Thoughts For Thursday...
Almost to the end of the week, and we've got a somewhat blustery start to a day which should seem much better than the previous one.
The rain has finally moved on, and left a crap-load of fallen leaves everywhere.
We had our share of accidents across the city yesterday, which makes me think some folks didn't heed my cautionary warning about wet leaves and vehicular stopping abilities...oh, well.
Our Hoosierland weather has us with a much cooler day, with temps only reaching into the upper FORTIES.
We might get some early sun before more clouds roll in to grey up another day for us.
And don't forget those gusty WINDS outside today, which, if they blow just the RIGHT way, might make clearing the leaves a lot easier for me.
Hey, I JUST raked that two days ago...what the hell?
So, with that behind us, let's all get a cup or glass of our favorite drink and look to the day and everythng it may bring our way...
*** First out of the pumpkin patch is the answer to yesterday's WHO SAID THAT? quote:
"A person who is fundamentally honest doesn't need a code of ethics. The Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount are all the ethical code anybody needs."
This was spoken by our 33rd President, Harry S. Truman (May 8, 1884 - December 26, 1972)
And here is his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_S._Truman
Hard to believe he was FDR's running mate, as there were a few difference s between these men.
While we could not call him a conservative, he DID believe that civil rights for minorities was a MORAL imperative and sought to integrate the military and federal agencies.
His administration was tainted by corruption (sounds all too familiar), mostly in his cabinet and senior White House staff., and this figured into his seeking a second term, as Adlai Stevenson was the democratic nominee, and he lost to Dwight Eisenhower.
The WIKI is a good read, and provides a lot of Truman's backstory, as he seems to be one of the more moderate democrats, who did still have some conservative values. It's worth a few minutes of your time.
*** Next up, we bring you our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
October 29 -
---Today is NATIONAL CAT DAY
Lasagna for everyone!
(Got a feeling that Garfield is loving this one)
---It's also OATMEAL DAY
Maple and brown sugar is MY favorite.
(I had some yesterday, and might do so again today...because I can)
---And, it's NATIONAL HERMIT DAY
Nice to be secluded once in a while.
(nothing wrong with being one in today's world)
*** Next up, Alyssa Ivanson from WANE had a VERY good story on last night's news about the CRIME STATS we heard (or read) about during the Mayoral debate in Fort Wayne.
Here's the link to her article:
http://wane.com/2015/10/28/15-finds-out-mayoral-debate-fact-checking/
It would appear that many of the stats quoted in the debate, especially my candidate Mitch Harper were MORE correct than many of King Henry's.
You can enlarge the pictures on their website to read the statistics.
And she interviewed the president of the FOP here, FWPD Sgt. Mitch McKinney, who, curiously enough says many of the exact SAME things you've heard me talk about here when it comes to VIOLENT crime being on the rise, and an INADEQUATE NUMBER of officers on our streets.
Wonder why we know so much of the same things to be true?
While OVERALL crime is on the DECLINE, it's the VIOLENT CRIME that gets the news (if it bleeds, it leads) with a RISE in activity.
But, there are also ALL the assaults and robberies, which are RISING (check the police blotter).
To say we DON'T have a crime problem is to stick your head in the sand, which city administrations have done over the past several decades quite well down here. And we wonder why businesses have LEFT and new ones won't touch this part of town with a ten-foot pole?
(someone would come along, hold them up and STEAL the damn pole)
It's a really eye-opening read and I'm glad to see SOMEONE taking up the "15 Finds Out" mantle after Adam Widener left.
*** Speaking of crime, we have some a story and pictures of some "gun-loving" young men, out for a day's activities.
Here's the link to the lowdown:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/Police-looking-for-armed-robbers-9595303
Yeah, nice to see people getting out in the fresh fall air, enjoying the foliage and doing what people usually do when they're too lazy to work for a living...like ROBBING a gas station, and in broad daylight, too..
(Guess the SE side has slim pickings these days?)
This took place on 26 October around 1540 hrs at the BP station located at 909 E. Coliseum Blvd.
Two robbers, both brandishing handguns took money from the register.
They (may have) left in a black Ford Taurus, according to witnesses.
And they're still at large, but prints weer collected from a Snapple bottle that was taken as evidence from one of the men who left the bottle at the counter just before the robbery.
So, it's up to the detectives now, isn't it?
*** Uh, oh...another march against GUN violence on the SE side of town.
(can a call for confiscation be that far behind?)
Here's the article verbatim from the J-G:
(( Recent shootings prompt walk
The Rev. Carlton Lynch of the National Action Network and senior pastor of New Beginnings Church in Fort Wayne, is organizing a Code Red Community Walk and Awareness Service today in response to recent shootings in the city.
