Humpday Happenings...
Here we are at our mid-week crisis we call Wednesday (can the weekend be far off now?).
And, it will be a tad cooler today, so if there's anything that needs getting done, best to get out there early while the air is crisp and clean.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us mostly sunny skies, a high of around 73 degrees, and some breezy conditions.
So, what say we get that morning drink and wet our whistles as we see what's been going on here and there, hmm?
*** First out of the refrigerator is our WHO SAID THAT? quote for the week:
"Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have - life itself."
I believe that this is one of those quotes that universally speaks to us all, because life is that one constant to which we are all bound...much like the time we are allotted. All we need do is listen when life speaks.
So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts...
*** Next up, it's time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JUNE 7 -
---It's National Boone Day
(as in Daniel, folks)
---It's National Chocolate Ice Cream Day
(I got this one well covered, mostly with Hershey's syrup...heh)
---It's National Running Day
(you run, I'll either walk or take the car)
---It's National VCR Day
(Still have several of them...nice paperweights, but what about those hundreds of tapes?)
*** Next up, something tells me we had some local stupid going on.
Let's see what that's all about.
---The shooter at the Beauty Academy had been rejected. Here's the story"
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20170607/police-shooter-had-been-rejected
Oh, boo-frigging-hoo. His advances were turned down by a woman...same thing has happened to damn near every other red-blooded male at some point in his life. That's the way the cookie crumbles, snowflake.
Thing is, the rest of us guys stop wasting time and move the hell ON.
Besides, by the looks of him, can you BLAME the woman?
I mean, he doesn't exactly EXUDE integrity and decency, does he? He has a history with law-enforcement, too (as could be expected).
Doesn't look like a man who would do anything but "use" a woman or otherwise mistreat her.
---Now, some people never quite learn any lessons while in jail. Here's the proof:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20170607/2-heists-same-bank-robber-10-years-apart
The Chase bank along E. Washington Blvd was robbed...by a man who had been released from jail THE DAY BEFORE after a ten-year stint for (take a wild guess) BANK ROBBERY (and the SAME branch to boot).
Do they come ANY dumber? You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone THIS moronic.
---If you track down and arrest someone, you'd BETTER have a reason. Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20170607/no-charges-filed-in-death-of-city-coach
Yeah, NO charges have been filed against this turdbucket in the death of coach Terrance Miles, and yet they are still holding this guy?
Got news for you...there IS a limitation on HOW LONG you can detain someone without charging them.
(and it's not that long, trust me)
Then, you gotta cut them loose.
That's the law.
You want that to happen? Then charge the man with something, otherwise, he's gonna be in the wind, and the coach's family will never get any closure. Simple as that.
---Sorry, no (urban) chickens roosting in Fort Wayne (for the time being). Here's that story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20170607/no-urban-chickens-council-says
N.I.M.B.Y.
City Council voted to deny the ordinance, but never fear...this will be revisited (perhaps next year).
Personally, I think the less "chicken-shit" the better, specially from downtown...lol.
*** Next, there was a very good Letter to the Editor in today's paper.
And this comes from our very own State Attorney General (Curtis Hill). Here's the link:
http://www.journalgazette.net/opinion/columns/20170607/a-better-path
Wow, he believes (and rightly so) that Indiana must continue to stand firm against the seduction of legalized marijuana.
Kudos to him and for reason winning out here.
Sure, the lure of all that "revenue" coming into a state LOOKS good on the outside, but there ARE consequences and results from following the path that other states have done, and that money that's supposed to help the states winds up being wasted in dealing with the fallout from legalized pot (and don't fool yourselves., there is plenty of fallout to go around).
Nice to see someone in the statehouse with a finger on the pulse of reality (for a change).
*** Next up, we got some nice things going on in and around the garden.
We have this REALLY small rose "bush". It's about 2 inches tall (no kidding), but it blooms every year. Why it refuses to grow, I have no idea. Must be the "local" music, I hear plants HATE (c)rap music. That would explain things.
We are also having the Asian lilies starting to bloom.
There are also the pepper plants with flowers on them. Just waiting for the tomato plants to catch up.
The peonies are all gone already.
It's not much, but it makes things more tolerable under the circumstances around the "Fortress".
*** Next, time to stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
The kids were more rambunctious yesterday. I found some charging cords for Wifey's cell phone (collection) strewn about the family room. And then they stare at you with those innocent eyes, and you can't stay angry.
They KNOW that...!
Luckily, they calm down and take to looking outside (when not napping).
*** Next up, let's see what's going on in our "Tales of Midnight"...
I was doing some trimming of various bits of foliage around the perimeter of the property, and, as could be expected, had some supervisory assistance.
He doesn't follow me around. He prefers to stay within the gates and just keep tabs on what I'm doing.
Naturally, he gets some treats for his dedication.
(and he's not dragging phone charging cords all over).
*** Last back to the stove-top...there are some people who consider life without value.
Those are the ones causing most all the trouble on our streets and in the world.
And, many of them are getting good at their game, because the rest of us have to amend our lifestyle so as not to encounter or run afoul if such cretins. Not as easy a task as it was in decades past (when we had a lot fewer idiots running around).
These days, it's all you can do to grab a slice of solace within your four walls, and enjoy life in general.
Those people who cannot or will not take a minute here and there to appreciate the gift OF life are missing out on so much.
And yet, such people have the same opportunity we have when it comes to living.
Their lack of vision defines who they are just as much as how our appreciation of life defines who WE are.
Does that make us better people? Yes, it does.
Those who value life as cheap can't see the bigger picture. They can't function in a civil society. They cannot acknowledge a higher authority that makes life possible.
Life and the time we have within it are the most precious gifts that God could bestow upon mankind.
How we USE both of them is left up to each of us. We are permitted free will.
Let's make each day one that we celebrate, cherish, and keep close to our hearts.
For (good, bad, or indifferent) we will never have another today like the one we have right now.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

