Monday Musings...
Okay, so it's still summer and it's hot out. The rest of the week will be more comfortable, after we gt some showers late tonight and into tomorrow (oh...joy).
And, after glancing through the TV guide for this week, the BEST bets for anything GOOD on, will probably be found in your DVD collection (with maybe one or two exceptions)...trust me on this one.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us partly cloudy skies, hot and humid with temps reaching to the upper 80s and like I said, some rain moving in later this evening. Could be worse.
So, what say we start the day (and week) with a nice refreshing drink, as we take a look at what else is going on in this mixed-up world, hmm?
*** First off of the kitchen floor is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
AUGUST 21 -
---it's National Brazilian Blowout Day
(don't get excited...it's NOT what you think, It's gotta do with HAIR...on your head...between your ears.)
---It's National Senior Citizen Day
(really? Do they HAVE to keep reminding me? Sheesh!)
---It's National Spumoni Day
(think Italian ice cream...sorta )
*** Next up, we just HAD to start the weekend in Ft. Wayne off with a bang (or more) with TWO shootings.
One turned out to be fatal, so our number is up to 22 homicides now (or should be).
Here's the link to the first shooting:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/36172829/shooting-on-fort-waynes-southeast-side-leaves-man-in-critical-condition
This took place  on the SE side in the 4300 block of Gaywood Drive around 2330 hrs Friday night. Police believe the man then managed to walk several blocks to Senate Ave and Southpark Drive before collapsing.
The victim was originally in serious condition, but downgraded to critical condition.
And here's the link to the second shooting:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/36172667/man-dies-following-shooting-on-fort-waynes-east-side
This took place at the East Central Towers Apts in the 900 block of E. Washington Blvd around 0115 hrs Saturday morning. That makes 3 shootings we had there in recent months.
Getting to be another Eden Green, isn't it?
Nice to know some people have so little to do that shoot another person (for whatever reason).
BTW, shooting PEOPLE is not (nor ever should become) a "hobby"...just sayin'.
You have a need to shoot...buy some range time and punch some PAPER!
*** Next, our "king" (mayor Henry) has signed a compact with other mayors to fight bias, racism and other like things in the wake of the VA statue deal. Here's the story link:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/36167526/fort-wayne-mayor-joins-mayors-nationwide-to-combat-hate-extremism-and-bigotry
Are you serious?
And if you are, will you treat bias, bigotry, and racism as the TWO-WAY STREET is really is, because there ARE lots of black racists out there as well?
I don't want to see this become a "hunt down whitey" kinda gig, because racism comes in ALL flavors, and everyone has to acknowledge that before any real work begins to deal effectively with it.
*** Next up, today is the "Great American Solar Eclipse".
(can we stand the strain?)
Look, I've got no reason to go outside with protective glass (like my welding helmet) and watch the moon blot out the sun, even if it has been 99 years since the last one.
I will (instead) be watching the entire event LIVE on the Science Channel.
NO stiff neck, no special eye wear, no sunburn, no yellow-jackets...none of that crap.
Just a cold brew, the A/C and an eclipse...sounds like a win-win to me.
*** Next, we lost someone who could honestly be called a true ICON not just in our country, but around the world.
(I heard they closed France for the day...heh)
Jerry Lewis has passed away at the age of 91. And here's his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Lewis
I won't begin to eulogize him, as many others close to him will do that much better than I ever could.
Let's just say he was someone who made this person laugh...a LOT.
He was the ORIGINAL "Nutty Professor" and his portrayal of "Buddy Love" is a classic.
Stella Stevens made a great co star, too.
One of my favorite movies that he starred in was called The Family Jewels, where he played SIX relatives (and an unrelated chauffeur) vying for the guardianship of a little girl.
Every character he played was unique in his own way and the movie was a hoot.
Then, there were the MDA telethons, where he managed to bring in well over HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars all those years to fight muscular dystrophy.
To say he will be missed would be an understatement, and I know for a fact that we shall never his likes again.
He was definitely ONE OF A KIND, and we were all the better for him and his talent.
*** Next, time to swing on by "Kitten Corner"...
The sleeping moments are the best.
The kids were pretty good all weekend. Sure, they had their "moments", but who doesn't?
(...Who's acting?...)
There's nothing wrong with acting out once in a while...as long as it doesn't become a habit and things don't get destroyed along the way, right?
*** Next up, let's check in with "Midnight and Company"...
The furry duo were right where I could expect them...on the patio most of the time, where they get fed in their own specific areas.
Midnight always has to do his "patrol" thing (thank goodness HE'S doing it...can't say I've seen the police doing likewise.
Whiskers is always at the door waiting to food, when not catching a few minutes of nap-time for herself in the garden.
*** Last back to the countertop...I often wonder how much more the world CAN get screwed up.
Then, I remember all the great comedians who have left us, and think about how their abilities would make our anger go away, to be replaced with laughter, if even for an hour at a time.
We seem to take too many trivial things too seriously these days, and the things we NEED to take seriously, we seem to let fall by the wayside, as if to say they're not even worth our time at all.
We've gotten things "bass-ackward"...plain and simple.
Permissive societies tend to do that sort of thing...and quite well, unfortunately.
Before we can again move forward, we first have to untie  this country to stave off the trouble it is in right now, and people can start by leaving our president to do his job.
The far right and the far left are damn near working together to re-invent our nation and her people, and since that is a huge deviation from what the Founders laid out for us, we'd best try our best to turn things around, before they get completely FUBAR.
We  can do it...we just have to WANT to do it. That is the real challenge.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

