Thoughts For Thursday...
Why, yes...it is still raining outside, but it's not oppressively hot...just extremely humid.
I know all of you will keep the umbrellas handy and drive defensively, especially with school kids out and about (who will not be looking where they're going).
Our Hoosierland weather for today bring us cloudy skies, temps rising to about degrees, and light rain most of the day (until it decides to stop).
With that done, let's get ourselves a nice drink to start the day, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First off of the rain-drenched streets is the answer to yesterday's WHO SAID THAT? quote:
"Everyone knows what it's like to make the wrong decision for the right reasons. For me, wrong decisions are the heart of drama - a character who's always making the right decisions is boring."
This was spoken by someone we have only featured here once before, Mark Waid (b. March 21, 1962) who is an American comic book writer, known for his work on titles for DC Comics such as The Flash, Kingdom Come and Superman: Birthright, and for his work on Captain America, Fantastic Four, and Daredevil for Marvel Comics. And here is his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Waid
There is also a link to his bibliography (there), which is very extensive.
His history in comicdom has been since the 1980s, and it's interesting to see all he's had a hand in, when it comes to superheroes.
*** Next, Wifey came in while I was watching TV last night and told me that WOWO morning personality Charly Butcher had died, and it was apparently from what I (initially) guessed - it was said it was a cardiac "event". Don't ask how I knew...it just "felt" that way.
It was said that earlier in the day he was helping his wife get her classroom ready..
He's been a staple in Fort Wayne for over 30 years, first with WMEE and then with WOWO.
He was 61 years old, and I'm sure he will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
My prayers and condolences go out to his family in their time of grief.
*** Next up, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
AUGUST 16 -
---It's National Airborne Day
(jumping out of perfectly good airplanes for decades)
---It's National Roller Coaster Day
(I still like the Loch Ness Monster in Busch Gardens, VA)
---It's National Rum Day
(now that sounds inviting)
---It's National Tell A Joke Day
(so, three liberals walk into a Starbucks...)
*** Next,...first, it was plastic straws, and now...
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/us/20180815/a-rising-concern-after-straws-balloons-get-more-scrutiny
Okay, so we're going to go after balloons? What's next, condoma???
These loons just keep getting weirder and weirder with every passing day.
And along these lines, there's this excellent column from Kerry Hubartt
http://www.news-sentinel.com/opinion/2018/08/15/news-sentinel-editorial-plastic-straws-are-just-the-latest-symbol-of-a-problem-human-behavior-is-the-cause/
Yes, Kerry hit the TEN RING perfectly here.
The problem isn't the straws...it's the PEOPLE!
(isn't it always?)
And to think that 90 percent of the plastic in the world’s oceans comes from just 10 rivers, all located in Asia and Africa.
THERE'S your real culprits...go after THEM.
*** Next up, another house fire in the SE ghettohood.
Here's what's known:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/fire-damages-home-on-oliver-street/1372445477
This took place around 0530 hrs Wednesday morning in the 4500 blk of Oliver St.
No one was inside the home during the fire, and subsequently, no injuries were reported.
Curiouser and curioser with the low-income housing crowd. Another board-up.
*** Next, a noise ordinance lawsuit is settled by the city. Here's the story:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/38890965/city-backs-off-of-noise-ordinance-settles-lawsuit
((This week, the plaintiffs and the City resolved the matter, with the City agreeing to a permanent injunction on Code Section 96.04(B)(2), which bars use of electronic devices to project sound a distance greater than 50 feet while in a public place.
The settlement does not apply to other aspects of the Prohibited Noise Ordinance.))
Looks like it still applies to amplified CAR STEREOS, right?
GOOD, now get your officers out there and start CITING all the a-holes in MY neighborhood!
Be nice to get that elusive "good night's sleep" more than once every TEN years.
*** Next up, time to stop on by our "Kitten Corner"...
The kids had another day of cute, quiet and cuddly.
If there's one thing they manage to do well, it's nap.
And when one wakes up, there is always a laser pointer ready to accommodate the need to play.
Sometimes, both of them get involved, and it's an easy way to run them around (so they can nap some more)...lol.
At least mealtime is always "fun" with both of them standing on their hind legs awaiting the food.
It's a joy to have them around. Makes the house a lot less spacious (in a good way).
*** Next, let's check in with "Midnight and Company"...
"Wha? I'm back now and taking it easy."
Our furry duo were around for part of the day. As usual, we had the "morning patrol", but Midnight always comes back for dinner (even if he misses lunch once in a while).
Whiskers just likes to hang around and keep her "cuteness-quotient" up.
"He's gotta stop that snoring up there."
We even managed to get in the "treats-time"  before any of this rain started. Today will be "fun", as in feeding under the patio table.
*** Last back to the mud room...life teaches us so many things.
And if we're fortunate, we're paying attention and learning something along the way.
We meet a lot of souls throughout our lives, and we touch even more that we're not even aware of.
It's not important that we have loads of friends, or lots of stuff, or wealth and power.
What is really important is that we have tried to live as good a life as we could and were as good a person as we could possibly be.
That's not to say we're not going to suffer a fall or two along the way. We most definitely will.
Yet, it's important that we learn to get back up after those falls, and move on.
Life is full of mystery and wonder...some of which we will never be able tio comprehend.
Life is also full of common sense and truth, and those are easier to come by, if we are willing to listen, learn, and then apply that to our lives.
There will times of joy, of sadness and grief, and times that test our very beliefs in our journey through this life.
It's up to each of us to be willing to have the desire to become a better individual then we were the previous day.
We live by example and we teach the same way. To do less is to be less.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Okay, I'm back. Agree on Waid, one of the good ones. And helpful in reminding one of previous social engagements, lol!

