I do believe we have made it to another end of another week. Where does the time go?
(and why can't we ever get any of it back?)
You can expect a day much like the last several with similar conditions here in the Heartland.
Our Hoosierland for today bring us (I could just say refer to yesterday or the day before, but I won't) partly sunny skies (to start with), temps rising to about 83 degrees (again), and that same chance of rain coming later on by evening (into tonight).
So, as the day unfolds for us, let's all get that cup, glass or mug of Friday Fortitude poured and parked close by, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the sofa is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
AUGUST 10 -
---It's National Connecticut Day
(been there a couple times...nice to visit)
---It's National Lazy Day
(hell, that's EVERY day for the "locals" where we live. None of them work)
---It's National Shapewear Day
(searching for the elusive hourglass figure)
---It's National S'mores Day
(never took to these for some reason, but I like all the ingredients.)
*** Next, and since we have arrived at the end of the week, let's see what we can observe over the following 48 hours...
AUGUST 11 -
---Saturday is National Bowling Day
(after all the damn leagues took over, it ceased to be "fun" for me)
---It's National Garage Sale Day
(we're not selling ours...we still need it)
---It's National Presidential Joke Day
(well, the 44th president sure was a joke)
---It's National Raspberry Bombe Day
(don't ask for one in a school lunchroom, you'll cause a lockdown)
---It's National Sons and Daughters Day
(we ALL are sons and daughters, aren't we?)
AUGUST 12 -
---Sunday is National Julienne Fries Day
(I love these...Nuff said)
---It's National Middle Child Day
(not a concern when you're an ONLY child)
---It's National Spirit of '45 Day
(kind of self-explanatory - it's the "can do" gig)
---It's National Vinyl Record Day
(I just might have to dust a few off and spin them)
And there you have it...more than a few things to do this weekend.
Just always remember to observe responsibly.
*** Next up, we have an update on the road rage death victim)

The person who died was listed as
Well, if he was hit and that triggered a heart attack, that's STILL a homicide, folks.
BTW, that late model black Mustang convertible ia a very nice car for a senior. I can relate.
*** Next, a dead body is found in a car up north. Here's the story so far:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/man-dead-after-being-found-in-car-in-restaurant-s-lot/1356392088
FWPD responded to a "man down" call around 0730 hrs out at 1020 W. Coliseum Blvd., in the parking lot of The Athenian Family Restaurant.
Actually, it was a dead WOMAN that police found.
Looks like a 90s era Buick LeSabre to me.
And it also looks like it COULD be homicide #31 Keep your tally sheets updated..
*** Next up, we all like some "carrying around" money, but this guy REALLY likes it. Here's the story:

Beaner-loser! |
(yeah, and I just became the Pope, you mook!)
Cervantes-Cruz was stopped around 2100 hrs Wednesday near Flaugh Road after a detective pulled the car over for speeding. Cervantes-Cruz indicated that his passengers were cousins. One man had a driver's license registered in Nevada and the other man produced an ID from Mexico.
Police found 18 bundles of cash hidden in a duffle bag under some clothes, EIGHT cellphones including two flip phones or “burner phones” and a small broken statue of Santa Muerte, the patron saint of drug traffickers. Seriously?
(that's worth a "Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot" in MY book)
This is what WEAK BORDERS looks like, people.
*** Next, say it ain't so, Bob! Red River missed us again? That's TWO weeks in a row, but...
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/councilman-declares-red-river-in-breach-of-contract-/1353026442
Sure, the missed pickups are only 1% of the TOTAL number of residents served, but how come WE are now seeing missed pickups right on the heels of the complaints to city council?
So far this year, we've done pretty good, but yesterday really tested my faith in Red River.
The truck came into our alley before 1000 hrs, and since we're at the top of the alley, we SHOULD have been the FIRST bin emptied.
Well, we became the ONLY bin that was IGNORED by the crew. Why, I have NO idea.
The bin was out there waiting for them since 0600 hrs.

Back out there. Still sitting and waiting. |
*** Next up, Bill O'Reilly posted another excellent column. Here's the link:
https://www.billoreilly.com/b/Enabling-Evil/-561716585792619058.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=staff_column
I never thought equating the home-grown street gangs and violence with the Nazi SS movement, but it does make sense.
Evil is still evil, no matter what form it may take.
And the fact that most of the "SS" was made up of regular people who volunteered to commit the atrocities they did and had the support of the German people (except for the Jews, of course), also makes sense, because those in Chicago who are not trying to stop the evil, are indirectly contributing TO that evil.
It's a good read and worth your time.
*** Next, this is the best weekend to see the Perseid meteor shower (if the rain showers don't muck it up). Here's the story:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38848835/2018/08/09/nasa-best-meteor-shower-of-the-year-happening-this-weekend