It's Eclipse day! On a side note, Wyoming expects to double its population today. Crazy as hell. It's Monday. First day of the final year of grad schoool. I just want my blankie and a nap. LOL

Man, that sounds like a good time to me. You can even hold the eclipse. I just like cold air and cold beer.

And yes, 100% agreed. Once upon a time ago we had brilliant comics like Jerry Lewis making us laugh and forget our anger at the world. Now all comics do is fuel the outrage. Spend their time whining and crying about Trump instead of telling jokes. It's pathetic. It's ridiculous. And most importantly, it's not funny. Right now, more than ever, I don't want a so-called comic to tell me how to think or lecture me from a soapbox, I just want them to make me laugh. Is that too much to ask?

---Happy Eclipse Day...LOL>
---WY to DOUBLE the population?
Wonder how the po-po is gonna make out with that?
---Here's wishing you do well is the last year of grad school.
---=Before that nap...I hear a nice glass of WINE works well.
(and watching our kitties pose for 'ya).

Thanks for commenting here today.

Roll safe down there, dear.

---Yeah, my age (read decades of experience) must be showing when the brew, A/C and a TV to watch the eclipse on is a GOOD deal...LOL.
---Yep...so many GREAT comics of a bygone era...who just wanted us to FORGET the troubles we had for a brief time.
The ones we have today are not even "comedic" (imho).
And yes, they DO fan the flames of (manufactured) discontent.
It would seem "we" are asking too much when it comes to putting anything in it's proper context...and that's pretty damn sad.

Hey, thanks for swinging by today to comment.
much appreciated.

Stay safe (and partially-eclipsed) out there, guys.

Well, you shot down my Brazillian hopes, beat me to senior citizenship, and described what Henry's little coalition WILL do to fight "bigotry", so what's left for me?

Well, we did get to go out and check out the eclipse- boss even brought glasses. And I got off at 2:30, so it was even better! And my scoreboard today featured suns progressing towards full eclipse, and then coming out- with one big smiley sun where my OT hour would have been...

Eric Metaxas did an op-ed on FoxNews about the eclipse proving there is a God. I thought it might be stupid, but it was excellent! Get a chance, look it up. I posted it on my FB page yesterday.

I know there were others who ENJOYED Jerry more than I- but I do APPRECIATE the legend he is. Hopefully he will have gained the peace his work for his kids deserved.

Good close, as usual.

Chris:
---Sorry to make you feel like Secretary Pierce in The Winter Soldier ("Did I step on your moment?")...lol.
I swear to you that HYDRA had NOTHING at all to do with it.
---Yeah, I took a few moments off from the LIVE coverage on TV to don my old welding helmet and view it - seems just like it did in '91...heh.
(but I did feel like Iron Man for a time)
Getting off early ALWAYS is great at work (just not so well in bed with a significant other...so I hear)
---I will roger that on the FOX article. I admit that the word GLORY came to mind...in the BIBLICAL sense, mind you.
---Jerry wasn't for everyone, that's a given, but his legacy will far outlive him, esp. for the MDA kids.
That's a good thing.
---Glad you liked the close...they often write themselves.
(which saves me lots of time to think about other stuff I don't have to...HA!)

And thanks for taking time to drop by to comment.

Stay safe (and dry tomorrow) up there, brother.