Did you catch what Beck said on his show? Hell of a tribute for a guy who started out as just another long haired dj, isn't it? I'm glad he got to show us another side in recent years.

Well, it only took you 3 national days before you hit anything I'm interested in...

As Norma could tell you, I'm done arguing with idiots over plastic.

A very brief synopsis of the last 24 hrs: Corporate HR lady had an end-of-day meeting, throwing old boss under the bus, telling us we weren't giving new boss a chance. Everybody gets pissed, go home to muse over it. Big boss calls new boss and chews him out till 2230 hrs over why we weren't putting up herculean numbers. This morning, we all discuss the meeting and I elect myself to talk to new boss about it. Before I see him, he excoriates the entire front office at the morning meeting- with a special emphasis on the one person who has screwed up the most stuff, caused our floor lead to get fired, etc etc. She got caught in a "gee, I thought I had those orders out there..." and got reamed. New boss comes out to give us some work, I tell him I'd like to chat in his office, he says let's go. I told him on no uncertain terms that the meeting with HR lady was BS (his response: I thought that meeting got of course pretty early), that his floor people weren't the ones not giving him a chance, the front office was (His response: gave me a thumbnail on the great chewing out), and that were were hurt far worse as a company by our lead guy getting fired than old boss leaving (and added that with the crap he took, he was better off). It was a good meeting; he understands where we're coming from and said, "I got you guy's backs". Then the maintrenance guy (who has an office right near the conference room) gave everyone else the upshot of the Great Chewing and I realized how blessed I was that we were both somewhat calmer when we finally talked.

The other thing that pissed everyone off at that meeting Wednesday was that she as much as accused us of giving plant info to our old boss (who went to a competitor), which was FAR from the case. But I'm betting someone got wind of some posts that a few of us made on FB- that he responded to- and tattle taled. HE was the fricking PLANT MGR- what could we tell him that he don't already know? I told new boss she was obviously getting her info from "the wrong person". He replied, "I want to be winning, I want us all to be winning. There are some people here who don't seem to want me to win, AND I KNOW WHO THEY ARE."

Big Boss is supposed to be down here next week. Oh so glad I'll be on vacation then...

Chris:
---I think Waid is one of those who writes from the heart (rather than the wallet, imho).
---I was listening to Beck when he said that...blew me away. I had no idea and Glenn did a wonderful job of complimenting Charly's life.
---No, it took "them" 3 national days (must be the RUM)...heh.
---If all the loons took the time to find out the REAL story, they might actually learn something.
(not holding my breath, however).
---Wow, talk about a "Daniel in the Lion's Den" time.
Glad it seemed to go well, and that you got your side told.
I think that HR lady follows ALEX JONES. HA!

Betcha that vacation could not have come at a better time (thank God for that one).

And thank you for taking time to stop by and comment.

Stay safe (and hopefully dry and rested) up there, brother.
