Thoughts For Thursday...
It would appear that all this on again-off again rain has taken a holiday for the time being.
No complaints here. Be nice to get out and mow the lawn AGAIN (sighs).
And, we can expect things to be getting hotter outside, which means watering the plants.
There is just no winning with that stuff these days, is there?
Our Hoosierland weather today brings us sunny skies, temps climbing to around 84 degrees (really nice out early on, so take advantage of it), and maybe a mild breeze or two.
Hey, it's BOURBON day...ease up.
So, let's get things started with a nice refreshing drink, as we see what has been going on elsewhere...
*** First out of the corral is the answer to our WHO SAID THAT? quote:
"Quietness is the beginning of virtue. To be silent is to be beautiful. Stars do not make a noise."
This was spoken by James Stephens (9 February 1880 – 26 December 1950) who was an American poet and novelist.
And here is his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Stephens_(author)
Now, it states that he was inclined to socialism (nobody's perfect), but thre's little of that to be found in what I read about him.
Perhaps it reflects in his novels.
And, as far as "the stars being silent", well he's obviously never read up on what happens when a star goes supernova, has he?
He WAS a poet, and they tend towards the "romantic", don't they?
It's a real short read (for a change...lol), but what the heck, right?
*** Next, we proudly bring you the "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JUNE 14 -
---It's National FLAG DAY
(fly it if 'ya got it)
---It's (also) The Army Birthday
(blow out the candles, troops)
---It's National Bourbon Day
(believe me, I HAVE this one covered)
---It's National Career Nurse Assistant's Day
(wonder if they used to be called "candy-stripers"?)
---It's National New Mexico Day
(Why don't all the illegals move THERE?)
---It's National Pop Goes the Weasel Day
Yes.
(not to be confused with Weasel-Stomping Day, right Al?)
No.
It's an Adult-Swim - Robot Chicken thing.
---It's National Strawberry Shortcake Day
(sadly, I have to take a raincheck for now)
*** Next up, well how about that? AMERICA is THE most charitable nation on the planet.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/america-new-zealand-and-canada-top-list-of-world-s-most-generous-nations-a6849221.html
Well, we already have the RICHEST "poor people" in the world...that's a bloody FACT.
And to think that used to be Myanmar...(you're kidding, right?) Look it up in years past.
Now, as for our "more local" charitability...
Indiana ranked 38th most charitable state for 2017. Utah was #1 last year.
Red states had a charitable rating of 25.7% while blue states were rated at 25.2%.
Ft. Wayne didn't even make the top 50 charitable cities...WTH?
Where are the red & blue pills, or is this an Allstate ad?
And to think whenever liberals run a city, you'd THINK since they're giving away the farm to many undeserving welfare cheats, we'd be higher on that list. Guess their transparency is showing?
I know Wifey do what we can, where we can for who we can.
*** Next,  first I got pissed, then I got glad. And you probably know why:
http://www.wane.com/news/local-news/pride-flag-replaces-military-flags-at-fort-wayne-va-hospital/1234399495
Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot-!
The V/A has NO business flying the LGBTQIA (whatever) flag next to, or in place of the branch service flags of our military...that's not their call. If they want to fly THAT flag, then put up a shorter pole and do that.
That's better.
(vets should be royally PO'ed at this) But, since someone took the rainbow flag down and drove off with it...the V/A placed the service flags BACK up very soon afterward...a happy ending.
*** Next up, Our mayor (King Henry) accedes to developers, provisionally-speaking)
http://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local-news/2018/06/13/mayor-tom-henry-agrees-to-62-million-for-electric-works-but-with-a-lot-of-strings-attached-to-protect-the-public/
I thought he was dead set on capping the money for "Costaplenty Works" at $50MIL...seems he CAVED to whatever vassals the realm sent against him, as he NOW is okay with blowing $62 MIL for the GE project.
S'fun working for King Henry, isn't it?
Gonna need some heat-retardant outfits to handle all THOSE pokers you have in the fire, your highness.
If the private sector is SO damn bent on this coming to light, maybe they should front ALL the money to have it developed.
That WOULD seem a lot more fair, would it not?
((shakes head in disgust))...as the south side of the city CONTINUES to go down the shitter...
*** Next, time to swing on by our "Kitten Corner"...
A rarity...a "two-fer"  w/ Violet and Gallifrey.
The kids really enjoyed yesterday...as far as napping goes. They were out of it for a good part of the afternoon and evening (taking brief breaks to eat, mind you).
They were more content to let the world do it's own thing, and I have to admit that some days, I feel the same (only I don;t sleep for 16+ hours...heh).
Oh, to have just a small portion of their lifestyle (and half thier energy when awake).
*** Next up, let's do our daily check in with "Midnight and Company"...
The rain is stopping? How'd that happen?
Our furry twosome had a chance to dry off from the several days of scattered rain, which meant that meals were a lot more al fresco.
The ground is DRY for a change.
And both of them didn't receive any visitors, but I did find a dead bird on the back lawn (a robin)...not  nice to bring us "gifts".
We''re not caring for them so they can "reward" us...all they have to do is show up BY THEMSELVES ...no acquaintances, no "play-toys" or "takeout items" permitted.
Can I nap without having my picture taken?
I'm hoping they stay close by when it gets hotter over the next few days. The water dish is always full (with cool water).
*** Last back to the freshly mowed back yard...it amazes me that we're the ONLY people in our area with the AMERICAN FLAG out.
There was a time (and not that long ago, when damn near EVERY house had SOME level of patriotic decor on the property (even if it was in the windows).
I miss those days...a LOT. And so should you.
I suppose if I hoisted an LGBT flag, it would make the damn news as a "supporter" of the movement.
Or, if I placed the black, red and green of some African flag, it would make the "neighbors" nicer toward us...oi maybe a MEXICAN flag? Sure to get the Latino votes, right?
I don't begrudge anyone to embrace their heritage, but, for God's sake this IS America - land of the free - amber waves of grain sorta stuff, so WHY would you ignore the symbol of our nation and what it represents?
Sexy, yes...but inappropriate.
People will wear clothing with flag symbolism on it, and I'm not "down with that" too much. I prefer my nation's flag to be where it should...on a flagpole...as a FLAG.
Symbols are there NOT to be worshiped, but to serve as reminders of what this nation stands for, what our soldiers fight (and die) for, and what we, as a people have come to know. THAT is the culture we have HERE, and it's damn time more people got with that program, because if we ever wake up one morning and find that we've lost our freedoms and liberties...well, let's  hope and pray THAT never happens, okay?
Be well, make a difference to someone, and..
Stay SAFE out there, America.

