Tuesday Tidbits...
Although we start this day on the mild side, we'll not be reaching the temps we had yesterday.
It would appear that fall has arrived, based on the forecast for the remainder of the week.
Our Hoosierland weather will have us seeing mostly cloudy skies, with a high today of around the 60-degree mark.
There is talk of FROST by the weekend...there go our plants. So what say we all get ourselves a nice soothing beverage poured as we take a look at what has been going on elsewhere?
*** First out of the cupboard this morning is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
October 13 -
---Today is NATIONAL TRAIN YOUR BRAIN DAY
(I know some "locals" that could USE an obedience school for THEIRS...heh)
---It's also NATIONAL YORKSHIRE PUDDING DAY
(and there are NO terrier dogs in this recipe...I promise)
---And, it's also the BIRTHDAY of the UNITED STATES NAVY.
Kicking Ass for 240 years!
(anchors aweigh, people)
It also happens to be the birthday of PAUL SIMON, who turns 74, and MARIE OSMOND
( who at 56 still looks friggin' hot (to me, anyway)
*** Next up, it's time to take a look at ALL the morons, idiots and imbeciles that have this penchant for the need to play with firearms...the police calls that YOU never hear about (unless someone gets shot in the ass, as did two people this week).

================================
FIREWORKS CALLS - 10/5 -  10/11
((NONE - freaking AMAZING!))
============================
*** Next up, it looks like City Clerk Sandy Kennedy is resigning her position after all...imagine that. Here's the story:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local/City-Clerk-Kennedy-to-resign--attorney-says
Wow, talk about another real coincidence.
The FWCS board president just HAPPENS to be Sandy's attorney...never could have seen that one coming (he said sarcastically).
The reason given for her rather rapid departure (by week's end) is health reasons (job stress).
I dunno, when I got my hand caught in the cookie jar, I know I backed off rather quickly (as a youth).
Deputy clerk Angie Davis might not be a confirmed candidate for the job, either.
Kennedy was appointed to the Board of Public Works under the Win Moses administration (that says something there) back in 1980, and became City Clerk in 1983 when after then-clerk Charles Westerman was convicted of stealing $670 in parking ticket receipts.
OOPS!
I keep hearing that (Rahm Emanuel) phrase: "Never lets a good crisis go to waste"...wonder why that is?
*** Next up, FWPD arrested two wiggers for manufacturing the synthetic drug "spice" Monday.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/Two-arrested-in-spice-raids-9321644
This took place in the 2500 block of West State Court around 1200 hrs yesterday.
Lance                            Carrie
Taken into custody were Lance Morningstar (26) Carrie Morningstar (41)..
And what a "lovely" twosome they are.
They were charged with dealing synthetic marijuana, dealing marijuana, and neglect of a dependent.
Who'da thunk all that?
Guess those seven POUNDS of spice, one pound of marijuana, 700 grams of chemicals used to make spice, and $20K in cash that happened to be in the house had SOMETHING to do with it, hmm?
Two more losers taken off the street, and about time, too.
Nice job.
*** Next up...when I was young and went to the theater with my folks, we ALWAYS got a huge coke to go with the popcorn, Good N Plenty, Sno-Caps, Junior Mints, and other assorted goodies when we watched the movie. Well-priced in those days, too.
And we were always quiet (thanks to the ushers).
A REAL movie theater.
When I got older, I'd still get the soda and popcorn...kind of a "tradition " to me, and when I watch something on DVD for the first time, I have a soda and popcorn.
Some habits die hard, don't they?
Now, when movies started serving NACHOS, I was like..."huh, wha...?"
You just don't eat something that crunchy (or that sloppy) in a theater, in my opinion.
Hey... hot, buttered popcorn is messy enough, right?
Then, they went and added numerous OTHER foods (not confections).
Turned movie houses into bloody fast food joints (at highway-robbery prices to boot).
Sadly, movie houses have not looked back since.
So, you can imagine MY personal disdain when I see a headline that reads:
"Carmike gets approval to sell alcohol".
((...record-scratch...!!!))
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/Carmike-gets-approval-to-sell-alcohol-9315854
What the hell is WRONG with you 'effin people???
It's bad enough we have underage drinking all over, and people shooting one another in the parking lot of various bars around town, but NOW, you have to have BOOZE in a damn MOVIE THEATER?
I just have to ask the obvious question - WHY???
Can't people just go to a movie and be able to ENJOY it, without someone getting shit-faced drunk and RUINING the experience for everyone else, because you all KNOW that is exactly what will happen, and you don't have to be some sociologist and psychologist to figure that one the hell out.
I know I don't like movie going, because the animals that wind up going there make sure you can't enjoy the film.
They hoot and holler during the flick.
Worse than enduring the "big hair-afro" era, believe me.
And there there are those who think the movies is the PERFECT place to take an infant to get some sleep...WRONG.
New sound systems see to that easily enough.
But now, we just HAVE to add in BOOZE...what a f*cking lunatic idea.
Here's an article from earlier in the year:
http://www.cadca.org/blog/alcohol-coming-theater-near-you
Some claim there has NOT been an incident of under-age drinking (to date...yet), but how about some stats regarding people tossed out for getting wasted?
Seriously?
Mind you, I might need a drink (or several) AFTER I waste over TWO hours of my life putting up with all the morons who loused up a good movie by talking THROUGH it, or chatting on their SMARTPHONE while it was on the screen, but I sure as hell don't need alcohol while WATCHING a movie.
That is reserved solely for AT HOME viewing, and even then , it's such a rarity, I don't bother.
You just KNOW this will go over like a pregnant pole-vaulter.
*** Last back to the pantry...mankind never ceases to amaze me in the manner in which it tries to screw things up for many while rewarding a few for such bad behavior.
It's the LATTER one.
Now, I don't know if it's done by design or on purpose, but it doesn't advance our society one bit, except to further point out more ways to practice stupidity with the predictable results.
I see drunks staggering on city streets, so I don't need to see or hear them in movie theaters.
That should be a bastion of more CIVIL behavior.
Hell, they banned SMOKING in movie houses (usually reserved for the balconies in the older venues), but they add booze (that could have been brought inside under a coat).
And yet, society frowns on what happens when people don't take the time to "drink responsibly"...
Just add up the traffic accidents that kill people from impaired driving each year...or the babies that suffer from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, or the airline pilot that may or may not be "under the influence".
What happened to this RESPONSIBILITY in THESE cases?
I guess such notions only apply when it's convenient?
It's stuff like this that stifles the possibilities we COULD avail ourselves of, while fostering a false sens of contentment.
Yeah, I've seen people "falling down content" many times.
I have no problem with alcohol...I drink when I feel like it, and never to the point of losing control...been there, done that, and thankfully never got into ANY circumstance that required intervention by law-enforcement or others.
Just a few very STERN talks with Dad.
Sooner or later though, YOU have to take responsibility for YOU, because the alternative of having someone ELSE do it for you results in free flip-flops and a striped or orange jumpsuit, and they don't look all that flattering.
Let such things be the lesson we seek every day.
We ARE better than that.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

