Tuesday Tidbits...
Seems like the heat and humidity we had yesterday will be following us into today...like we really wanted that, hmm?
And, I hope all of you managed the Labor Day holiday in fine style.
Our Hoosierland weather for today starts out sunny, with clouds rolling in as the day progresses.
Temps are expected to rise (once again) to around the low 90s (and yes, there will be humidity as well).
There is a chance of rain (or thunderstorms) later today, do keep the umbrella within reach later on...just in case.
Now, let's get the personal hydration process going with a refreshing drink, as we see what else has been going on...
*** First out of the firepit is our "What the hell happens today, Bob?" feature:
SEPTEMBER 4 -
---It's National Another Look Unlimited Day
(seriously, what does this really mean and why should we care?)
---It's National Macadamia Nut Day
(not that bad as nuts go)
---It's National Newspaper Carrier Day
(sure wish we had one like we USED to have...miss those people)
---It's National Wildlife Day
(as long as we keep this only to the FOUR-legged wildlife, that's fine by me)
*** Next, since we have arrived at Tuesday, time to look into all the IMPORTANT calls that went out for the FWPD...which we never heard anything about...and should have.

Always have to have a few a-holes out there.
*** Next, a story that was not covered on ANY local news source, save one.(WFFT).
Helluva park job.
A vehicle was driving (SE) without it's headlights on, and guess what?
It plowed into another vehicle and flipped, taking the occupants on a "roof ride".
Police and medics were called to 4530 S. Calhoun Street just before 2130 hrs.
Car strikes truck  - car loses.
End of story.(whatta dumbass)
This could be remedied with MORE POLICE PATROLS to watch for this crap.
*** Next up, we seem to have a food "hardship" here in Indiana. Here's the story:
http://www.wpta21.com/story/39012920/report-1-in-5-indiana-residents-experience-food-hardship
((The report defines food hardship as an economic or social condition where people have limited or uncertain access to adequate food.))
And in a related story, there's this:
http://www.news-sentinel.com/news/local-news/2018/06/27/more-indiana-children-living-poverty-but-state-improves-in-education-2018-kids-count-data-book-says/
You know, if you ever drive past the (Community Harvest) food bank out along Tillman Rd, the parking lot is ALWAYS FULL.
(and they often tun low on stuff because of all the people showing up there, many in nice shiny vehicles)
Add to that other charities around the city that supplement families when it comes to foods. This is in ADDITION to ALL the gov't-sponsored programs that ALREADY dole out food (and food stamps) hand over fist. Free school breakfasts and lunches ring any bells?
Maybe, if some folks didn't come to rely SOLELY upon the fast food establishments around our city (as the overly-filled trash-bins and city streets attest to), and instead, do things the old-fashioned way...like COOKING for themselves (not just cookout crap), things would not be portrayed as badly as this study seems to let on.
The study claims hardship as an economic or social condition where people have limited or uncertain access to adequate food.
Wow, you could have fooled me. Uncertain access? Food can be had all over the place.
I would have to go with a SOCIAL CONDITION, if anything (as in people not caring aboiut the children they sire).
Then again, when you have as many kitchen fires that burn out the HUD rental cribs around here, maybe some course needs to be taught in high school when it comes to learning HOW TO USE those appliances in those houses PROPERLY...'ya think?
Good old Lao Tzu...always the voice of reason, right?
*** Next, this is something that would be kinda cool to have in Fort Wayne. Here's the link:
https://www.wane.com/news/indiana/senators-bill-would-designate-fort-wayne-for-airmail-museum/1415162690
Now THAT is a "point-of-destination" as far as the airmail service goes.
Nothing wrong with another museum here, especially one that touts accomplishments from a bygone era when aviation was in it's infancy.
*** Next up, time to stop by "Kitten Corner"...
Our kids had themselves a roller coaster of activity over the weekend.
Sharing some milk after the cereal's gone.
One hour they were chasing each other, and the nest, playing by themselves, and still later, taking time to nap or eat.
Never a dull moment with these two, and I mean that in a good way.
Many times, all either of them has to do is LOOK at you...they know how to play their "cuteness card".
*** Next, let's check back in with "Midnight and Whiskers"...
Our furry twosome were pretty predictable over the weekend.
He likes the patio table (when it's shady).
Midnight did his daily patrols (and came late for lunch), while Whiskers preferred the familiarity of our patio (and got some extra food and loving as a result).
She just likes showing off being cute.
Hell, I'll spend time with both of them outside whenever possible.
I will admit they're not near as manic as our indoor duo...lol. That's good to know.
*** Last back to the compost pile...I find it hard to believe without question the hardships in America these days.
And I speak from someone who grew up in the lower middle class. My wife had it better than I did as a child.
Our family had some of those hard times...eating soup four days a week, for example.
Not knowing if Dad's place was going to go on strike (unions suck in that regard), and other things that further complicated our lives was always a concern.
And yet, through all that (and more), there was never a time when we went hungry. I always had 3 meals a day (we used to go home for lunch in elementary school),, and although junk food treats were around back then, they were more a "luxury" than a necessity.
In many ways, we all actually did MORE with LESS.
Today, when society does (in fact) have SO much more, less is being done. How the hell can that happen?
We've got the richest "poor" people on the whole damn planet!
I believe that people in general have lost specific "traits" such as cooking and sewing. Some even refuse to find gainful employment, and that is a BIG issue with me, when I see grown men, fully capable of holding down a job...and instead, spending all day jaw-jacking with other homeys that stop by (because they don't want to work, either). Bad choice making there.
But yet, they DO have (lots of) time to father children (and even commit crimes), not that any of them could correctly be CLASSIFIED AS A FATHER in the traditional sense.
Making a baby doesn't make you a Dad,,,or a Mom, for that matter. All it shows if that "the plumbing works".
THERE is where the problem lies.
Deal with that, and correct it, and anything such a (perceived) food hardship WILL indeed vanish.
Anything less than that, will only hurt us all more. That's a given.
Be well, make a difference to someone, and...
Stay SAFE out there, America.

Well, to me, it means I should have taken a FIRST look, and since I didn't, I don't feel bound to look into it further...

Headlights off- gang initiation or just stupidity? YOU make the call...

Even if you are low on food, one visit to most neighborhood churches will get you a food bank voucher. Or go to my old church, 1st Baptist in New Haven, where a buddy of mine runs a huge food ministry. I'm not saying that there are not people who may not have access to such things, but I have to think 20% is a bit high.

Agree on the museum.

I posted this on FB, but thought I'd let you in on my trying out those last two "Plan B" beers. One was Brooklyn Lager, which was more of a hoppy pale ale to me- right on the fringe of my rather low hops threshhold. The other was Well's Banana Bread Beer, and I cannot describe it better than its name does. An interesting change of pace, if you like either of the constituents, it ain't bad.

Chris:
---Okay, that works for me, too.
---Um...how about YES?
(to both in equal amounts)
---I thought that number was wonderfully inflated as well. There are TOO many sources for food. We're not some 3rd world nation.
---That museum would go well as long as they also consider a FTW Baer Field museum (like the one at FWIA they keep hidden well enough).
---Brooklyn Lager...wonder if Steve Rogers would enjoy it? Hope it's OLD Brooklyn and not today's Brooklyn, though.
As for the banana bread beer?
Well, I like BOTH, but I can't say I'd like them TOGETHER, as I've never chased down any banana bread with a ANY sort of beer.
Might be worth a couple sips anyway.

Thanks for stopping by today to comment.

Stay safe (and keep cool) up there, brother.