I would say that I said that... maybe not in those precise words, but...

Daniel Boone was a man, was a BIIIIG man....

RBC shooter... no argument there.

Repeat robber- I've a feeling either A) he blew a mortgage with them or failed a loan exam, or B) He just wanted back in the slammer, and figured to share the sentiment with "friends".

Coach killer- yep, afraid the FWPD managed to screw the pooch somehow here. Perhaps they could contract with Rent-a-Thug and have some misplaced justice done...?

Still say they were seeing a lot of "chicken-shit" citations in the future...

Word from a former "smoker"- keep it illegal. We have enough brain dead out here without opening up the opportunity for more.

Rose bush: Perhaps you crossed it with moss...

Chris:
LOL...ahh, you remember that fess Parker show too, huh?
(with Ed Ames who played Mingo...AND had a wonderful singing career)
---I would take your agreement to mean that you also have been rejected by a woman in the past. See, we've ALL been there (that's why God invented comic books)
---No argument on EITHER point...HA!
---The FWPD could have a gut feeling that this perp WAS the guy, and they might well be correct in that call, but it's damn hard to build a case on one's "gut" (Jethro Gibbs excluded, naturally). He ALWAYS trusts HIS gut ('cause he's right).
---I've no doubt that as long as we have a law AGAINST something, a few turds will come along to BREAK them.
---Yeah, the last thing we need is a "better" (?) society like they have in AMSTERDAM...with junkies and stoners littering their streets like McD's food bags (here).
Hard to walk w/o stumbling over them.
---I'll tell 'ya...this little bugger makes BONSAI look large...!
Can't cut it...don't have a vase SMALL enough...LOL.

Hey, thanks for stopping by (and on such a nice day, too).

Stay safe (trusting YOUR gut) up there, brother.

After yesterday, I trust my gut about as far as I can throw it.

Under those circumstances, I hate driving the porcelain bus too, my friend.
