Welcome to a rather cloudy morning here in the Heartland.
I can see a related connection to this day already.
Our Hooiserland weather will have us reaching a high of around 84 (almost like yesterday) with a 20 % chance of a shower sometime during the day. Got a little drizzle (outside) now.
We'll also have partly to mostly cloudy skies.
I trust you all put your flags outside, anyway.
Now, get your morning cup of Memorial Day fortitude poured and parked alongside as we see what is going on elsewhere.
*** First up, is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
May 25 -
---Today is NATIONAL MISSING CHILDRENS DAY.
---It's also TAP DANCING DAY.
---It's VICTORIA DAY in CANADA.
---And today is the ORIGINAL STAR WARS DAY.
(having first hit theaters a LONG time ago in a movie house far, far away).
May the FORCE be with you...always.
---And, it is...MEMORIAL DAY, and that is the focus of today's post.
*** This is a very important day in our nation, and it isn't just happening at places like Arlington National Cemetery.
The Old Guard has been busy placing American flags on EVERY SINGLE GRAVE in that hallowed place. And that is a LOT of flags, people.
All over America, similar events are taking place - honor guards, flag ceremonies, military bands...all dedicating their time to those who cannot be here to accept our thanks.
There is a DISTINCT DIFFERENCE between MEMORIAL DAY and VETERANS DAY.
Today we remember and "memorialize" those who served and died in the line of duty for our armed services.
WE speak for them when they cannot on this day of remembrance..
Veterans Day is to honor ALL those who have served in the military.
We pause to thank all who have served living and dead.
*** Now for those REALLY IMPORTANT words that speak volumes - words that should be burned into our minds every day as we enjoy the freedom our armed service members fought and died to preserve.
THAT is what TODAY is ALL ABOUT.
Let's always remember that...and pass it along.
May God forever watch over the fallen and protect their families.
