Friday Follies...
If you're planning anything this weekend that includes something OUTDOORS, you might want to rethink your strategy (2 to 5 inches??? Flash flood watch???).
And, you might also want to include an umbrella in your travels (how 'bout hip-waders?).
We're due for a good soaking, courtesy of "hurricane" Gordon's remnants.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us mostly cloudy skies, and a chance of scattered showers (how scattered is anyone's guess).
Temps will rise to around 75 degrees, and yes, there's no getting away from the humidity.
Now, what say we get that cup, glass or mug of Friday Fortitude poured and parked close by, as we see what else has been (and will be) going on...
*** First out of the starting gate is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
SEPTEMBER 7 -
---It's National Acorn Squash Day
(go out and squash a few acorns)
---It's National Beer Lover's Day
(okay, Chris,...this one's for YOU...lol)
---It's National Food Bank Day
(feeding the hungry for years)
---It's National Grandma Moses Day
(Do people still know who she was?)
---It's National Grateful Patient Day
(well, the ones who SURVIVE are grateful)
---It's National Lazy Mom's Day
(that's ALL the "moms" down where we live...heh)
---It's National Neither Snow Nor Rain Day
(didn't we have a USPS observance already?)
---It's National New Hampshire Day
(and Indiana is where, pray tell?)
---It's National Salami Day
(for me, that can be every day. Love this stuff)
*** Next up, and since we are at week's end, let's take a look at what we can observe over the following 48 hours...
SEPTEMBER 8 -
---Saturday is National (long name) Nurses Day
(I didn't feel like typing all THAT)
---It's National Ampersand Day
(betcha schoolkids don't even KNOW what that is anymore)
SEPTEMBER 9 -
---Sunday is Care Bears Share the Care Day
(caring seems to be more a relative thing these days, sadly)
---It's National Grandparents Day
(been fresh out of them for a while now)
---It's National Hug Your Hound Day
(that's NOT a hound and that's NOT a hug)
---It's National Pet Memorial Day
(for all our friends who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge)
---It's National Teddy Bear Day
(guess we have T.R. to thank for this)
---It's National Wiener Schnitzel Day
(looks good enough to eat)
And there you go...plenty to do without having to get wet (as we're supposed to in the Heartland).
Please remember to always observe responsibly.
*** Next, police need OUR help (what, again?). Here's the story:
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/police-look-to-id-strong-arm-robbery-suspects/1420653218
This robbery took place at a laundromat located at 3817 S. Clinton St. after 2200 hrs back on Thursday, 30 August.
And we're just finding this out NOW???
A man was there cleaning the place when the robbery went down.
Anyway, they got some perp pics out pof the deal, so it's not been a total loss.
So much for holding down a job on the SOUTH side of the city...yiou get attacked just for being someplace these days.
*** Next up, justice comes to one teen's life. Here's an update:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20180907/13-year-old-charged-in-pellet-gun-shootings
As I said, it was a pellet rifle that was used (too far for a pistol to be effective), and the shots came from the apartment building with an unobstructed line-of-sight one block over
The teen is being charged with two felonies, so we shall see what takes place when the trial starts.
*** Next, it's time to say goodbye to a REAL icon. Burt Reynolds has passed away at the age of 82.
Good reason to get a Trans Am.
Here's the story:
http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2018/09/06/burt-reynolds-legendary-actor-smokey-and-bandit-fame-dead-at-82.html
And here is his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burt_Reynolds
Burt Reynolds (Dan August) w/ Norman Fell.
I first remember him playing bit parts in various westerns on TV. Later, he got his own show - Dan August, and while it only lasted 2 seasons, it was pretty good.
He really hit his stride when he got on the big screen.
And the list of memorable movies is long.
Smokey and the Bandit
Srroker Ace (with Jim Nabors)
Cannonball Run (w/ "Captain Chaos")
Films such as Smokey and the Bandit (I and II), Deliverance, Cannonball Run (hilarious), Stroker Ace, Boogie Nights, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Shamus, The longest Yard...were all good flicks.
Deliverance
As you can easily see, he was good at dramatic performances as well as comedy.
Somehow, I don't think we could have made it from the 70s into the early 80s without his particular brand of acting.
*** Next, time to stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
Sure, they're resting now...
The kids had a wonderfully manic bout yesterday...had to chide them. I looked around to see if they were chasing a fly or something...nope, none at all.
And they seem SO innocent...lol.
They just get into this mode and then you have to find a way to calm them down., Laser pointers work well (as do treats).
Yeah, we "bribe" them...because it works...LOL.
*** Next up, let's do our check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
I'm back...and all pooped out.
Our furry twosome were back into their "usual" stuff.
Midnight was on patrol and came late for lunch,.
Whiskers just loves hanging around the patio, which means she gets to spend time with me (that is a good thing, right?).
He should just stay HERE...like I do.
She comes to the beck steps after dark, and that means I give her some treats for staying around. Guess no one gets in without going through a cat...heh.
*** Last back to the finish line...life is full of changes, and we all find this out.
It's a work-in-progress for me.
Some changes are pretty good (and necessary), like the seasons, Or when we happen to find a better job, or in some cases, if we're fortunate...a career.
Many other changes are just plain bad. When a new tax surfaces, that sucks. When your neighborhood devolved into something from Dante's 10th layer of Hades...yeah, that REALLY sucks.
And when times change, it can be frustrating. because it's easy to grow comfortable in that sense of the familiar.
We lose parents, relatives, friends, co-workers, and yes, even devoted pets along the way.
Now I'm rather resistant to change (I like to look it over first), unless it's for the better, but like everyone else, I don't usually get what I desire.
I DO get what I need, and that works well enough.
I would prefer to have any change that comes long open to scrutiny, so we all can see if it is indeed in our best interest and will make our lives BETTER, but again, we never get what we want in this regard.
So, we have to take such changes as they come (and do they ever come...fast and continuously).
As we mature, WE change, and that's one of those subtle things...happens in ways we're not aware of, but yet, we do become the sum of our "parts", as it were.
Yes, change can be both good or bad, and all too often, people just follow along without question, without caring, and without a sense of what it means to value what they have, as well as what they can achieve,
Someday, they'll all figure that out...just not today.
Therein lies the lesson for the week.
Do have yourselves a good weekend.
Be well, make a difference to someone today, and as always...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Home all day with the back (again)...

8:02 PM "Shit, I haven't been on Bobby's blog yet!"

With the back thing, I have to take a deferment on the beer day...

S'okay, I didn't feel like reading all that, lol!

Hound day... You are CORRECT, sir!

Cannonball Run... live on forever!

Burt was one of the best, for sure... rarely let you down, unless you liked the high-brow stuff.

I thought you had to "chive" them... about asked if sour cream helped when I finally got it focused...

Chris:
---OUCH, with this dampness, that can't be good AT ALL!
---Your "deferment" is duly noted.
(some things you CAN put off 'til later)
---And Scrappy gest s HUG!
---Yes, it will!
---His movies ENTERTAINED...you did get your money's worth.
---No...the chives are for the omelet.
(Act 2 scene 3...LOL)

Thanks for swinging by (figuratively, mind you) to comment.

Rest up and have yourselves a good weekend.
(not sure how the Monarch Festival will turn out other than wet out at Eagle Marsh)

Stay safe up there, brother.
