Tuesday Tidbits...
Welcome to our Midwest tundra, where the temps never seem to get anywhere close to above freezing.
I heard one weatherman say "we are expecting a warm up"...and I yelled back at the TV:
 "Yeah, it's called SUMMER!".
Today's Hoosierland weather is downright frigid (once again) to start off with - schools on the usual 2-hour delay (even FWCS!).
SE side robberies today.
The high today will reach around TWENTY DEGREES with blowing winds and some snow showers (later on), with no real accumulation...less than an inch ON TOP of everything that has yet to melt. Pastly cloudy skies will follow us around, increasing to mostly cloudy too.
A PERFECT day to be at the perfect job...QC TESTING HEATERS...lol!
"Hey Frank...pass me a wing."
(or have a cookout with some "friends"?)
With that said, let's all get that nice hot cup of our favorite morning drink as we take a look at some other things going on..
*** First off of the pack ice is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
February 24 -
---Today is NATIONAL TORTILLA CHIP DAY...(arriba).
I guess with a bowl of spicy-hot salsa, that would make you feel a tad warmer INSIDE.
*** Next, it's time once again for all those "shots fired" calls that went out in Fort Wayne over the week that NO ONE seems to want to mention in other media sources:

*** Next, a local perp gets his "just dues"...I suppose.
Here's the story link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/Brazen-bandit-given-15-years-for-5-robberies-5197606
A thug that just walked into several establishments, no mask, but with a handgun, getting whatever he wanted...caught and sentenced to FIFTEEN years for his "exploits".
When questioned by FWPD about his antics, he replies "It's just life".
This typical mindset, perpetrated by the lack of role models and a penchant for "fast cash" is what most all these mooks have going for them these days.
And because you didn't ask for it, here is his "rap sheet"

Pretty busy perp, huh? Nice to see some JUSTICE for a change...shame he'll be back in less than 7 years, though. With ALL the firearms charges, he should be going away for DECADES!
Moving on...
*** It seemed that a LOT of people were as intrigued by what the DHS secretary had to say this weekend as I was...
Yes, I CAN talk out BOTH sides of my mouth.
Every program I tuned into was mentioning the SAME things I did...
DO we have a CREDIBLE THREAT with this Al-Shabaab and the Mall of America...or not?
Mark Levin (last night) seemed to quote what I posted yesterday (word for word).
That was cool to hear.
I feel honored to be in such fantastic company, but a lot of us ARE wondering WTF is going on here?
Personally, I think this was a ploy from DHS (directed by our golfer-in-chief) and has become a political volleyball in that the funding for DHS runs out at week's end.
Thing is, this department of our government WILL NOT "shut down" as some pundits has exclaimed with reckless abandon.
It's the THIRD LARGEST DEPARTMENT in our whole government, for God's sake...
Here's the top five:
1) Dept. of Defense
2) Dept of Veteran's Affairs
3) Dept of Homeland Security
4) Dept of the Justice
5) Dept of the Treasury
(other sources list Agriculture as number 5 as of 2011 - guess they hired more at the IRS)
So, you just KNOW these behemoths will not be suffering all that much.
It's said that 85% of DHS is considered "essential personnel", so you figure it out.
*** Next up, it's a damn shame our neighborhood is nothing close to what it USED to be well over a dozen years ago, otherwise, I'd have found a nice job to take - that being a driver for Fort Wayne's CTN (Community Transportation Network) services.
They transport handicapped and disabled folks to hospital, doctor's appointments, and so on.
Here's a link from WANE for the back-story:
http://wane.com/2015/02/23/hiring-drivers/
I've driven vehicles of this size...no biggie, and you can do a background check on me until the cows come home...not a problem, either.
And, believe it or not, I CAN be compassionate...in fact, I USED to be a LOT more so before our area changed (read devolved) into a ghettohood.
Here for the long haul.
Nowadays, I'm one vigilant "sum'bitch"...because I HAVE to be.
And that's the deal-breaker...leaving the "Fortress" unattended every day is NOT my preferred modus operandi...not for a moment with THESE assholes living all around us.
It's just not a viable option to me at this time.
I can only imagine what could occur...might not even have a house to come home to, with the "floating arsonists" we seem to have on the SE side.
Not to mention all the numerous burglaries and vandals in the area weekly.
Damn shame, too...for everyone concerned, but you do what you HAVE to do, no matter how it changes one's life.
*** Last back to the glacier...one of the things that was nice about where we used to live (and where I grew up) in Philly, were the families.
There was a lot of what we called APPRECIATION, and with good reason...
Everyone looked out for one another, watched each others' kids, helped in any capacity for no other reason other than they COULD...and WOULD.
THAT is what makes a real community (to me).
And, for a while HERE, we had something approximating that.
Truth be told, nothing ever seems to stay that way...life is about change...LOTS of change. Some good...some bad.
Our ability to adapt to whatever does come our way makes us better people.
It's when we fail in this manner that we lose something of ourselves.
Sometimes, we have to become someone we would much rather not.
I don't WANT to be a person who HAS to "man the watchtower" ALL the time, but given the circumstances, and the particular venue we find ourselves, it's either accept the fact that the city doesn't give a rat's ass about OUR part of town, OR give up, give in, turn the area completely over to those less deserving of it...and move away (like some have done in the past).
That is akin to surrendering when YOU are holding the high ground...and that is (also) NOT an option for me.
Never was...never will be.
Good neighborhoods should never have to succumb to the lowlifes of the world, but they often do.
And ghettos never need to spread, but THEY do as well.
I will confess that finding an ally here is harder to come by than a decent neighbor...or job.
But the alternative to staying here is something I haven't the time to contemplate, (multi-million dollar lottery wins aside...lol)
You do what you have to, because it's YOUR life...YOUR home...and YOUR family.
Some days, it even seems worth it, even if such days are few and far between.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Geesh. Steward's rap sheet is pretty short compared to the recent ones. LOL. It is a little chilly in this neck of the woods. We are getting inundated with students avoiding malls and Italy. Oy.

Yeah, it's not THAT long...for the last FOUR years (alone)...lol.

He has been busy.
(but not for a while)

O was out in some sub-zero weather, and as long as the SUN is shining on you...AND there's no WIND, it's totally doable for a spell.
Today up here, we HAVE got WINDS...and it DOES feel colder.
(I second that "OY!")

Thanks much for taking time to roll up today and comment.

Stay safe & warm down there, dera.

Magellan goes exploring without his lights on... what a tool.

Too bad you couldn't hire someone... you know, with a gun... to house sit whilst you're driving. But, that would probably make whatever pay there was a wash. Maybe you could borrow "Handles..."

I purposely refrained from doing any "explorer" jokes, in the hope that you would run with it...
You did NOT disappoint.

Yeah, it's tough to limit your vacations (if one can call them that) to DAY-TRIPS.

I could use "Handles" some days.
(make that every day)

A FULLY-functioning "sonic" would work well enough, also.

Thanks a lot for stopping on by today to comment.
You stay safe AND warm up there, brother.
