Thoughts For Thursday...
The good news is that it's NOT going to be near as HOT as it has been of late.
The bad news is that we're still going to have the humidity around.
I dunno, but I think I can handle that.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings us mostly cloudy skies, temps rising to around 76 degrees, and a chance of showers tonight.
But it still feels "close" outside this morning.
Now, let's start the day with a nice refreshing drink , as we see what else is (and has been) going on...
*** First off of the breakfast table is the answer to yesterday's WHO SAID THAT? quote:
"Morality is not the doctrine of how we may make ourselves happy, but how we may make ourselves worthy of happiness."
This was spoken by someone we only featured once before, one Immanuel Kant (22 April 1724 – 12 February 1804), who was a German philosopher and is a central figure in modern philosophy.
One again, here is his WIKI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immanuel_Kant
Suffice it to say this IS a rather lengthy read, so, if you have the time, give it a go.
His view on morality as a "categorical imperative" is quite interesting.
((His argument that the existence of morality is a rational reason why God and an afterlife do and must exist), was the reason he was seen by many, at least through the end of the 19th century, as a great defender of religion in general and Christianity in particular.))
*** Next up, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
SEPTEMBER 6 -
---It's National Coffee Ice Cream Day
(yeah, I can do that)
---It's National Read a Book Day
(a whole book, or just a few chapters? War and Peace or Shogun is NOT in the offing)
*** Next, long time civil rights activist, community leader, and former teacher, Hana Stith passes away as the age of 90. Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20180905/WEB/180909968
Now, I will refrain from speaking ill about the deceased...I've done enough when she was alive in years past.
(Refer to my archive posts from 28 July 2011 and 29 March 2007)
Instead, I will just do as I always do - speak the truth.
I do admire that she opened a black history museum here, and was an educator for a long time (one of the first black teachers at FWCS).
I wouldn't exactly call her an "icon", as that term is tossed about too loosely these days.
Let's just say she was a notable individual. And, she affected the black community in many ways.
She was part of the reason that the FWPD did not reactivate the METRO SQUAD to deal with growing problems on the SE side, and why (then police chief) Rusty York took a more "hands off" approach to crime down here.
It began with the whole "driving while black" card being played, and this was led by Rev. Latham and Stith.
How'd that turn out for MY part of town, considering the continuing rise of crime that has now spread to other quadrants and with record homicide numbers? Such actions actually helped to create people like sociopath Trayvon FIncher.
*** Next up, and speaking of sociopaths, there's more information on that triple shooter. Here's that story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20180906/witnesses-say-suspect-smoked-pot-shot-them
Yep, Fincher looks like he's got a serious problem...or several.
And why "Mom" didn't take any steps prior to the shootings, is baffling.
Nice mug, loser!
She cared enough to turn him in, and yet, didn't care (enough) to find out what he was up to, or who he was hanging (and smoking weed) with (he probably didn't have a job, either), like most of them around here). There's more here than we're being told.
*** Next, councilman Jason Arp seems to stir the pot (in a good way, I think). Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/20180905/arp-takes-shots-at-republicans
Maybe it's time that council was taken to task, given all the rubber-stamping they've done over the years. I've watched enough meetings to see what goes on, and many times it becomes hard to tell where the ACTUAL "party lines" are drawn (and where common sense resides).
Once in a while, reason will rear it's head and save the day (and some money).
Perhaps shaking things up a bit is what's needed at council.
*** Next up, time to visit our "Kitten Corner"...
The kids were more on the rammy side yesterday, and took to doing an early mourning runaround.
Fortunately, they will eventually get tired (or bored) and settle back down to be the wonderful house cats we've come to know and love.
Besides, there is always the cuteness factor to consider.
*** Next, let's check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Our furry twosome were more back to the usual mode .
Midnight went on a patrol on the morning (returned for lunch), and Whiskers stayed close by ALL day into the night.
She was sitting on the back step (too dark to get any pictures) when Wifey got home and I placed some treats on the step, which Whiskers enjoyed very much.
*** Last back to the kitchen sink....humanity runs through the entire social spectrum.
At one end, you have those who suffer from terminal and/or chronic stupidity.
Case in point...Monday was Labor Day and because of that, our trash pickup is pushed back a day. to Friday, rather than the usual Thursday. Simple, right?
And yet, with media sources saying as much more than a few times, the "locals" around here STILL put the bins out a day EARLY.
This has been going on ever since the neighborhood (to a large part) "changed" it's ethnicity.
Now, at the other end of this spectrum, you have people who practice common sense and perform good deeds.
Yesterday, I mentioned about how I was going to contact Remington about the shaver gig - the cost of the foils which were not sold separately, but with the entire head for more than the cost of the shaver itself. I get a reply to my email, and to my utter astonishment, they are going to send me an entire replacement head (free) as a one time COURTESY. How cool is THAT?
The company didn't HAVE to do this...but they did. I am extremely appreciative as a result.
Once again, we see the result of making choices in life.
Some people make good choices, and thereby illicit a positive response from others, who will in kind, do likewise (pass it forward).
Some people make bad choices, and wind up making things less appealing to a neighborhood, or worse, they go and kill someone.
All of us will make some bad choices in our lives, but many of us WILL LEARN from them...others will not and will repeat the destructive process.
Like anything in life, the more you do something, the easier it becomes.
That goes for GOOD things as well as BAD ones.
So, make the best decisions you can and always for the right reasons.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Morality as a rational reason for the existance of God... thus making God the effect rather than the cause. Great way to be an atheist while telling yourself you're not, IMHO...

Read a Book... Nor Tommyknockers...

Great commentary on a life others would be scared to critique!

Mama Fincher: Another way to look like a parent while actually just taking the final step in shirking responsibility...

A lot of good companies realize it's the little things that keep customers... and it cost them little to nothing.

Chris:
---Well, I kinda looked at as God being BOTH the cause AND the effect. But that's just me.
---Yeah, King got carried away with that one.
---I said I was going to only speak truth (to reason).
---Times like this, we need Paul Harvey for "the rest of the story"...
---Life is full of all the "little things", and no matter where they can be found, they DO add up (or both sides of the fence).
People need to realize that.

Thanks for stopping by to comment.

Stay safe (and don't get wet) up there, brother.