Now you know WHERE to look. |
I know Wifey and I have seen them in years past, but with the weather as it has been of late, I'm not expecting skies clear enough to properly see any of the event, although it does go for several nights.
*** Next up, time to swing on by "Kitten Corner"...
The kids didn't do bad and kept their antics to a wonderfully non-destructive minimum.
They both were watching what was going on outside at times, and then spent time napping and saving that energy up for evening chasing sessions.
At least I'm not at a loss for company when watching television. He'll jump in my lap and want to be petted, while she gets on the arm of the sofa and stares at me...not in a creepy way, mind you...lol.
*** Next, let's do our last check in of the week with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
![]() |
Not raining yet, is it? |
![]() |
Nope, and that means dry food that IS dry. |
She took to the shelter while he keeps fining place near enough to be there when you go and look for them.
![]() |
I try to never miss a meal...or a nap. |
*** Last back to the comfy chair...yes, there IS evil in the world. There always has been.
And throughout recorded history, the purpose of evil has not changed one bit.
The manner in which the evil is committed HAS, which reflects man's ability to create more ways to destroy, rather than create.
Evil takes many forms, but the obvious forms are well...OBVIOUS.
Numerous factions are out there, wantonly seeking to undo that which man has found to be beneficial to life and the way we journey through it.
Unfortunately, evil has been permitted to permeate every aspect of society (and thart's just here in the USofA)
With a decline in morality, civility, and ethical behavior, our nation has allowed evil to thrive. And thrive it has.
But those of us who resist evil have to tread carefully, or we might well embrace some form of evil in the thought that we can drive away this bane to humanity.
There are times however when there needs to be a "necessary evil" to arrest the growth of the REALLY bad kind of evil, and as long as we can make the distinction and return to our base course when it comes to morality, we can keep all the bad stuff at bay and perhaps drive it back into the darkness from which it came.
We always have to be aware that evil is around us, and be vigilante to recognize it, so we can best have a plan ready to deal with it.
I like to think that Evil may win a battle now and then, but Good must always win the war.
Therein lies the lesson for the week.
Do have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Gosh, I wish I'd have had lazy day...
Shapewear... I'll take a trapezoid, please!
S'mores: ditto here...
Yeah, my back is saying no to bowling...
Well, this week's M10 certainly goes well with vinyl day...
Boy if that woman died of salmonella, the Athenian's had it, lol!
Patron saint of drug traffickers? Talk about "unclear on the concept"...
Okay, the law of common sense tells us that RR is offically incompetent. By this point, they shoud NOT be having these problems. Maybe the city should check the bids for wage estimates and shoot for someone who could hire competent workers.
I'll check BO'R on the way out...
Chris:
---Well, there is lazy, and then there is LAAAZEEE!!!
Our locals are the latter...we are the former (when the opportunity presents itself.
---LOL...trapezoid...good luck with that.
---Wow, that makes 2 of us that I know of.
---Be happy it's just your back...I got more complaints from all over my body than Red River gets for missed pickups...HA!(had to use that comparison)
---That'll be great read about some of the classic music.
---I don't think THAT was the case, but th34re is always the chance of lead poisoning.
---No kidding! Makes me wonder what OTHER evils (now) have "saints", and what's the Pope gotta say about it?
---Yeah, I:m feeling that way as well now. The longer we have them the worse it's getting...should be the OTHER way around, right?
(you'll like Bill this week)
Hey, thanks for stopping by to comment.
Have yourselves a good weekend and stay safe up there, brother.
Thanks for the reminder about the meteor shower. I forgot all about it, and I want to watch.
The situation in Chicago is getting worse, and will likely continue to worsen. One reason is a lack of condemnation for criminal behavior. At one time, everyone would have pointed to an event like these shootings and declare it a crime. Now? You'll hear reasons and excuses from everyone, including religious leaders. Other Chicago residents who are far removed from the violence will shrug it off as one criminal killing another, so what's wrong with that? And as for the women and children who got shot - stay away from gang members and you won't get shot.
Here in Columbus the local government is pushing 'affordable housing' which is so desperately needed (they claim), and which will also promote multiple income level neighborhoods, which are also somehow beneficial. Turn the page of the local bird cage liner, and the lead story is about the city government closing down an apartment building due to high crime. Most of the building was Section 8, but don't let that get in the way of good intentions.
So a thriving neighborhood in Columbus, Short North, will be ruined and the smart money will sell out and relocate. That's our government in action.
Mad Jack:
---Not a problem, partner...that's just another "service" I provide gratis...heh.
---That is perhaps the LEADING cause of the problem in the first place.
No one wants to mete out JUSTICE to those criminals. (Hands Off, They're Black Syndrome).
That's not helping ANYONE, is it?
The people shrugging it off might think otherwise when the crime comes to them (and it will, trust me)
---Yep, that "co-dependency" gig with minority communities often leads to BAD choices and the subsequent "fallout"...like being shot or killed.
---Lemme tell 'ya something about "affordable" housing...check back a couple weeks when I did a few posts about that subject (25 July, and 25-28 June).
Take a gander at them and see if I managed to nail it down (experience plus opinion), and do I believe I mentioned our apartment in Columbus, as well.
---Our cities are not making any of these problem go away...they're just spreading it around in the "hope" that a diluted criminal element is more manageable...ROFLMAO!
(I checked my birth certificate...it STILL doesn't have YESTERDAY'S date on it)
---Section 8 and HUD are creating a fast track (more like a 4-lane highway with no speed limit) to hell with their "good" intentions.
---You want good housing...you WORK for it...that's the way Dad did it (and his father before him, God rest their souls)...and it's worked out pretty well in the past. No reason to think otherwise today, right?
Such good intentions will go over like a pregnant pole-vaulter.
---Columbus ALREADY ruined the neighborhood we used to live in (near the now-razed Northland Mall - was a nice area once)...went downhill REAL fast, thanks to S8 and HUD. I feel for the homeowners in that area...a damn shame.
But, it's not like I lived through that...oh, wait, I DID.
You and I think a lot alike...and that's good for humanity but bad for big government and the welfare state...lol.
Hey, thanks for taking the time to drop by and comment.
It's much appreciated.
Have a good weekend and roll safe out there, boss.
