Humpday Happenings...
We certainly got the rain they promised yesterday (and several days prior to that).
I even heard some thunder preceding the rain (which came down in buckets, but for a shorter time than I thought.
Our Hoosierland weather for today is going to be more accommodating with mostly sunny skies, temps rising (again) to around 87 degrees, but a lot LESS humidity. Should make the heat a bit more bearable (for some).
Now, let's all get that refreshing drink to start our day, as we see what has been going on elsewhere...
*** First on deck is our WHO SAID THAT? quote for the week:
"Peace is not an absence of war, it is a virtue, a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice."
Peace seems to be that elusive aspect of humanity that always appears to be in shorter supply than war. Perhaps to seek peace is to be virtuous, which in and of itself, really isn't that bad a thing to pursue. So, who said that?
The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back in Amsterdam after the Portuguese Inquisition...
*** Next, time for the "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JULY 11 -
---It's All American Pet Photo Day
(got this one covered EVERY day)
---It's National 7-Eleven Day
(wonder if their Slurpees will still have straws?)
---It's National Blueberry Muffin Day
(that's my kind of breakfast)
`---It's National Cheer Up the Lonely Day
(again, this should be a DAILY affair)
---It's National Mojito Day
(must be Mexico's version of a mint julep)
---It's National Rainier Cherry Day
(that just don't look natural)
*** Next up, Another air show is coming to the Fort in 2019. Here's the story:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38611696/122nd-fighter-wing-prepares-for-upcoming-fort-wayne-airshow
Funny thing, Wifey was telling me that on FB, people were complaining about those with handicaps were a lot less able to attend the LAST show, and that they'd like to see parking CLOSER to the airport. From what is being tossed around, we just may see that.
Sure beats having to drive DOWNTOWN to grab a shuttle bus to bring me back DOWN to the airport for the show...that was one stupid-ass idea. We live 4 miles from the airport. Why should we be inconvenienced in this manner (along with lots of others)?
*** Next, what costs LOTS more than a $300 MIL GE Electric Works project in Fort Wayne? Here's the story:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38611795/developers-reveal-plans-for-2-billion-entertainment-park
Yes folks...a $2 BILLION dollar entertainment park outside of Columbus,Ohio... that's what costs more.Guess our city will want to keep up with THAT now? I certainly hope NOT.
*** Next up, more on our own airport. Here's the story:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local-news/2018/07/10/airport-allen-county-taking-steps-to-develop-223-acres-near-fort-wayne-international/
So, FWIA wants to develop MORE land near the airport for businesses.
How's about a hotel and restaurant there...like they USED to have?
Naturally, someone already has a rubber stamp (of approval) in hand...bet on that.
*** Next, Indiana has a grant that will provide FREE hand-held metal detectors, but...
http://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local-news/2018/07/10/fort-wayne-public-school-districts-unsure-if-they-will-accept-indianas-offer-of-free-hand-held-metal-detectors-to-schools/
Our own FWCS is UNSURE if they want to avial themselves of the FREE scanners...WTH is up with that?
If ANY school system in the area NEEDS them, it's FWCS...
it's not like all their school are full of angelic youth  begging to be educated, right?
*** Next up, the city wants to improve neighborhoods. here's that story:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/fort-wayne-offers-grants-for-neighborhood-improvements/1293505005
Apparently, there is grant money for this, but with a "catch"...
It's ONLY for neighborhoods whose MAJORITY of residents makes a percentage less than the median income (in other words, LOW income).
And, it's contingent upon a neighborhood association submitting a REQUEST for the improvements.
*** Next, another SE side HUD apartment complex shows it's "age". Here's the story:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38615070/complaints-from-tenants-in-astoria-apartments-are-mounting
These are the Astoria Apartments in the 2700 block of E. Paulding Rd. Yes, that is in the lower part of the ghettohood.
I wonder if some of the people were going to be evicted anyway (by management)? Nothing is mentioned about that. All we get is pretty much one side of the tale. Having lived at Willow Creek (Crack) Crossing for a time, I can assure you many problems are caused by the PEOPLE there and NOT the building.
*** Next up, Fort Wayne's PAPER straw monopoly marches on. Here's the story:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/america-s-only-paper-straw-producer-based-in-fort-wayne/1294668659
Well, it's good to know that our city can make things that really "suck"...lol.
And yes, I DO remember paper straws, even before some genius decided to "accordianize" part of the upper third of a straw to make it "flexible". That was sheer brilliance.
*** Next, time to stop by "Kitten Corner"...
She loves that torn up grocery bag.
What can you say when the cuteness meter doesn't stop at 10?
And that makes me think about what our kids have planned later on...heh.
Like leaning out a car window? What's a car?
Actually, they're not doing anything different than our previous cats did.
They're just being cats, and there is no stopping that.
*** Next up, let's check in with "Midnight and Company"...
What's that rumbling noise in the sky?
Our furry duo spent part of th day at the house. Midnight was once again MIA when lunchtime rolled around, and I barely got Whiskers fed at midday when the rains came. She went into the shelter and stayed nice and dry.
Don't ask me...I just got back here.
He came by for dinner (and treats) and wasn't wet, so wherever he was camping out, it had to have been dry there as well.
*** Last back to the cargo hold...humanity has come a very long way.
And yet, we've so very far to go.
We speak about virtue, and can;t seem to find a person who exhibits that trait easily.
We talk about civility, and more people appear to be wandering farther from that concept.
We debate issues of compassion, and still we have uncaring people all over the place.
There needs to be a major "overhaul" of the minds of many out there, because what they're thinking and believing these days is far from what is desirable in people.
Sure, we're ONLY human, and that means we WILL make mistakes, but to see so many living a mistake is not the way to better oneself, is it?
People need to start choosing better, acting better, and demanding better of themselves and then of their fellow man.
That would be a damn good first step towards promoting a better world for everyone to live in.
It sure doesn't hurt to hope for such things.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

