Humpday Happenings...
Yes friends...another day of hot and humid coming at us, but we're being told that relief IS on the way (for me, seeing and feeling is believing).
Welcome to the mid-week crisis we have come to know as Wednesday.
You know, after Tuesday, the days for the remainder of the week begin with W-T-F...something to think about...lol.
Our Hoosierland weather for today being us mostly sunny skies, temps climbing back up to around 93 degrees (and with the humidity, it WILL feel warmer than that). Clouds move in tonight with a chance of showers. Tomorrow promises to be more comfortable.
Now, let's get the ball rolling with a nice refreshing drink, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the basement is our WHO SAID THAT? quote for the week:
"Morality is not the doctrine of how we may make ourselves happy, but how we may make ourselves worthy of happiness."
That kind of sums things up pretty well. Morality does not illicit happiness in and of itself, but instead provides us with opportunity to allow ourselves a lifestyle in which happiness becomes a part.
I can live with that. So, who said that? The answer at the top of tomorrow's post.
Meanwhile, back in Königsberg, Prussia...
*** Next up, time for our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
SEPTEMBER 5 -
---It's National Cheese Pizza Day
(well, sound the trumpets and let loose the pigeons!)
*** Next, a suspect wanted in a triple shooting in FTW gets turned in...BY HIS MOM!  Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20180905/suspect-in-shooting-turned-in-by-mother
Turned in by Mommy!
Got those "no soul" eyes working, doesn't he?
Obviously not of the remorseful persuasion.
I guess we still DO have a few responsible parents down in the ghettohood.
Good for Mom...and good for our streets.
*** Next up, I've got a serious problem with technology...but all of you already know as much.
Still, there is a growing issue that I have to speak out about.
I wear those watches with rubber watch bands...like a tactical type of watch. They're comfortable, and there's no metal band to grab the arm hairs and pinch the crap out of me.
Well, whoever makes the bands (in China, naturally) has not yet figured out HOW to make a band that does not break.
The other day, another watch band just broke - catastrophic failure.
No way to repair it, and the cost of a new band would be more than the price of the watch (I get them on the cheap at eBay). I guess you do get what you pay for, and yet, the watch still works perfectly. Many times, it lasts close to 5 years before I have to swap a battery out.
Luckily, I managed to snag SEVERAL watches a couple years ago, so no problem there.
But, that's only the start of such things...
Yesterday, I was using my (almost new) electric razor .
It's a Remington PF7200 model (rechargeable) that I got at Menards over a year ago to replace the 12-year old razor that no longer holds a charge.
I noticed my face felt like it was being scratched. Sure enough, the "foil" head on the razor developed a hole in it.
That's one thing I really HATE about these razors...the thin foils tear over (too brief a) time, and render the razor useless until you replace the foil.
Thing is, the COST of THIS particular foil is MORE than the price of the damn SHAVER...!
Yes, the shaver I can get (new) for under $20, but the foil (which comes with a replacement head and cutters) goes for over $20 bucks.
How effed up is THAT?
It's cheaper to get another razor, right? That's stupid. No one sells JUST the foil (that you can easily replace in two minutes). You HAVE to buy the whole head of the damn razor. Someone is making good with this craptastic situation, and no, it's NOT the consumer.
Electric razors used to have more durable heads, and you just replaced the cutting blades (every few years).
Planned obsolescence? Well, it's certainly not user-friendly at this rate, is it?
Somehow, the word QUANDARY comes to mind. Gee, I wonder why?
*** Next, time to stop by our "Kitten Corner"...
The kids did well, but did have a spell of chasing during the late morning.
Gallifrey was being chased by Violet, who seems to relish the fact that she can instigate this particular "activity".
The afternoon seems reserved for playing the "follow Daddy around" game. That's fine.
I just have to watch where I'm going, and don't we all at times?
*** Next up, time to check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Our furry twosome BOTH spent the whole day on the patio.
Midnight didn't even feel the need to patrol. He seemed too "beat from the heat" to bother.
Whiskers just went from shady spot to shady spot...when she wasn't being otherwise cute, that is.
There's never a problem when you know where your "children" are, is there?
*** Last back to the rooftop...American used to make things that lasted.
It's also on my birth certificate.
But, that was in a much different time.
I once worked at a place that had a metal forming machine that was close to 75 years old, and that was back in the late 80s.
Today, it's hard to find something that's NOT made in CHINA. (and made to last)
America still makes things, and they are usually of higher quality, and yes, you WILL pay for that (thank the unions).
American-made automobiles? Well, I've read where a car IS American IF less than 50% of it is made outside of the USA.
Sub-assemblies and various components come from a lot of countries OTHER than ours (yes, many from China).
And, with the advent of all this "smart" technology, we can do things inside our homes (and lives) from anywhere else on the planet, should we wish to do so.
Sorry, but housekeeping, cooking and such "in absenntia" doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.
I've always been more of a "hands-on" kinda person.
That's why I cringe when I see things like my shaver fiasco...and failed watch bands.
It doesn't have to be the big things that become burdensome, it's all the little things that add up over time.
Like a thousand mosquito bites, courtesy of "progress".
And, isn't life complex enough without such "diversions" taking our attention away from what really should matter?
I think you already know the answer to that one.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Wow... I don't quite go with it, but a good quote...

"(well, sound the trumpets and let loose the pigeons!)" AMEN!

Good for Mom... and I'm not sure that isn't more of a "no-brains" look...

I think you exude a chemical in your sweat that destroys watch bands...

Shaver: And thus I just cheap out into disposable blades. Speaking of which...

Yes, we used to make things to last... but then we decided we wanted to make them fast, make them cheap, and cut worker's wages to a minimum. Case in point, our cutters are closing on 50 years old...and I sure wish they would have planned some obsolescence into them- but the replaceable blades is a crapshoot every time you order whether they will be a good batch or "They start going bad halfway down the pack" batch. And our fabric sucks, but when you only pay'em 2 french fries a day, you get suck.

Chris:
---I had to take time to REALLY read that quote before it sank in. I do find it an interesting take.
---Had a feeling YOU'D join me there...heh.
---No brains - no soul...with such people one hand washes to other (imho).
But, it makes me wonder WHY Mom wasn't aware of all his "activities" before this went down.
---Great...now, I'm sweating ACID. I smell another Ridley Scott flick in the works.
---I use the disposable blades myself, and that's why I'm curious as to WHY the shaver foil is worn out. I don't use the electric EVERY day...crazy, huh?
---See, that's the small stuff I mentioned. The MACHINE works fine (for the most part), but the BLADES are crap, and obviously NOT made in the USA.
We create a sh*t-storm of this and then ponder the failure of American Exceptionalism.
We have "help" from overseas...lol.
To me (as it must also be to you), it's a no-brainer.

Hey, thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Much appreciated.

Stay safe (the cool down IS coming tomorrow) up there, brother.
