Humpday Happenings...
I know the feeling.
Welcome to another wonderful (and wet) mid-week crisis, better known as Wednesday.
No deluge to speak off, but there will be a need to take along your umbrella.
And the good news...we didn't have a single FWPD officer come to the house. I like when that happens (or doesn't).
Anyway, our Hoosierland weather for today WILL bring us some rain - scattered light showers in the morning, and then by late afternoon, more heavy rain is expected. Our high today will be about 69 degrees. Nice and comfy (for me). As far as the sunshine goes...you may be hard-pressed to see lots of it (for the time being). Sorry, that's what comes with rain clouds.
Fancy some earl-grey?
Now, what say we get that morning drink poured (hopefully into a glass or cup and NOT onto the counter-top or floor) as we see what's been going on elsewhere, hmm?
*** First out of the alley is our "WHO SAID THAT?" quote for the week:
"He that is angry without cause, shall be in danger; but he that is angry with cause, shall not be in danger: for without anger, teaching will be useless, judgments unstable, crimes unchecked, To be angry is therefore not always an evil."
In keeping with a recurring "theme" here, I figured THIS quote really hits the ten-ring. And, it's not in the Bible, so don't bother looking. It's also spoken by another one of our "newbies" - a first-timer here.
Now, WHO said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the Great Schism (not to be confused with the untempered schism)...
*** Next up, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
MAY 24 -
---It's Aviation Maintenance Technician Day
(keeping them flying, as they should be)
---It's Brothers Day
(sorry, an only child here, folks)
---It's Emergency Medical Services For Children Day
(in Fort Wayne, it seems to be a necessity when boyfriends babysit infants and toddlers)
---It's National Escargot Day
(don't care if it's a delicacy - not into EATING snails)
---It's National Scavenger Hunt Day
(this differs GREATLY from SE side scrappers, robberies, and burglaries).
*** Next up, this story caught my eye in yesterday's J-G:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20170523/stirred-up-rivers-foul-waters-taste
Ahh, so rainfall + rising temps + leaves = crappy tasting (and smelling) tap water...got it.
The rivers get "stirred up" as the story relates.
So, I wonder what our water will taste like when the riverfront gets built up and a lot more "stirring" goes on...
Moreover, is this being addressed NOW, rather than AFTER everything gets made to look like other cities? Wonder what we CAN expect?
Maybe a hint of fuel from the boats on the river?
Perhaps some (more) tossed trash will clog in the inlets and shut things down?
Who can say, right? The city will sail down river and under that bridge when they get to it.
Oh, in case you were wondering, the "rubber stamp squad" (aka City Council) was busy with this:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20170524/riverfronts-contracts-get-councils-ok
Yeah, they wholesale approved the contracts for the riverfront (and our stirred up future tap water that will no doubt still taste and smell like a boggy creek).
*** Next, We lost one of our James Bonds - Sir Roger Moore passed away at the age of 89 (from cancer). Here's his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Moore
He was an only child, too. Didn't know that.
I came to know about him from reruns of the UK series The Saint (1962-1969), and I loved that Volvo P1800 he used to drive.
And, while I thought his first outing as 007 was okay, by the time he left the role, it became more comedic than the character Ian Fleming created. Still, he did save the day well enough.
He did other films as well, and I really like him in Cannonball Run.
He also has a star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood.
He charitable works are damn near legend, and he was also a supporter of the Conservative party, even though he was a "tax exile"... living abroad (Switzerland). The UK has this nasty habit of overtaxing it's subjects (ma y times well over 50% of earnings), but we can't ALL be a democratic republic, can we?
---We also lost actress/heiress Dina Merrill, and here is her WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dina_Merrill
With Cary Grant in Operation Petticoat.
She was 93 Quite the looker in her youth. And she starred in a number of very good movies. She was married 3 times (once to the late Cliff Robertson - divorced in 1986), and was heiress to the Colgate toothpaste fortune.
Here's one story you may find interesting about her...and  Donald Trump...and the future of a certain property:
http://www.syracuse.com/celebrity-news/index.ssf/2017/05/dina_merrill_dead_actress_trump_mar-a-lago.html
Now who'da thunk THAT, hmm?
*** Next up, a bit of a sad note...
I was out in the yard yesterday after I mowed the side lawn (and survived the ordeal), when I saw something on the grass near the pussy willow trees...
It was a dead baby bunny.
It hadn't been there long, and no signs of being chewed or gnawed. In fact, the little guy looked kinda peaceful.
So, I did what any animal lover would do...gave him a proper burial. Wrapped him in a paper towel, bagged it and dug a nice deep hole and placed him in it. Then, I got a marker and mulched the area.
Now he's got his own place here, right under those pussy-willow trees.
Such a brief life, but now at rest.
*** Next, Let us take a stroll over to "Kitten Corner"...
I'm as tired as daddy...
The kids were on some of their best behavior yet...after the morning crazies wore off...LOL.
Got to spend some time with them both after mowing.
Yes, daddy looks tired.
They must have known I was beat, as they came in when I laid down for a bit. Later, they took turns in my lap.
Thankfully, they haven't BOTH tried that...don't have enough "lap" on me for the two of them.
*** Next up, lets hear about another one of our 'Tales of Midnight"...
As could be expected, he was outside waiting for his food nice and early.
"Hey, Bob...missed a spot near that tree."
And, when  it came time to mow, I had a "supervisor" who stayed within our gate and "guarded" the extension cord for me.
"I guess installing a door-flap for me is a no-go?"
He even got to spend some time in our garage. He roamed around the perimeter, and seemed to give us a seal of approval (that's good to know...heh). He left on his own, never scared of anything in there at all.
He does leave when it gets dark, and sometimes, in the afternoon. He was nowhere to be found when I discovered the dead bunny, so I don't believe he brought it there.
Gotta find a name for this little guy.
I did have a new squirrel buddy stop by, though. He got his share of peanuts.
All in all, a pretty good day for the two of us.
*** Last back to the side street...it's a welcome sign to have a good day around here once in a while.
Yesterday was
I would prefer a lot more of them, but you take what you can get.
It's sad to have a good day contingent upon the behavior of OTHERS, rather than your own behavior (as it should be).
How THEY act determines how YOU act...simple as that.
You can't ignore these mooks, because they're often raucous enough to wake the dead (most days).
Every time you awake, you wish it were different.
I know Wifey and I haven't changed anything...we're still the same people we were 20 years ago, but we are a lot more aware of those around us, and with good reason.
See, when you're in shark-infested waters (aka our "blighted" neighborhood), it pays to keep looking around you, because there are always some predators who will look to exploit ANY opportunity to have you "for lunch" (and we're not talking to a restaurant with drinks).
These idiots around here are just that - PREDATORS, and they are constantly moving about, looking for the off-chance to catch you unaware and then they will strike.
Best you can do is to be vigilant, and let them know you are watching them.
And, that does have a tendency to suck all the fun outta life.
The definition of a terrorist is someone who causes others to change their lifestyle (a situational-awareness thing).
Well those towel-headed camel-jockeys got that covered, but closer to home, the "locals" also fit that bill.
They cause us to "amend" our lifestyle, so we don't become victims. To me they're another form of domestic terrorist, plain and simple. And not to sound fatalistic, but we're ALL in someone's cross-hairs.
Our job is to make their job as hard as we can, if not impossible to accomplish.
That's how we survive...that's how we live. That is how we have a good day.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