"Inclined to socialism". Which means he liked the theories that would work in a perfect world, and closed his eyes to the BS that has to be tacked on to make it work in a fallen world.

*Hmm, I may have to copyright that one...

I'll leave the Bourbon to you and Jock Ewing...

Candy-stripers... ah, the good old days...

Fort Wayne, and Indiana's, charity ranking prolly has to do with the lethargy coming from being a low-disaster state, I'm guessing.

Took it down and drove off with it? BWA-HA-HA-HA!!!!!!!

I think King Tom was in a lot of heat from people across the spectrum; figures the one time he's fiscally responsible, a lot of idiots complain and he has to cave to keep his progressive chops groomed...

In your neighborhood? Think about it, putting a flag up requires WORK... need I say more?

BTW flag girl could use to go on about a 2-month "sea-food" diet, IMHO...

NOTE: You do some darn fine praying! First of all, the 2-shift cutter's complaint got back to mgmt, who wisely, and in lieu of pissing off everyone for no reason, decided to have her be 2:30 to Midnight (which is what they are already doing) and leaving me at 5 till 230- which brings me (and her) back to 9 hours; and then, someone with a cabeza looked around at all the WIP (over a hundred covers on OUR side of the building , AKA nowhere near the sewers) and declared a cutter's holiday for this Saturday. Hey, you wanna work on my bank account next? (NO, never mind- I KNOW God answers that one with OT, and you'll just negate the earlier success!)

---And that's why silent stars are ONLY found on Earth...you may copyright away. I like the first part about noise, though.
--- AH, yes...Jock. You can add in James Bond and "M" (Dame Judith Dench). They liked it, too.
---See, lots to be said for those days.
---I had not thought about that. Good point.
But, wouldn't having SO many people from SO many other countries NOT speaking English (here) help us along there, disaster-wise?
(there are some drivers and neighbors that help here way to often)
---Now you know why I was smiling also.
---And ably-groomed by many of those same progressive types, I'd wager.
---I DID have something along those lines...like sticking some JOB APPS in the screen doors...(might bot have ANY neighbors then...a win for us!)
---She does look a tad "under-nourished" at that.
(must be "built for speed", rather than comfort)
---Well, I can't take the credit the4re...but you know me...I'm about as subtle as a brick through a plate glass window when it comes to ANY form of "diplomacy"...lol.
I'm relived that your work has begun the arduous task of getting it's head screwed on straight.
Bank account? I can't seem to do anything with OURS, but maybe I can get a "two-fer"...'ya never know.

Hey, thanks for ending my day on an up note by stopping by to comment.

Stay safe (and rested) up there, brother.
