Tuesday Tidbits...
Okay, so it's ANOTHER cloudy day out there.
Helluva pattern we're developing for the month of December, isn't it?
We have not had ONE sunny (fair) day yet (maybe a couple peeks here and there)
Our Hoosierland weather for today finds us with (you guessed it). cloudy skies and the chance of rain throughout the day, ending by late afternoon (take your umbrella). Highs today are expected to top out around 38 degrees. Gonna be down in the 20s tonight.
Must be Tuesday after all.
So what say we chase the chill away with a hot beverage as we all get ready to "suit up" for what today will bring...fair enough?
*** First out of the coat closet is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
DECEMBER 6 -
---Today is World Trick Shot Day
(put down the pool cues - it's a Globetrotter thing)
---It's National Pawnbrokers Day
(unknowingly fencing stolen goods for years...but no longer)
---It's National Microwave Oven Day
(that's every day in our home)
---It's National Gazpacho Day
(only if you're Latino)
---It's Saint Nicholas Day
(check the catholic calendar...it's true)
---It's National Miners' Day
(for all those who toil UNDER the earth)
*** And since it's Tuesday, let's check out all those police calls the media conveniently FORGOT to tell us about, because they're busy with all that "fake news"...

FIREWORKS CALLS 11/28 - 12/4
===========================
Dec 4 -
16F165011 12/04/2016 09:17am 44FW 2200 MAPLEWOOD RD
*** Next, and speaking of crime, this seems kinda ODD:
http://wane.com/2016/12/05/fwfd-investigating-fire-neighbors-identify-victim/
What''s odd is that a person was found in a crawl space dead after a house fire.
This took place around 1430 hrs at 6902 Penrose Drive (NE).
The story goes on to say that the victim was male and that (according to neighbors) he was wheelchair-bound.
So, HOW does a person in a wheelchair wind up dead in a crawl space under his own house, anyway?
Lots more here than meets the eye, right?
*** Next, in a story relating to the police stats above, there's THIS:
http://wane.com/2016/12/05/fwpd-woman-calls-911-after-being-shot-in-the-head/
This took place back on 3 December, around 2030 hrs in the 3300 block of Cheviot Drive (nice ghettoized area), where a woman reported to police that she has been shot (in the head) from a drive-by.
She was taken to hospital in fair condition.
*** Next up, let's check out some of the daily STUPID, just because we can...
---Question: What happens when you don't have any oversight with spending?
Answer: You get stories like THIS one:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/us/Pentagon-hid-study-on-waste-16687255
Yep, our "friends" at the Pentagon took it upon themselves to HIDE about $125 BILLION (with a "B") of WASTE.
And to top it all off, it was ADMINISTRATIVE WASTE.
Yeah, that's a LOT of waste!
(( Pentagon leaders had requested the study to help make their enormous back-office bureaucracy more efficient and reinvest any savings in combat power. But after the project documented far more wasteful spending than expected, senior defense officials moved swiftly to kill it by discrediting and suppressing the results. ))
Uh oh...can YOU say "OOPS"?
A little late for this administration to FIND this clusterf*ck, isn't it?
That's the SAME administration that has been spending money like a bunch of drunken sailors on liberty for the last 8 years.
And only NOW, they figure out all this moolah was wasted on administrative "costs"...while others stated our MILITARY costs are too high? Maybe we cut the front officer a LOT...to save our troops?
Just a thought, people.
---Question: Why do people change things for no good reason?
Answer: Because they CAN.
And, this little tale I'm about to relate says it all.
Yesterday, I wanted to order the K-Mart holiday plush bear for 2016, and have it shipped (free) to their "partner", Sears at Glenbrook. Then, Wifey goes and picks it up this weekend.
This was the exact same thing I did LAST year, and it went smoothly enough.
Well, THIS year, you can't do that. You only have TWO options:
1) Pick the bear up at the store (closest K-Mart is in WARSAW, INDIANA) or...
2) Have the bear shipped to your HOUSE (at a cost of $3.99 in addition)
Needless to say, we went for number 2 (driving to Warsaw wasn't worth 4 bucks)
Now, people at Sears couldn't solve the problem and said this was due to availability. Then why ADVERTISE the bear when you DON'T HAVE THEM?
If they left well enough alone, things would have worked out a lot more smoothly.
---Question: What happens in the aftermath of a fire that consumes an illegally-converted warehouse?
Answer: Stories such as THIS one:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/us/Warehouse-manager-sorry-16688474
This was that place that burned down in Oakland, killing close to 40 people inside, because what passes for an "owner" didn't know that when such a conversion to LIVING areas is made, it's required by fire code that you have SOME sort of suppression system in the damn building...like SPRINKLERS.
Well, the owner is sorry...yeah, that helps a whole helluva lot, doesn't it? Dipshit.
Cut some corners, and you cut some lives short...guess that's how they do things in California these days.
*** Next up, this might not qualify as being blatantly "stupid", but it runs a close second.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/indiana/Aging-water-systems-need-billions-in-repairs-16684837
Wow...Indiana has AGING WATER SYSTEMS...and the cost to fix the problem will run into the BILLIONS.
Now, who'da ever thunk THAT, hmm?
The systems are apparently reaching or in some cases, exceeding their lifespan, and leaking mains are causing issues statewide (we have our share just in Fort Wayne).
Winter weather will only help to hasten developing problems, too. We know that much.
But, not to worry, our city is getting a GREAT downtown and riverfront.
Wonder how THAT $600 MIL, 5 tier plan will sit on that MAJOR sewer job we were supposed to be doing?
We used to call such things PRIORITIES, as in taking care of what NEEDS it the most...first.
*** Next, let's talk kittens...
Can I yawn in peace?
Okay, so we know cats are curious...that's a given.
Quietly plotting her next "adventure".
Our newbies are no exception. We've seen how they would love to get into the fridge.
Now, they would like to get into the "lazy Susan" we have in the lower kitchen cabinets. Chased them both out of there a couple time already. Don't feel much like taking the thing apart to extricate them, either.
We're also dealing with CLAWS...as in the cats using them where they're not supposed to. No damage yet to anything visible, but it could happen. Be NICE to have a damn PET STORE nearby so we could get them a scratching post. Yeah, Walmart's got a couple, but not what we're looking for. back to online shopping, no doubt.
Gonna be an interesting holiday season.
*** Last back to the umbrella stand (they still have those?)...we seem to be surrounded by wasteful people.
If it's not some locals, it's our city, or worse yet...the Feds.
You see evidence of it every day, too.
People waste TONS of food every year in America, in this is very noticeable in our schools (about $30K a year just at FWCS). All the lawn trash consisting of half-eaten fast food is also clear evidence.
We waste food, gas, water, electricity, time, and yes, even human life.
We are a wasteful lot, generally-speaking, and to what end?
What the hell happens when there's nothing LEFT to waste? What do we do then?
Probably steal from one another, killing if necessary.
Not a happy prospect, is it?
Nothing wasted there.
At this time of year, when we celebrate the bounty we are allowed to have through charity or through hard work, we need to be mindful of what we have, and how easily it could all go away.
This ain't no "tree-hugging, save-the-earth, green everything up" speech...
It's just some down-home, plain old-fashioned COMMON SENSE.
And, if more of us (who needed it) had a modicum of that, we'd ALL be a lot better off.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Perhaps the wheel chair dude fell down the stairs with a lit cigarette or left a candle burning upstairs.