I like that quote. War is the province of nations. Peace is the province of people.

That "pet" looks like the Taco Bell dog- "Oooh, gooey cheese!"

7-11 straws- reconverted TP cores. Bottoms up!

KC got the kids a water slide. Peanut was loving it. Lots cheaper than 2 bills.

Hey, remember when they were gonna put the reliever airpot at Casads? FWAA has a new story every five years. Five years after the Casads thing, they were gonna shut down Smith. Buncha whack jobs IMHO.

FWCS= Wendy Robinson = afraid black kids will get caught with more weapons. NAACP will cry profiling, she'll look like a monster instead of Cinderella to her BLM constituents. Not a real hard figure.

On the bright side, those grants COULD be used to patch some of those "broken windows"...

"Things that really suck": I guess you're right. All the sucky stuff I see comes from China...

Is that the same grocery bag, or does she do a one-per-serving thing?

Your mistake meme goes well with the sermon by Dennis Miller I just listened to...

Chris:
---And the quote is from another "first-timer" here.
(hope you like philosophy)
---My thought was All-AMERICAN?
It's a little chihuahua for goodness sake!
---ROFL...Best idea EVER!!!
(you need to PITCH that one around, seriously)
---Nice to know kids can STILL enjoy things that simplistic!
(good for KC)
---I wonder if their LEFT hand knows what their RIGHT hand is doing...probably not.
---D and I were saying a lot of the same thing...you forgot to add in the ACLU...heh.
---I WISH they would, but again, it's more a PEOPLE problem than the structures they trash, but the buildings always get the "fix".
(or they just build NEW ones)
---One thing that CHINA makes lots better than WE do...is ACTION FIGURES!
(and that should disturb the hell outta we "aficionados" of the Marvel universe.)
---That's the SAME bag. I don't think she'd like it much if we changed them out regularly...LOL.
---Many coaches are excellent mentors, and often grace us with such words of wisdom.
(and they also WIN A LOT).

Thanks for stopping on by and commenting.'

Stay safe (and always cool) up there, brother.