My brain is sufficiently trained. It can roll over, play dead, and go fetch, often at the same time.

Carmike is just trying to compete with that place that serves dinner during the movie... I've had a beer there myself. But I haven't been there since the first Avengers movie blew their speakers halfway through.

It's a tid distracting and a bit expensive, but it's also pretty fun when you get down to it.

Now, if they want to serve booze w/o the meal, hopefully the state will put them in a whole new category, requiring "family rooms", etc. That might change their minds.

Chris:

--LOL...lemme guess...and you "trained" Scrappy too?
(or was it the OTHER way around?)
--LMAO...blew their speakers...God, I haven't had THAT happen since a very LONG time ago when a place back in Philly dumped a channel after some loud thing that was going on...they switched it back to MONO, and it sounded fine after that.
(that NEVER happens at OUR house...heh.)
--It USED to be fun...like seeing the GODFATHER and hearing people GASP, or Star Trek 2 - Wrath of Khan and hearing people WEEP when Spock died...or better yet...when seeing the FIRST Star Wars flick and hearing everyone CHEER and APPLAUD at the end!
(coulda heard a pin drop during the movie, too)
THAT was fun.
--I just think we're endorsing behavior that has a place OTHER than a theater..unless we're trying to turn a PUBLIC place into EVERYONE'S living room...that seem's their intent.
They way they trash the places tells you a lot about those going to movies & sitting near you...scary stuff.

Hey, thanks for stopping by to comment.

Stay safe up there, brother.
