Monday Musings - Labor Day Edition...
Welcome to the first FULL week of September, and one which kicks things off with our Labor Day holiday.
More about that at the close of the post.
Our Hoosierland weather for today brings up partly sunny skies, temps climbing to around 88 degrees, and plenty of humidity.
(break out the mosquito repellent).
There is a slight chance of rain sometime during the afternoon, so if you have anything planned, make it early. (and if not, take the umbrella).
Now, without any further ado, let's get a nice refreshing beverage parked close by, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the junk drawer is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
What say we play catch-up with what is taking place this month, hmm?
SEPTEMBER is:

Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month
National Self-Care Awareness Month

Better Breakfast Month
Classical Music Month
Fall Hat Month
Little League Month
Intergeneration Month
National Chicken Month
National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month
National Courtesy Month
National Honey Month
National Mortgage Professional Month

National Papaya Month
National Piano Month
National Potato Month
National Preparedness Month
National Rice Month
National Sewing Month
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Awareness Month
Save Your Photos Month
Self Improvement Month
Whole Grains Month
National Suicide Prevention Month
That should keep everyone  busy for a spell.
We now return you to your regualrly-scheduled day:
SEPTEMBER 3 -
---It's Labor Day
(and a well-deserved day for th working class it is)
---It's National Welsh Rarebit Day
(always wanted to try this)
---It's U.S. Bowling League Day
(they've been keeping NON-leaguers from bowling for years, too)
*** Next, more shooting going on in the Summit City.
Here's the story:
http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/police-fire/20180902/drive-by-shooting-at-church-injures-1
This took place at the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in the 1100 block of East Creighton Avenue (at Oliver) around 1815 hrs.
One woman was grazed by bullets that came through the front door
Police believe it was a drive-by shooting.
Seems you can't even have a baby shower at a church on the SE side of the city these days.
Add THAT to the list of things regular folks CAN'T DO in our part of Fort Wayne.
How's that QUALITY-OF-LIFE working out down here, MISTER MAYOR?
*** Next up, a new study that asks a question we've ALL been wondering (or should) of late...
Which state has the most psychopaths?
I know, helluva way to start the week, right? Here's the article:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/lifestyle-buzz/this-is-the-us-state-with-the-most-psychopaths/ar-BBMFvZY?ocid=spartanntp
Who knew?
Fortunately, Indiana ranked 40th (we just have lots of the more regular criminals, I guess). Pennsy ranked 17th (hey, I'm from Pannsy).
And while your curiosity is peaked, here's the 13 signs you're dealing w/ a psycho:
https://www.rd.com/health/conditions/signs-of-a-psychopath/
Does it have to be "13"? That's unlucky from the start.
And, don't most ALL of us exhibit a few of these "traits" from time to time?
*** Next, we have a good Leo Morris column on immigration:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/opinion/2018/08/31/leo-morris-column-legal-immigration-is-political-anathema/
Leo points out that we've been lied to, and he's basically correct.
((The truth is that “the system” has never been broken. There are explicit rules against entering this country improperly and sufficient penalties for those who break the rules. The only thing that has been broken is the political will to honor the rules and enforce the penalties.))
Yep, sounds right to me as well.
*** Next, it's THAT time of year once again...
The Eagle Marsh Monarch Festival 2018 will be here.
https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/monarch-festival-aims-to-educate-people-about-monarch-butterflies/1413249800
The video gives you an idea of what to expect, and it's a great time to commune with nature (and God), have some fun, and just turn off all the "stuff" we're bombarded with daily.
Not to mention, you can get a free milkweed plant to attract your own monarchs (like we did...and have).
There are exhibits, vendors, and food trucks...and of course, butterflies. You might even see an eagle.
It's THIS Sunday, noon to 5 PM at Eagle Marsh.
*** Next up, time to drop by our "Kitten Corner"...
What's Daddy doing outside?
The kids had a pretty good weekend. Plenty of cuteness around and yes, plenty of chasing one another around as well.
But there were times when a piece of old ribbon sufficed as a play toy of choice. Same goes for that glitter ball that gets knocked from room to room.
Thank goodness they tire themselves out so I can get some pictures.
*** Next, let's check in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Looks good from here.
Our furry twosome were nearby most all weekend. I mowed the front lawn yesterday, and Midnight was my supervisor (as usual).
Whiskers just prefers to guard the patio (to make sure no one takes it).
Wonderful ambiance AND service.
And yesterday's wet food is always a welcome change from the dry food...nothing but empty dishes after that.
Time to eat???
Then, it's back to napping, posing for pictures, and waiting for the next meal.
*** Last back to the factory floor...today is indeed LABOR DAY.
Here's the WIKI is you want the history of today:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_Day
(( It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws, and well-being of the country.))
No one is sure HOW the day started, but the AFL (American Federation of Labor) and the CLU (Central labor Union of new York) had something to do with it.
So, we can conclude that labor unions were a big part is getting this off the ground.
Labor Day is also the "unofficial" send of Summer, and the beginning of the collegiate football season.
Add to that all the SALES store now have (because people have the day off),
Personally, I think all the working stiffs DESERVE a day for themselves, and conversely, ALL those who choose NOT to work (and we know who they are...all my "neighbors"), for example, should be COMPELLED to work today. To me, that's only fair.
(you want government stuff...work for it, you lazy-asses)
But you know me, I'm SUCH a traditionalist...LOL.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Love the lead pic!

Definite on the bug spray. You're okay when the breeze is going, but when it stops, they come out.

Mushrooms and potatoes get a month- but no steak?

Welsh Rarebit- good stuff!

Oh, yeah, I saw the psychopath thing... the former Al Penwasser found it tremendously amusing with his birth state of Connecticutt right up there with Cali, Jersey, and NY...

I only got one on the Psycho test... unless I'm lying...

90% of all problems in the nation come from not enforcing the laws we have...

"...might even see an eagle..." or a mosquito the size of one...

Have a great day!

Chris:
---Dug that out of the groove yard of oldies (but goodies).
---I have more red marks on my arms from skeeters (they go for D's legs). Darn near look like measles...LOL.
They do need to make a bug spray that smells better, though!
---Yeah, that sure doesn't seem FAIR considering how well they ALL go together, right?
---Can't find a place that serves it nearby (can't find almost anything nearby these days...heh)
---I can truthfully say that a LOT of psychos hail from Jersey...I've DRIVEN the roads there often enough to know...LOL!
---All we NEED to do is enforce the laws we have...sounds TOO simple (but it's true), yet everyone seems SO reluctant to try it.
---Not really...mosquitoes THAT large are usually found where a lot of psychopaths live...in NEW JERSEY (it IS the state bird after all)...HA!

Thanks for rolling on by today to comment.

Have yourselves a great (hopefully bug-free) day and do stay safe up there, brother.
