Humpday Happenings...
It's the middle of the week, AND the start of a brand new month...welcome to October!
We've got another nice day in the Hoosierland with clearing skies (after some morning fog in outlying areas) and temps climbing to around the 70 degree mark...plus, I have to say that some trees have already begun dropping their leaves.
We're awaiting the color changes to ours first.
THEN they can drop (and we can rake and blow them to the curbside)...not before.
Now, we've plenty on the docket today, so let's say we all grab our morning cup of fortitude and see what trouble we can get into...
*** First out of the hardware store today is our WHO SAID THAT? quote of the week:
"Autumn wins you best by this it's mute appeal to sympathy of it's decay."
(sounds kinda cryptic, doesn't it?)
Still, because it is autumn, it is apropos. So WHO said that anyway?
The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back in the poetry class...
*** Since this is the start of the month, let's take a look at what we will be "celebrating" throughout the next 31 days...and we've quite the list.

And, if you think that TODAY celebrates something weird, friends...you ain't seen nothing yet...
--Today is also my (late) parents anniversary (married in 1949), and I'm sure they are celebrating it together, just not on THIS plane of existence.
*** Next up, we can't forget the past week's worth of SHOTS FIRED CALLS in our fair city (many of which NEVER make the media news), can we?

Check the specific TIMES and locations...you can see where MOST of them occurred.
You also know MORE than any other media source in Fort Wayne...
*** Next up, here's a story about one pathetic individual:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20141001/LOCAL07/310019980
THIS is what is passing for a "parent" in some parts of our city, and I'm sorry, but the word DISGUSTING doesn't quite seem appropriate ENOUGH.
Baby mama has FOUR kids, leaves a 3-year old alone (and who wanders out of the apartment), Police try to take mama into custody and she flees, after nearly hitting children near a bus stop (in her car) near her apartment (Baldwin Creek Apts - East State near Hobson) in which police found drug paraphernalia, and we're supposed to FEEL some sort of SORRY for her?
We're supposed to think that POVERTY is to blame for this societal clusterf$ck?
How about too lazy, ignorant and apathetic to make one GOOD choice in her life?
THIS is what an entitlement mindset looks like. She's another "victicrat"...so we're to believe.
Sorry, I don't buy that one.
Baldwin Creek - Fatal shooting there this time LAST year
She is 27 years old, and one of the (many) charges was never having RECEIVED a (driving) license...and yet, there she was...DRIVING a DAMN CAR (and reckelessly, too)...
How the hell does this happen so often in THIS city?
Zzzzzaaapppp...gotcha!
At least the officer got to deploy his TASER to halt the woman's departure from the scene.
And, the children get a chance to live in a decent place for a while (Paris Laramore, the baby-mama in question was ONLY held in lieu of $2550 bond...what a travesty!).
Sounds and looks like several other baby-mamas around our "Fortress"...the ones that keep slipping through cracks wide enough to drive a semi...pathetic.
And speaking of crime at apartment complexes...
*** The Canterbury Green Apartments have a new owner...with a plan...(haven't we heard this one before elsewhere?)
Here's the story link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20141001/LOCAL/310019985/1002/LOCAL
Seems this once-marvelous place has been on the down-slide for a while, and it took a buyer from PHILLY to realize this.
Used to be one of the BEST apartment complexes in the city...I know, because Wifey once thought of getting us a place there...and we settled for Willow "Crack" Crossing...oh, well...s'okay to be wrong once in a while.
Canterbury Green is not only the biggest complex in the city, but one of the largest in the nation, with it's combination of apartments AND town-homes.
Weird thing about this however...the Allen County assessor lists the value at $56.4 million, and the new investment company PAID $85.5 million.
That's quite some DIFFERENCE in pricing, don'cha think?
Wonder why that was?
While the new investor promises upgrades to amenities (and SECURITY...where rising crime has taken hold in recent years), it still begs the question as to how much BETTER will this make one of the (former) best places to live in the Summit City?
Wanting to return a place to the level of "grandeur" it once enjoyed is ONE thing...making it HAPPEN and making it LAST is another.
We had new owners at Eden Green and not much has changed THERE...time will certainly tell regarding Canterbury, will it not?
*** Last back to the corral today...we keep seeing that whatever problems afflict a neighborhood or even a city, it's usually NOT the result of "things" going wrong...it's PEOPLE going wrong.
It's making bad decisions, one after the other, and no one wanting to call them out on this nasty cycle of repetitive behavior.
It's people who don't take time to vet those moving into a house or apartment and winding up with crime out the butt, because of such lack of protocol.
And yes, it's people that get too wound up on social perks to understand the nuances of ACTUAL social behavior.
Life is not simple, BUT, it can be as good as YOU wish to make it.
Life is full of challenges, but if one chooses to ignore them, or flees from them, nothing in their lives will change, and certainly NOT for the better.
You have to also know your limitations, while exploring your capabilities, and that, in and of itself, is quite the challenge.
But some people won't even go that extra mile...or yard, for that matter, and yet the expect to be treated the same as the rest of us that DO make better choices, and challenge ourselves, and DO test our abilities and capacities when it comes to the human condition.
That needs to be corrected, so that ALL of us get on the same page...that is how a society moves forward, rather than stagnates.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

I just celebrated World Vegetarian Day by eating a roast beef sandwich. Hey, there was lettuce and tomato on it. Those are vegetables, right? Okay, I guess tomato is technically a fruit.

LOL...sounds like you got ALL the bases covered!

I admit to only eating everything BUT veggies today (and with Pizza for dinner, looks like it'll REMAIN that way)

Somehow, carrots & turnips (alone) for breakfast just doesn't sound that "thrilling".
(ditto for lunch and dinner)

Hey, thank for swinging on over today to comment.

Stay safe out there.

It wouldn't take a lot to return Canterbury to some semblance of it's former glory... Like the man said, up security, a little judicious maintenance, and a raised standard for tenants. Unfortunately, the only way to accomplish that legally these days is to up the rent. But they could probably manage that with a good job on the first two.

Chris:
You make very good points on upgrading ANY complex.
I would prefer they start with the LAST point...screw HUD & Section 8!
When you get decent people ANYPLACE, you don't have to worry about needing the first two points nearly as much.
All about PEOPLE, my friend...all about people.

The decline of OUR neighborhood into the 7th layer of Dante's hell over the last dozen or so years is proof to that...(in REVERSE).

The more mooks you get, the faster the decline, too.

Hey, thanks for stopping by to comment.

Stay safe up there, brother.
