Tuesday Tidbits...

Not a single thing wrong with the manner in which THIS day is starting out (until someone comes along and f*cks it up...lol)...got us a very nice sunrise, even if it is a bit on the cooler side (that means COMFORTABLE to me, folks) out there.
The rest of our Hooiserland weather has us enjoying a wonderfully moderate high somewhere into the upper FIFTIES.
Like I said...comfortable.
No rain to speak of, some passing on by and mild breezes top off a very nice Spring day here in the Midwest. So, let's get a nice refreshing cup or glass of our favorite morning drink and see what has been going on elsewhere...

This need to be "inclusive" when it doesn't warrant it is part of our societal problems these days.
Whatever happened to the whole "separate but equal" phrase we USED to hear?
We all but FORCED integration and what happens in our cities?
The people who WANTED to be integrated started to SEGREGATE themselves all over again...imagine that. But, that's another story for another day...

Nice to see a "helpful" robber...

Since this year, there has been this twosome of black males robbing dollar stores.
I would have to say that they are ALSO responsible for hitting various convenience stores/gas stations around the city, like the Marathon Station on Coldwater Rd this past Friday night.
Naturally, the police want your help.
*** Next up, remember all the fallout from the road repairs going on along Lower Huntinton Rd over the last MONTH or so?

Well, Frank Gray had a story about a business owner that has been hit with hard times from this ongoing repair. Here's the story:

Imagine that...the CITY dragging it's anchor with THIS repair.
On the other hand, there was a water main break up on Coldwater Rd yesterday has ALREADY been fixed.

Now, granted, this was MORE of an emergency, but it shows how FAST the city CAN operate when prodded.
What I fail to understand, is WHY the city chose to dig up the WHOLE stretch of Lower Huntington, when all that was needed was a NEW SURFACE...and not some foot deep trench carved along that piece of road.  Could have spread some tar, steam-roller it and be done in less than a week,

It's due to be completed sometime in JUNE.
Meanwhile, businesses continue to suffer...like Jerry's marathon, and Penguin Point.
Guess this is the "new tactic" for the SOUTH side - make things SO bad that people close up shop and leave.
I dunno...worked damn well on the south-EAST side...seen it too many times over the years.
Well, as for me and the Missus, we WILL get food from Penguin Point, and between you and me, Jerry's has some GREAT donuts.
*** Next up, Obama grabs a pen, signs ANOTHER executive order, and screws this nation's police once AGAIN.

Shame to lose it - gets good mileage

Okay, so now that surplus gear will have LIMITS...so much for saving a few bucks...and saving lives, hmm?
Many department like the fact that they got a deal on some mil-spec hardware...like HELMETS.
Around here, the FWPD stopped the fed program and instead, opted to BUY new gear from private suppliers.

Technically, it IS "street-legal".

But we STILL have that surplus Commando V-150 rolling around, like yesterday's SWAT situation with an armed and suicidal man.

To me, it comes down to one simple aspect of policing.- INTIMIDATION.
And there is a REASON for that in CERTAIN situations.
(notice the word "certain" and not ALL)

When you HAVE to "reach out" to someone...

In a riot scenario, you WANT the police to be on their "A" game, because the crowds are usually belligerent, and want to intimidate anyone and everyone. The best RESPONSE to that is GREATER intimidation...on behalf of the police charged with getting such a situation UNDER CONTROL, and ASAP. To do less invites the type of carnage seen in Ferguson and Baltimore.

Tampa, FL seems to need one...

There is no such thing as a "hands-off" approach to rioting crowds, unless you PREFER to see whole city blocks vandalized and burned to the ground.
To me, having the BEST-equipped police in our cities, towns, and states is, and should always be job-one.

And ALL THIS is just around your WAIST!

You never give the bad guys room to thrive...you get them off the streets...period.
If they can walk away...fine. If you have to carry 'em...fine. And if the coroner is called...fine.
But the use of such force is NEVER the start to such things...it is the END, the ANSWER to lawlessness...never forget that.
*** Last back to the garage...we shouldn't HAVE to have laws, and certainly never AS MANY as we currently do, but there IS a reason for them.

We have laws for the LAWLESS among us...it's that simple.
Law-abiding people don;t break the law, and if we didn't have laws, they would police themselves just fine enough.
If you look back at the history of law-enforcement, every step taken to protect the public has been done with much thought.
And when you have bad guys around...you need some good guys to balance the scales of justice.
It's when someone places their "thumb on the scale" that we have problems...like taking gear from police...it's the beginning of a nasty "trend" I can see coming - the emasculation OF our local police departments for the creation of a NATIONAL police force.
I've spoken about that, and how "well" that worked out in 1930s Germany (it didn't).
Police ARE being targeted by the bad guys, because THEY know the cops might start second-guessing themselves while on the job.

This gives the bad guys a slight upper hand here...they have the edge in the CONTROL column...for the moment.
It's time to stop allowing people to "egg on" the LEOs out there,because that is causing more furor that's not needed.
What IS needed is law-ENFORCEMENT...protection of the average citizen, and heavy hand on the neck of those who would harm or take from those following the letters of our laws.