The walk will begin at 6:30 p.m. today at 820 E. Washington Blvd. and lead to Tree of Life Baptist Church, 520 E. Washington Blvd., where the service will begin at 7 p.m. ))
Only THREE blocks? That's sure to accomplish little...(as usual).
Try marching AROUND CITY HALL...and be sure to be LOUD (like you always are).
*** And speaking of USUAL stuff, there's this gem from our own "councilhack", Glynn Hines:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/Hines-sees-link-in-safety--investors-9595937
Yep, Hines would like to see businesses down here.
Well, Mr race-card, how's about we start with getting rid of CRIME perpetuated mostly all by YOUR people ?
The only whites we have doing crime are those involved with blacks or meth heads, so you can't blame "Whitey" for this one. It's ALL on you and YOUR people.
Hines doesn't think (that's HIS problem, not mine) the police in the SE interact in a respectful manner to citizens.
Funny, I NEVER had an issues with ANY officer when they came to OUR house.
Maybe it has something to do with MUTUAL RESPECT...'ya think?
I will know what it is with today's dumbocrats that can never seem to see the forest for the trees.
They want to stop GUN violence (by stricter controls on guns)
Excuse me, let's try starting with the PEOPLE using the damn guns, you morons.
They say they want to bring businesses to the south side.
Fine, start by getting YOUR people in line and teach them how to act in a CIVIL manner.
This is one mulberry bush these folks just LOVE to go 'round.
*** Next, I did not watch the GOP debate last night, NOR did I watch the World Series...Arrow was on the CW, so why bother with anything else.
But I did see some of the clips from the debate, and I have to say it was "spirited" in nature.
Also, when you have LIBERAL moderators, it's perfect;ly okay to confront THEM (as some of the candidates apparently did).
If you're moderating and YOU don't have the facts when presenting questions to the participants IN a debate, expect them to question you about it...
From what I gathered from the clips, the questions posed to candidates seemed laced with nonsense.
Not a good showing for the MEDIA there, was it?
Yeah, I nailed it...just like that.
I will say that Ted Cruz came across with some of the best COMMON SENSE.of the evening.
*** Last back to the cornfield...I swear (because I know all the words) that if I EVER could make these libtards fully understand the problems we face in this nation , our cities and on our streets, instead of all the perceived issues they trumpet as SO much moire important, I could have retired to a proper estate someplace far from these madding crowds.
What possesses people to chase after illogical things while totally ignoring the clear and presnet problem we face every day baffles the hell outta me.
When you speak about crime...it's always going DOWN - FALSE.
When you speak to poverty, it's never enough money - FALSE.
When you point out specific issues among minority communities, you're racist - FALSE.
When you get "knowledged up" on things while others don't, you're at fault - FALSE.
When you see wrong behavior rewarded, you must be the one who's not "with it" - FALSE.
When tax money is wasted on frivolous pursuits, you are the one who doesn't "get it" - FALSE.
You can clearly see that what was ONCE a correct line of thinking, asking questions, and an overall learning process has been turned on it's ear,
And why people ALLOW it to continue also confuses me.
Like I say, this is NOT the world I was brought up in, and it certainly isn't the one MY parents grew up in.
That's not to say we can't change things for the better...we should. We need to.
And we need to do it SOON, before what we once knew to be our nation becomes a distant memory.
Values, principles, and plain old common sense, based in the roots of ethical and moral behavior should rule the day, and not the whims of socialists.
I think you would agree on that.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

I didn't hear as much about the debate as you did... I seem to have lost interest. Wait a few months to when the "cream" rises to the top, and figure it out then.

Hines' version of a respectful manner is pucker up on my butt. Not much of a chance of getting that, buddie. Respect is EARNED, in this case as in all of life.

And leave it to you to find a good reason to sneak Alyssa onto the blog. I wish she sang, I'd love to have her on the Time Machine Beauty Contest in a few weeks, lol!

Chris:
--I just watched the "roundup" POST debate on FOX...they do the best job and SAY something when they speak (unlike the lame-stream media).
There were some good moments, but the damn moderators were the ones deviating from the actual debate.

--100% correct with respect and life.
Wish those who DEMAND it would try the EARNING aspect of it...might work out MUCH better with everyone, including the POLICE.

--Alyssa is definitely some local hotness.
(and she's not that bad a journalist)

Wonder when she's planning on leaving here like all her predecessors? (hope not).

Thanks for dropping by today and commenting.
Got the annual Halloween post tomorrow...lol.
(should be fun - or not...heh)

Do stay safe up there, brother.