How about that cold weather, Bob? Snow?

And the shots fired and fireworks are just distractions.

I think FW is going to be the next new hot spot for serial killers and unexplained deaths. Hmm...

---Can't really say about the man in that fire...sure doesn't feel right (to me).
---As for the SNOW?
I either want a REAL snowfall, or none at all...This piddly-ass hit and miss crap is annoying as all hell...lol.
---It wouldn't surprise me that the shots/FW stuff ARE distractions - keep the po-po someplace ELSE while other shit goes down. Makes sense.
---This city is earnestly WORKING along those lines...and I have NO idea why they'd want to go down that path.
Crazy-ass people...too many of 'em.
Thanks for rolling up today to comment.

You stay safe (and warm) down there, dear.

Question: Did Superman respond to the shots at Lois Lane?

Statement: By now, you have seen that the FWPD Columbos have figured out that the guy in the fire fell through the floor in the course of the incident.

Still, gotta wonder how a crawl space catches. Prolly gonna end up pinning this one on Mr Stripped Wire.

Observation: If you need to waste to keep the budget funds coming, you can waste a LOT of money.

Another observation: If Sears could find its corporate ass with both hands, they wouldn't be tethered to that "partner" in the first place.

Accusation: That warehouse owner didn't "not realize" shit. He had turned that warehouse into a maze of crappy living spaces and instructed tenants to hide "living there" items during inspections to avoid having to bring it up to code. 40 counts of manslaughter would be too light a sentence.

Speculation: For all the things we constantly "kick down the road", I wonder if those aging systems had an element of "kick down the road " when they were first built? Let's make something solid enough that by the time it needs to be replaced and everyone wonders just why we did it this way, we'll be long dead!

What, the man who made the "defensible outdoor shelter" can't put together a scratching post? Of course any post is only as good as the willingness of the user to actually USE it instead of, say, the side of Mom's rocking chair. That there is the rub...

I have often thought about the resources that could be saved if we didn't insist on putting pickles or pickle spears with sandwiches at restaurants. I mean, we couldn't even give the damn things away to little starving Haji in India, he won't eat 'em, either!

Chris:
---Well I would have HOPED so...heh.
---I was speculating on that with Wifey...seems close enough. Did he fall through WITH the wheelchair or not.
THAT is the $64,000 question.
---I used to work for the TREASURY DEPT...remember?
I KNOW how the feds can WASTE money to "justify" their budgets (much of the reason I left 'em, too).
I like sleeping with a clear conscience.
---Have to agree with you THERE...both companies have hit the skids of late.
---Most definitely. That owner's main problem: Couldn't see PAST his wallet. And others paid the price for his lack of vision. Life sentence - no parole. End of subject.
---I've found that most EVERYTHING built by man has a "shelf-life". But, there are times when "planned obsolescence" figures well into the mix.
We could be caught twixt the rock and the hard place with the water systems. TOO many cans...not enough road?
---I was toying (no pun intended) with MAKING one, but I lack some of the LUMBER needed (got carpet remnants a'plenty.
Easier to just get the kids a proper one they can destroy...lol.
---C'MON, now...we NEED pickle spears...!
I'm just making the case for those who just waste food...not turn their nose up at it...LOL.
(got my share of nose-turner-uppers)

Thanks for stopping by to comment.

Stay safe (and warm) up there, brother.
