Monday Musings...
That was one overly hot and humid weekend, but thankfully, it's now behind us.
Seems this morning isn't much better as far as humidity goes, though.
You sure can feel the change whenever you leave or return to the house.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us partly cloudy skies to start with, followed by increasing cloudiness as the day progresses.
Temps will rise to around 85 degrees, and a chance of rain stops by during the day, with a greater chance this afternoon (maybe into tonight).
So, let's get the day started off with a tall glass or a big mug os whatever suits your thirst-quenching fancy, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the steamroom is our 'What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
JULY 16 -
---It's National Corn Fritter Day
(still haven;t tried these yet)
---It's National Get Out of the Dog House Day
(better yet...don't get yourself INTO one in the first place)
---It's National personal Chef Day
(well, another day for myself around the "Fortress"...lol)
*** Next, as you all know by now, an arrest has been made in the 30-year old case concerning the murder of April Tinsley. Here's the details:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local-news/2018/07/15/grabill-man-arrested-on-murder-other-changes-in-30-year-old-april-tinsley-murder-case/
I can't say enough for the detectives who refused to let this case go.
And after all this time, I pray this gives the family of little April the closure they've been seeking for three decades. Lord knows they deserve it.
*** Next up, there was a  prayer walk over the weekend. Here's the story:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/more-than-100-gather-for-fort-wayne-church-s-prayer-walk-/1301700971
((Friday evening, the group of around 100 people met at the intersection of Hanna Street and Mckinnie Avenue, not far from the area's first homicide of 2018. After a group prayer there, everyone walked to the 1400 block of Mckinnie Avenue, where a shooting happened the night before. The group prayed again there.))
(keep the walking shoes handy)
*** Next, looks like another prayer walk might be in order, because of THIS:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20180716/1-dead-1-injured-in-masterson-shooting
This took place in the 200 block of Masterson St around 1930 hrs last evening. Police found out that two people arrived at hospital in critical and serious condition, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The man in critical condition died.
That makes the homicide total TWENTY SIX for the year (so far, according to WPTA).
The deceased was ID'ed as 29 year old Tramane Scott.
It was later found out that two more people also showed up at hospital with gunshot wounds. Police are looking to see if these two are connected with the Masterson shootings.
*** Next up, a shoeless suspect is caught after (what else?) a foot chase. Here's the lowdown:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20180714/shoeless-suspect-in-police-custody-after-foot-chase
Kennye Freeman - LOSER!
((Police learned he was wanted on a parole violation. In the abandoned Mercury Sable, detectives found a semi-automatic handgun with a loaded magazine and a round in the chamber, court documents said. The gun was stolen from a former girlfriend, she told police.))
The guy ran because he was "scared"? Well, I suppose he SHOULD be scared of the cops of he's a wanted criminal.
*** Next up, Kellogg's Honey Smacks salmonella warning  shows up in several states
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38645062/indiana-among-states-affected-by-cereal-salmonella-outbreak
Okay, so how is salmonella getting into a DRY cereal in the first place?
Something sure doesn't add up on this one. Someone forget to clean something?
And that's why I prefer the "other-brand" cereals...like MALT-O-MEAL (Golden Puffs). it's the same type of cereal at half the price (and no salmonella). To me, that spells out a win.
*** Next, a letter to the editor that makes a TON of sense.
Here's the link (it's the last letter on the page, so scroll down):
http://www.journalgazette.net/opinion/letters/20180714/letters
Thank you, Kenneth Thomas...YOU GET IT!
*** Next up, time to stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
Our kids had a good weekend, which means Wifey and I also had a good weekend.
It never ceases to amaze me how these two can be similar in some traits with our former cats, and yet be so unique with their own specific traits. While there is familiarity, there is also discovery with these two...and it never gets old.
*** Next, let's check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Hello? Anniversary? Anyone?
Since we celebrated the 1st anniversary of Whiskers stopping by (to pretty much stay), it was also a good weekend for our outdoor cats.
Midnight AND Whiskers...I like the sound of that.
She got an extra helping of special treats. I decided to add her name to this spot with Midnight.
She earned it, anyway.
Yeah, I too had an anniversary recently.
Weird thing...yesterday, we either had one cat or the other, but not BOTH for most of the day.
By dinnertime, both were here again.
But this was MY table first.
And the day before,  Whiskers was gone for most of the morning (after breakfast, mind you). That was weird (for her).
Midnight went on patrol most of yesterday morning, so we hardly had any cats for a while.
It was a good day. Thank you.
Luckily, they always find their way back to where the food, water and love awauts them.
*** Last back to the chest freezer...there is nothing wrong with a happy ending.
Whether it was in some child's fairy tale, a classic novel, or in a movie, we like to see things end well. And we always seem to resolve problems on television within the hour.
Even in life, when something works out with the job, or family and friends, we like when that occurs.
Many times, it might take longer than we prefer to reach that ending, and our patience is put to the test.
(and here we thought only doctors had "patience"...lol)
Our life's problems don't usually resolve themselves in an hour...sometimes it takes years (many years in some extreme cases).
But there is always that inkling of something we call hope to carry us on and through our difficulties.
When it's over, maybe the ending isn't as "happy" as we envisioned...but it often is the one we were intended to have.
We may not wear that wide Cheshire cat smile, but perhaps we don't need that. All we might need is a feeling of completion...a sense that whatever problem came along, has been resolved. And that leaves us able to move forward again.
Sometimes, that IS all we need.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Well, I took care of the weather on my just-released blog post, and I got nothin' on the days of the week.

April: I was delighted beyond belief when the news hit yesterday. I just look at the story and wonder what else that scum will be confessing to...

Prayer walk: It is a good thing; I just hope those involved keep it up when they get home to their prayer closets...

Yep, sounds like he has a lot to be scared of... including athlete's foot...

Salm. can get in the process of food a lot of ways... one FB commentator wonders if it could be traced back to "illegals" who have found a better way to terrorize. Now, I don't see that, but I do bet a lot can be laid at the feet of cheap manufacturers not making sure the process is as clean as it should be...

You Get It: Reminds me a lot of the story in yet another WWI book I am reading about how Tsar Nicholas tried to institute prohibition until wartime revenues went belly up without breaking the people of drinking.

BTW, finished your book on Mincemeat over the weekend. Read a lot of the hilarious parts to Laurie. That is a book that I would pass on to anyone giving me grief over, "Why DON'T you think the X conspiracy is possible?" Answer, most people are too damn dumb to keep it together.

Chris:
---Better you taking care of the weather than the OTHER way around, eh?
---I am seriously praying that the prosecutor tosses EVERY book at this creep.
(Wifey and I talked at length about this yesterday)
I would tend to believe that we will ALSO find the killer of those other two girls as well.
---At the rate we're going in this city, we might need a prayer "marathon".
(yeah, he looks SO scarfed...the lack of humanity in the eyes should creep us all out.
---I actually thought about that same "scenario". As long as food manufacturing machinery is SANITARY, the bacteria has no place to grow...simple, huh? UV light helps keep Salmonella at bay.
---Banning booze won't ever work, but fireworks? A lot easier by far, as long as you work on those stinking lobbyists.
---I figure you'd like a lot of that book.
At times, I thought this was too unbelievable to work, but the intricacies proved me wrong and fooled the axis powers...good for OUR side.

Thanks for stopping by today.
Always a pleasure.

Stay safe (and dry and cool) up there, brother.