RIP 007. I was sad, but he had a nice long life. Damn cancer anyway. I am not glad it is Wednesday. Why? Because it isn't Friday. Grr. Have a safe and happy hump day. Good for humping. Or something. That was really inappropriate.

---Not glad it's Wednesday because it's NOT Friday...ROFL.
I have GOT to remember that one.
We couldn't have EVERY day a Friday...no weekends, right?
---A good day to have my head hump a pillow and rest up from mowing yesterday.
Not a spring chicken any longer...that age crap DOES catch up to 'ya.
Thanks for rolling up to comment today.

Stay safe down there, Kiddo.

We got yer deluge HERE...

I'd like to know why rain stirs the water up so much more the last couple years than it ever did before. And why it takes a week of crappy water to get the city to admit it.

I hadn't heard about Merrill. The RM memes on FB were unavoidable, though.

Sorry about the baby... you should name the squirrel Almond Joy, because sometimes you feel like a nut...

Closer- VERY good point. Just because you don't carry a AK-47 doesn't mean you don't live your life the same way.

---Do me a favor...could you manage to hold onto it for a couple more days? J/K
It IS wonderful to NOT hear that incessant basketball being bounced, and the number of asshole boomcar drivers is greatly diminished (thank you, Lord!)
---I've been thinking on that one. We lived a 1/2 mile from the DELAWARE, and NEVER had a problem with color, smell or taste...and that was with MAJOR shipping plowing the waterway there.
Maybe a PROPER survey of our rivers (here) is long overdue. SOMETHING is causing this, right?
(and FTW has the BEST water? Hate to see, smell, or taste the WORST in Indiana).---
---Yeah, Dina was a good actress in her day. I love Operation Petticoat. Great comedy.
---Just another "notch" in my St Francis pistol grip, eh? Almond Joy...LOL. We'll ask him if and when he returns.
---I think that closer's a keeper, too.

Thanks for stopping on by (in the rain, no less) to comment.

Stay safe (and mostly dry) up there, brother.

Bob - Donnie Trump already suggested a name for your tree rat - "Nut Job."
