is look immediately around us and find what we were actually searching for all along.
Becoming content with what you HAVE is many times worth more than being desirous of the unobtainable.
And with such contentment will come a sense of accomplishment...that you did something worthwhile.
Life does not have to be one grandiose thing after another.
It's all about ALL those little things...things we take for granted that accumulate over time and demonstrate to us how MUCH we actually receive.
In that, we should show the gratitude that is deserved.
And therein lies the lesson for today.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.
