Our Hoosierland weather for today sees us enjoying mostly sunny skies, a high of around 74 degrees, and no rain in the immediate forecast. Low tonight down in the 50s (good sleeping weather).

*** And while we're at it,. let's look at ALL the fireworks calls that went out last week, but before we get to that, let's preface the list with some information ABOUT fireworks.
--The new Fort Wayne City Ordinance was signed in June, 2007. The public needs to be aware of restrictions that are in place regarding the use of fireworks, as well as the possible penalties for violators.
--Fireworks may be used only on the user's property, on the property of someone who has consented to the use of fireworks, or at a special discharge location. (Note: A special discharge location is a place designated by the State Fire Marshal for the discharge of consumer fireworks).
--Fireworks can be purchased only by adults 18 years of age or older. Children under 18 may only use fireworks when an adult is present.
--Fireworks may be used only between 5:00 p.m. two hours after dusk (approximately 11:00 p.m.) from June 29-July 3 and again from July 5-9. On the day before Memorial Day, Memorial Day,
July 4th, the day before Labor Day and Labor Day, the hours are extended from 10 a.m. until midnight.
--For New Year's Eve, fireworks may be used from 10:00 a.m. Dec. 31 until 1:00 a.m., Jan. 1.
--Penalties for violating the fireworks law can range from a Class A misdemeanor up to a Class C felony in the case of the reckless or intentional use of fireworks that results in a person's death.

Now this teacher went to the Indy school system, which is nothing more than a macrocosm of what FWCS is, relatively-speaking. And granted, this educator taught (elementary) ART, while WIiey taught (high school) English, Latin and French, but the similar dynamics apply within "the system".
With all the emphasis on the outcome and none on actual learning, the building was reduced to violent fights and constant behavior disruption, as evidenced by the 12 staff members dedicated to behavior remediation.))
Sounds just like FWCS, trust me on this one. Wifey has related the exact same issues to me often enough.
((I was force-fed Teach for America propaganda, pummeled with articles about data from pro-TFA researchers, and coerced into watching videos on the TFA YouTube channel to bring my thinking into the same place as the inexperienced teachers and administrators who demonstrated they knew nothing about how public schools work.
As a teacher for more than 30 years, with all kinds of recognition and accolades for excellence, I could see that the new normal was not about learning but more about the appearance of success.))Yep, it's all about leftist propaganda, and NEVER aimed at a true EDUCATIONAL model for the students.
It's more like "everyone gets a trophy for participation" bullshit, isn't it?
To hell with individual excellence - everyone is "equal".

Can we say the same thing of graduates today? I think not.
It was never about "instant gratification" with our generation...we had to WORK at whatever it was to achieve the end result, and to which, we became more appreciative. THAT was our gratification - that WE were able to learn, and use that knowledge wisely.
Could our educational system use a reboot? Most assuredly, but only if we somehow manage to dismantle that leftist-run juggernaut known as the Department of Education. THAT is where the cause of our problems reside, and when we all decide to get back to educating the young minds of this nation in a more PROPER manner, the better the quality of people we will produce...Just like we used to do in times past.
Maybe going back will allow us to move forward...it's well worth the attempt.

"...the appearance of success..." see the common theme between THAT and my comments about King Henry's downtown developing last time? That's the left for you. The appearance of education, the appearance of economic development, the appearance of tolerance... and not the first clue of what any of it REALLY means or is.
Anything you reduce to mere numbers becomes a soulless mockery of what it was meant to be. It has been fascinating reading Anne Applebaum's book how the Soviet system did this to EVERYTHING, thereby undermining their understanding of anything. And our left can look at the historical record and STILL not understand how such things are destined to fail. You can see the devil's hand in all of it, because it is so damn self-destructive, and that is the sum of his "creativity". Anyone who wonders what a world built by Lucifer would be like, the answer is, "It would already be a smoking ruin, populated by one fallen angel who still is looking around for someone else to blame."
